I was able to get it removed and put the new one in, but the key is stuck ... was having the same problem with the last one. Anything you might be able to recommend ? The
Hey Generation did you have to drill into the side bar to get it to turn? Because most people drill and drill inside the key hole and kill the tumblers but it cant turn because the key is locked in place from the side bar. So they have to gut out the whole ignition tumbler
My cavalier ignition seemed to be working fine when all off a sudden I go to turn off the car and the key ignition won't turn off. It's a manual so I just stalled the car out to shut it off. Eventually I removed the negative battery post cause I can't get the damn key out as the ignition will not turn back. Is this the same type of problem? Cylinder needs replacing?
How long did it take? Should I use the titanium drill bits for the whole thing, or use that last? And will drilling it out mess up anything else in there?
It took about an hour or so. I used titanium drill bits after breaking two regular drill bits on it - so I would recommend using the strongest ones you have. It shouldn't mess up anything else in the column if you are working on a Cavalier. They don't have smart keys or anything like that.
You made this look so simple. Mine unfortunately has not been. Got it all the way down, got it to turn and the pin pushes in. But the cylinder will not free up or "pop out" and now the turning mechanism fell out.
If your key turns normally, simply rotate it to the ACC position and press the pin on the back of the lock cylinder, and it pops right out. If your key doesn't turn normally, drilling it is probably the answer.
Poppycock! The right way to turn this lock is to tension the sidebar and rake until it drops. But I probably could have gotten it turn by inserting your key then vibrating with an auto-hammer. Ratta-tat-tat
Why not?.. Only work he really did was drill the cylinder out? And showed you everything he did because of this video i fixed my igintion in my cavalier a couple years ago
