I just replaced the starter in a 1994 B3000. I was a little surprised that the three starter bolts were torqued on so tight. I used a short pipe on the socket wrench to get more leverage. Other than that, the starter replacement was straightforward and I did disconnect the negative battery cable before I started.
Hey you want to tell you? Thank you! I live in Olympia Washington and this definitely helped me trying to remove my friend's starter out of her truck so thank you
So if the starter does spin but isn't engaging anything I probably have damage to my starter right? Trying to diagnose an issue I can't find online. Before failing to start, it would sometimes struggle to start and then turn over *hard* before running fine. I think my starter was misaligned, and now isn't engaging anything at all *EDIT!!!!!* You're a godsend! You mention it in the video! That ziiiiiing or whir is absolutely it thank you, you just saved me like 500 bucks
I have a 90 Ranger 4X4 with a manual transmission and a 4.0! The problem I'm having with it is that it has spun the Bendix on 4 starters in a months time. When you put the starter in and start it up it sounds as if it's metal grinding against metal. The fly wheel checks out and is good. Any idea what else could be causing this issue. I'm at my wits end with this starter. Thanks
Normally these starters don’t need shims however there is a few things that I would double check first I would make sure that the block and transmission are mated properly and that the alignment shim is between them if someone has had the trans or engine out and forgot to put this back that’s probably your problem if all that is good then I would make sure I had the correct starter some of those starters look the same but have more teeth on the bendix make sure you count teeth if all else fails I have seen people mistakingly put a flywheel on backwards which will cause the exact issue you are describing. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment👍
@@scottiegood3155 well🤔….without actually looking at the truck I’m not sure what else to check. Has the truck ever had the engine or transmission pulled out? Did it just start doing this one day or has it been doing it since you owned the truck? If it’s making the noise you are saying something is not lined up or the starter or flywheel is bad. Wished I could be of more help 🤔 Because I was told years ago and I live by this saying that assumption is the mother of all screw ups. Don’t assume anything
I need help!!!!! I have replaced my alternator, starter on 1995 Ford Ranger XLt V6 5 speed. It still want crank but is turning over? What will cause it not to crank after that? Battery is good!
You have a fuel or spark issue. Check for spark first and if it has spark I would check if it’s got fuel pressure. If no fuel then I would start with checking all fuses and the fuel pump inertia switch is usually located behind passenger kick panel they are common for tripping unintentionally and cutting off the fuel pump. Maybe this helps👍
I am stuck in the dentist parking lot! Sounds like it should start but doesn’t. Should I just replace the starter? Or should I check something else first?
I think they are 10x1.50 metric thread and they are usually about 1 1/2” long but they are a special application because the heads need to be 13mm to fit the starter housing
