This was a good game. Love watching classic games in the California sunshine on real grass. Makes the uniforms look great.

First time I've seen this game. I grew up in L.A. but because the blackout rules I never got to see the home games on tv. In a perfect world, the Rams and Raiders would be sharing SoFi Stadium and the Chargers staying in San Diego or moving to Las Vegas instead of the Raiders.

Some bullshit that the NFL did to screw the Raiders out of LA lol

The Rams and Chargers were competing against each other to get into the LA market. None of the NFL owners cared about the Raiders. The Chargers brought the Raideds on board for their Carson stadium project to pool resources. The NFL was going to give the Chargers permission to move to Carson with the Raiders who would move to the NFC switching with Arizona or Seattle while the Rams would build a new stadium in St Louis. Stan Kronke had Jerry Jones as an ally and blew away the NFL owners with his development plans for SOFI stadium and the surrounding area with hotels and new NFL network headquarters. The NFL picked the Rams over the Chargers but still wanted to take care of them. The NFL gave the Chargers one more year to get a new stadium in San Diego or they could move in with the Rams. The Raiders could move into Levi with the Niners or move into SOFI if the Chargers stayed in SD. When the Chargers moved to LA the NFL really didn’t care about the Raiders because they could still move into Levi. The NFL also hoped that owner Mark Davis would selll controlling interest in the Raiders to new owners who would rebrand the Raiders into. More corporate friendly image Less Black Less Brown fan base. Nobody thought Mark Davis could get a stadium deal in Vegas. A lot of people had to eat crow When Davis found a new home and got to secure his family’s control of the team.

I don't know about sharing SoFi. In a perfect world, the Raiders would at least be in LA though. preferably with their own stadium. The LA Coliseum can't make money for an NFL team but I have such an aversion to indoor stadiums that I prefer it over the Las Vegas stadium.

I remember while living in the City of Orange we were trying to receive the CBS station KFMB of San Diego just to get the game on our TV since KCBS in L.A. was not allowed to show this game because it was not considered “sold out”…unfortunately we were unable to pick up the signal.

The only touchdown catch in Vernon Turner’s storied career. For sh:ts and giggles I looked into it. He had a punt return for a score in 1994.

There’s a video about a game between these two teams playing at the coliseum in 1982 and it was blacked out because the Raiders didn’t sell the game out in time but it still needed to be broadcast in La for the Rams sake

What stadium in San Diego would the Chargers play if they did move? Good thing they are in L.A. because the gutless politicians down there chose to shut down multiple proposed stadium sites throughout the city + county

Nick Bell was such a BUST … you clearly had a HOF (Marcus Allen) although out due to injury you bring in a Craig who was out of gas at this point and SF wisely moved on from … by being one dimensional… Jay could never be consistent enough to beat you with his arm … the year prior in 1990 a clearly better team that just ran into Buffalo who was destined for greatness …

Good points throughout your post. Yeah, Nick Bell even as the elementary school kid that I was back in 1991 I heard about the hype he had coming out of Iowa after the 1990 season. The second round draft pick never had a 100-yard game in three years for the Raiders, he never gained more than 367 yards in a season, and he never showed that he could be a consistent complement to Marcus from 1991 to 1992. Marcus by '92 got sick of Al Davis dogging him and underappreciating him and so he left in free agency to the rival Chiefs after the season. Allen going to the Chiefs was a big FU to Davis for what the mercurial owner put him through all those years in LA. In '91 Roger Craig wasn't the scary effective, explosive, or big-time pass catching and running threat that he was in San Francisco from 1984 to 1989. It was a trip how the Raiders still got 162 carries and 15 games out of him in '91, but that was due to Craig's in and out of season training regimen and his always being in shape more than anything. And plus, Craig got more carries than he was supposed because of as you said Allen's injury problems that year. And Jay Schroeder had a rocket for a right arm, but like fellow QB Billy Joe Tolliver----a guy former Chargers head coach Dan Henning thought was going to be one of the Chargers' saviors when he was drafted in 1989-----neither one of them were all that accurate and they had problems with control. As soon as that ball came out of their right arms you never really knew what you were going to get.

@@gmcneoplan84 Good summarization... also to spite Marcus, AD brought in an aging Eric Dickerson who showed flashes of his prime but he was an aging back. I'd like to think if Bo hadn't gotten injury would he had made it thus far and maybe committed to playing 16 games instead of 8 after the Royals were out of playoff contention. The 90s Raiders were enigmatic at best and had talented rosters but could never assemble the aura and mystique of the Raiders of old.
@gmcneoplan84
@gmcneoplan84 Год назад
@@allthingsconsidered...4894 Man, that Eric Dickerson pickup was disrespectful. I remember reading in Marcus Allen's autobiography (the pictures section) that he thought of Dickerson as another running back Davis brought in to replace him. The picture was of Allen and Dickerson talking after a 1980s era match up between the Rams and Raiders. You are so right about the 1990 Raiders, that was an enigmatic team. So talented up and down the roster that it's a trip that they got beaten by the Bills 51-3. No team with talent like the '90 Raiders had should have gotten beaten like that. I know the 1990 Bills were a great team, a real juggernaut and one of the best teams to never win a Super Bowl, but still.
@gmcneoplan84
@gmcneoplan84 Год назад
@@allthingsconsidered...4894 Man, Bo had so much hubris and ego back in his prime his ass thought he could play two sports for as long as he wanted, and God said unh uh. Bo's body was taxed by 1990, his body getting beat up in the minor leagues and the MLB, college football and then the pros. If he would have just committed himself to the Raiders, he probably would be in the Hall of Fame now.
