Crazy how this video from 95 has better quality than some videos to this day

This camera had to be super expensive. Never seen such clear footage from the early to mid nineties. Pretty incredible

Really clear video. If it wasn't for the Caprice cop cars I would have sworn you filmed this lately.

I was almost 3 when this happened. We lived off a well, and needed to go to Athens to get water. Dad put me in his 78 ford highboy, and we went go get water. My dad says it was clear out when we left. By the time we made it to Athens, the sky had turned black. He took the back way from Athens to get back home. Also known as the post road. We made it halfway to the s curve when my father seen the tornado crossing the road about a ⅛ to a ¼ mile in front of him. I vaguely remember bits and pieces of the tornado. The thing I remember most is the storm warnings on news channel 20, and the weatherman saying find shelter immediately. I still give my dad crap for not taking the warnings seriously.

I remember watching this on the horizon from my backyard as a kid. It was eerie how slow it moved. From as far away as I was it almost looked like a cloud on the ground that wasn't moving at all. Incredible footage you have here.

This was filmed by a news crew for WCIA-TV in Champaign, Illinois (the "Trapezoid 3" logo WCIA used back then is evident on the reporter's microphone flag at 8:34), although I believe that was their Springfield bureau reporter during the mid-1990s.

Lol, even back then, the cops were ticking off certified stormchasers/news crew. Great behind the scenes footage of the storm report!! And I love how the weather lady was casually talking about the temperature while a huge tornado was on the ground. And man, the cars!! You may see some of those now, but not nearly as much. So cool so relieve my teen years through video! And I bet those burgers were indeed delicious!! In spite of all this, my condolences to all those affected by this beast.🌷

I might be wrong, but I believe this was taken on May 9th of 1995. There's a video from that day of a tornado that formed near Elkhart, which is northeast of Springfield and Cantrall.

This looks like a Betacam SP recording. Very good transfer of the tape, looks like it was transferred via component video and correctly deinterlaced to 60fps.

I was in this tornado. I was 20 years old at the time. Our house was damaged by the winds and debris. It could have been a lot worse. My mother slapped my sister who became hysterical and began screaming while we were in the shelter.

You film this with a cinematic camera? No way it was a basic home video cam lol

I live in Cantrall well I guess Athens but anyway sometimes I just love to Watch this bc it really shows what they used to be in architecture what used to be places bc I was born in the 2010’s and I don’t remember any of this like is that field across the road there’s a house.

I remember driving home from work on this road and trying to get past this tornado before it crossed the road. Scary as heck. I was 28 and stupid for not pulling over instead. But at that age it was exciting for sure. Funny how age changes you. Oh, and those cars! Damn they ugly! I don't remember how ugly they were! I was driving a Plymouth laser and a Ford Bronco 2 throughout the 90s. Damn.
