I'm glad the track has gotten better with age. The only other division that could ever put on a show like this there is the NASCAR Modifieds. I would personally love to see ISMA bring the supermods there. A handful of guys did a tire test there back in the 90s and their lap times were fast enough to outrun these guys.
I was here with my Father, and Grand Father. I was only nine. Who would have ever guessed I'd be able to just jump on youtube and find this on a whim. Amazing. Brings back memories I didn't even realize I still had. :D Thanks for the upload!
13 Yankees, 3 Brazilians, 2 Canucks, and 1 each from Colombia, England, France, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, & Sweden. Drivers over 40: 5; Under 30: 5. Oldest: Mario (53); Youngest: Robby Gordon (24). 12 previous starts from 1 prior NHIS IndyCar race (1992). 147 wins and 10 IndyCar Championships represented by 11 drivers. Best short oval race in IndyCar history.
I am not a Mansell fanboy, trust me, but I always give him due credit for how he went on the ovals. Took to them better & quicker than any other European
The backmarkers were just moving chicanes...that can't be much fun for a professional race driver. Stressful trying to keep out of the way all day long, and not great on the ego. Adds a very entertaining element for viewers though that's for sure. CART in it's golden era...best racing series on the planet.
I'm a diehard NASCAR fan but agree this was back when Indy car was worth watching. Why can't they just get Indy car back to the days of when all the big names drove in one series?
+No Say Hahaha.. oh.. you were serious? No, that has never happened. All the Indy drivers that has tried F1 has failed. The year we are watching, Michael Andretti tried for Mclaren and failed miserably. The difference in skill and difficulty is huge. Edit: Without having looked it up, I don't think an Indy driver even has won a race in F1.
first off it's not so much skill as it is difference in cars, the cars behave and drive so differently, and the technology. and juan pablo montoya and Jacques Villeneuve want words with you
- Mario Andretti : 1965, 1966, 1969 Indycar champion, 1969 Indy 500 winner -> 1978 F1 champion - Jacques Villeneuve : 1994 Indy 500 runner up, 1995 indycar champion and 1995 Indy 500 winner -> 1997 F1 champion. Post that we still had Indycar (or rather champ car) that graduated to F1 but none of them being champion. - Alex Zanardi: 1997 and 1998 Indycar CART champion -> 1999 Williams F1 (although he did raced F1 before) - Juan Pablo Montoya: 1999 Indycar CART champion, 2000 Indy 500 winner (although said it was IRL race using IRL chassis) -> Williams (2001-2004) and Mclaren (2005-2006) - Cristiano Da Matta: 2002 Indycar CART champion -> Toyota F1 (2003-2004) - Sebastian Bourdais: 2004-2007 Champ car (because IRL taken Indycar's trademark) champion (he was also the record holder of the most consecutive Indycar/champ car champion being 4 straight times, he was sort of like Michael Schumacher of Indycar) -> Toro Rosso/Minardi/Alpha Tauri/whatever the f*ck they called (2008-2009).
