My truck didn't have the original filter cap when I replaced the fuel filter, but Dorman makes a replacement that fits the OEM filters. I bought the Dorman cap after ordering an OEM filter without realizing the cap was attached to the WIX filter in my truck.
It's a lot easier to make a plug with a roll of tape or otherwise around a blow gun and some compressed air at the fuel tank port with the lid offen the fuel filter!
