People can say what they may, even though the Explorer wasn't the very first Sport Utility out there. But the Explorer was the one that really caught everyone's attention and put the SUV on the Map.

The GC Limited with the 318 was the do-all SUV. Solid axles f/r meant it could really get down and dirty too. Obviously the Holy Grail is the 5.9 Limited, but in '94 the Limited V8 was a beast. I LOVE the seats of the '93-'95 GC Limiteds.

The Explorer was one of the first, if not the first, SUVs that wasn't designed to go offroad. They were advertised around malls and suburbs instead of offroad like the Bronco and Bronco II. It could however go offroad, and that was pure coincidence because it was designed using the Ranger's platform.
I had a 91 sport, added 99000. At 189 the tranny failed. Had a 94 XLT. Drove it for 13 years. Replaced the tranny somewhere in there Both pushed snow & pulled trailers. My present princess is a 94 Limited. 4 years on this one. Amazing trucksters!
