To get the fan off try leaving your belt on and the tranny in gear. If your tension idler is working properly it shouldn't be a problem getting it loose. One thing he doesn't mention is that it's a right hand thread.
I’m sorry but hearing your frustration made me feel so much better. I gave up after about an hour of not being able to get the damn bolts in my water pump, any tips at all? I still haven’t done it.
Honestly I don’t. It really took me about an hour to get it done. It was really hard to lined up. Sounds silly but maybe take a break and try again later with a fresh approach. Other than that I would say maybe check the bolts threads and see if they are good still. Also double check that the water pump is correct and lining up properly. I ended up starting one and then getting lucky with the others. Let me know if that helps at all.
