When we knew when to debate and when we knew how to put it aside and be humans again. What a time. Hope someday in my lifetime we can get back to that mindset or at least close.
He called him Sir, Mr Speaker, and shook his hand constantly. Chris Farley was really proud of that moment and he enjoyed making them laugh while giving Newt the utmost respect. You don’t see comedians do that nowadays.
Good friend, Mr. “I’m right” leftist dolt, isn’t he? Probably a boomer. He proved your point and illustrated it all in two dumb comments. XD RIP Chris. You and your caliber are missed.
1995 man..time has flown...Trump and Jeffery were sleeping with teenages during those years...i think Trump was in between 1 and 2nd wives at that time...hard to believe he's in office now...well..hopefully not too much longer.
@@cs21uncc you poor baby. Still butt hurt Trump won. He has been a great president. I vote based on what people will do and have done not on the person themselves. Biden has been in office 47 years and hasn’t done one bit of good. I could list so many facts it ain’t even funny. If Biden wins we are finished. My goodness you people are so ignorant.
@@cs21uncc and what about ol slick Willie? He was best buds with Epstein. But I’m sure that’s completely fine since he is a democrat. Bill screwed an intern in the white house and yet nobody ever says a word about him. But Trump breathes wrong and he is the worst person in history. Y’all are such hypocrites.
Alec Baldwin playing Trump is hilarious though. The move would have been for Trump to join him on SNL for a skit to show it doesn't bother him. Bernie Sanders went on there with Larry David and rolled with the punches, as well as other politicians who comedians do parradies of. Not to mention, can you imagine the ratings a trump/Baldwin sketch would get?
Chris was amazing and clearly a one-of-a-kind talent. This is a historic snapshot of 1990's U.S. politics, culture and Americana. I don't think Chris knew the impact he had.
I remember growing up and believing that our political system was fairly balanced and rational. It might not have been the entire truth, but videos like this remind me that once upon a time there was a sense of civility between right and left. Even if it wasn't everywhere, and even if it was temporary, it still existed.
This is not true at all. The Gingrich era was lies and hate and division by the Right. Holy moly, you just admitted your guilt for Iraq through gross ignorance.
Back when people can laugh at themselves, people weren’t offended because it was in good fun. It wasn’t mean spirited either. Newt was a good sport for this!
@@Will-xk4nm You mean where they walked orderly in a line in the capitol building and picked up the trash? Yeah I saw some mean looking grannies waving their little American flags around, rough stuff. All after being let and told they could be in there? I can see why AOC was scared for her life across the street and in a totally different building. I wonder what it would like if leftists did the same, maybe 9 months of riots and burning federal buildings. Attacking the capitol, jeez that's crazy, we should ask Susan Rosenberg her thoughts on that matter.
@@wickedbabayaga No, I mean where people were trampled to death while attacking the police guarding the building. I mean where more than 400 people have been arrested for various crimes, including violent crimes, while attacking the capitol. I mean where they were chanting "Hang Mike Pence" one minute after Trump tweeted about it. I mean where Capitol Police were desperately radioing for backup and pleading with the Military to send in the National Guard. I mean where people tried to gouge the eyes out of police, beat them with hockey sticks wrapped in the American flag, and placed bombs and weapons in vehicles around the perimeter. I mean where the Oath Keepers and Proud Boys had been in communication with the White House and White House advisors in advance. You should maybe try reading any of the few hundred charging documents for people arrested at this event. I'm sure they brought flex-cuffs in order to lock up their bikes, right? LOLOLOLOL The fact that you have to gaslight the planet to pretend like 1/6 wasn't about stopping the peaceful transition of power says a lot.
@@Will-xk4nm All of those people are being railroaded for non-violent crimes. Even snopes which is far-left propaganda says besides Ashley Babbitt the others died of natural causes from being fatties. On the other hand, far more people were VIOLENTLY murdered during the BLM riots that raged across the country for months. BLM and antifa agitators also were caught changing into pro-trump gear and inciting violence at the capitol. The far-left terrorist group that actually BOMBED the capitol in the 1980s had their sentences commuted by Clinton, and sit on the board of BLM LOLOLOLOL. You keep saying "stopping the peaceful transitiion of power" because you are a propagandist not arguing in good faith, you know damn good and well it was about stopping a rigged election.
Imagine being such a charismatic and talented comedian, that a room mostly filled with old politicians, who your show constantly makes fun of, still know who you are when you enter the room, and all clap and cheer for you throughout and at the end of your bit.
They could laugh, as long as they were getting rich passing tax cuts that were "paid for" by putting the nation further in debt. Almost half a trillion in interest every year (and counting). Thems were the days.
Political scientists have credited Gingrich with playing a key role in undermining democratic norms in the United States and hastening political polarization and partisanship.
seriously, when he goes into character he IS that character and there's no breaking it, as soon as he's done he goes right back to the shy giggling gentleman that he is
He created a ripple-effect of laughs around the world 30+ years ago and we’re STILL laughing with Chris Farley! Omg what an Enormous, timeless gift he’s given us :)
Talk about the ability to light up a room. Chris Farley had such an honest and nervous energy, and was a genuinely sweet guy. He was a special talent, and a special person. Rest In Peace big guy.
Farley was such a great entertainer. Got a chance to meet him in LA. He was the most authentic person I've met. A real loss and as said below something so funny and innocent would never be allowed today.
The irony of it all was that newt Gingrich was the person responsible more than anyone else for creating the political climate that we've got today. He put an end to reaching across the isle and taught the republicans how to get mean. They practically were always a minority before him and couldn't consolidate their power.
When we were very close to ending racism smh. I cant believe we've let the democrats take us back to racism all because they want power. Imagine how greedy and selfish you have to be to actually try to resurrect such a disgusting thing smh. We were actually really close to being color blind.
The thing that makes me shed the most tears about Chris Farley is how much of a wonderful person he really was. He visited the elderly. Visited sick kids. Once a week he volunteered at his church feeding the homeless. And he never told anyone he did these things, not even his family. He never wanted any accolades for any of it. Everyone in his life couldn’t help but love him. It’s true what they say. The good die young.
Even the people who comment on Chris's youtube video uploaded far after his passing, seem to be poets as well. Chris changed us all into better people.
I laughed the whole way through, and then I cried. It's tragic how much we've lost in this country. We've fallen so far, and most don't even realize it.
I feel like this was one of the few times in US History where something this goofy could happen and still be taken well. The 90's were, comparably, such a laid-back decade politically compared to the decades that came before and after.
There's nothing mean-spirited about this. It was all in fun, and good spirited. If something like this were done today, it would be for the purpose of persuading the opposing side to hate, seethe, loathe and detest the person and the party that the impressionist was portraying. Not as an end in itself ---- but for the purpose of influencing/meddling with the outcome of an election. How I miss the days when entertainment was for the sole purpose of entertainment (and nothing more). Nowadays, I'm pretty cynical, pessimistic and overtly suspicious (the present state of the world has a tendency to develop such outcomes). But, against all odds, I hope for a day when the world (entertainment and otherwise) returns to a time like what we saw in this video. I was 11 or 12 at the time this video was first seen. I'm here to tell you that it was a simpler, much more joyous time. How I long for those days. Ahhh, the good ole days, right? If I'd have known that they were the good ole days--- I would've cherished them much more. But, alas: they're gone. Long gone. So often we flippantly disregard the moment (to hurry on through to the future). Then, when we get to the future, we fondly look back at the past, thus longing for what we couldn't wait... to get past! We're such a dichotomied contradiction of ourselves. God help this world. God help us all.
@@truckerdude9172 Amen. Just like you can't wake up the day after the election has passed and go to your local elections office and vote in that election, yet you can do exactly that with a mail in ballot. Go figure.
@@jmkpns its a fraud..the DUMS knew they were gonna lose so they decided to cheat and now we have all these lawsuits going on..and Biden wants to preach democracy they all need a good ass whoppin and thrown out on their heads which I guess means they would land on their asses but anyway TRUMP 2020
@Shipbuilding Expert that is by far be the worst possible thing that can happen in 2020!! Actually you know what, scratch that, that's the worst possible thing that could happen in the history of America. Joe Biden getting elected would be the downfall of this country and that's why I voted for the first time ever in my life. Trump HAS to win or we're doomed
Fantastic! Played the role convincingly - without stumbling or hesitation! EVERYONE was rolling in their seats - totally NON-PARTISAN! Wow - what a perfect achievement!!
Interesting you say that because I was jokingly wondering if Lorne Michaels fired him after this. Celebration of the first hundred days of a Republican-controlled Congress? That isn't celebrated at NBC.
Imagine being so loved that even the seat of government invites you into their chambers to do an impersonation of one of their senior members. RIP Chris.
Bush did the same thing with Dana Carvey, inviting him to the White House and other functions. Back then SNL and Late Night TV were careful to appeal to the entire country and not insult anyone's point-of-view. Now the late night shows have made a conscious decision to try to appeal to bitter Democrats who just want to see their opposition insulted, because the shows are no longer funny enough to attract an audience based on good comedy.
It is all just for optics. This is no different than poke-go-to-the-polls or whatever other cringe they come up with. You just give Farley a pass because the guy is a legend. I'll clap for Farley, but everyone else in that room can burn in hell as far as I'm concerned.
I think 49% of Congress would walk out in anger. Can you imagine a S&L comedian making a joke about Democrats? Would never happen. Farley would be let go and NBC would be cancelled.
@@SwimminWitDaFishies also after you get mad from reading my comment plz don't take it out on someone else in person. instead maybe go to a therapist so you can realize how ridiculous you are acting.
It doesn’t have anything to with emotions. It has to do with when a party drifts away from US Constitutional standards and moves toward authoritarianism. Seriously, that is what is happening since 2016. it’s all fun and games when the basis of argument is based in our American basis of government. Departure from that and we’re gonna fucking kill Nazis.
There is none of that in gingrich. He was the same evil a-hole as he is today. Crooks like him, basically the entire GQP just stopped pretending to be decent human beings at times.
It's hard to believe that there was a time when politicians didn't take themselves so seriously and not everything was "optics" and competing over who was the most offended.
@@alexioschaffan Or more like calling out the nostalgia cult who can't watch a video that pre-dates the 21st Century without lamenting the days of yore when heaven came to earth and humans and doves flew side by side in perfect harmony. Pretty sure in 1995 people were probably bitching about taxes and the ozone layer, recollecting a happier, simpler time in the 1960s when 'ozone' was the name of the local burger barn, that's since been offshored to China : ( And in the 1960s, perhaps in the middle of a violent civil rights riot, the 1930s seemed like an idyllic golden age, when everything was ridiculously cheap and no one had to work (even if they wanted to). There will always be people who think that an arbitrary date in the past was some sweet spot of human existence. Most of the time I just laugh; once in a while I call it out.

@@cityraintunes Being intelligent and perceptive enough to realize comedy is dead for obvious reasons doesn't make a person a snowflake. It's a real loss to American culture. Anyone who is a fan of comedy recognizes the atrocity that SNL currently is. It used to be rock n roll and now its propaganda.
@D Laza Where as Obama played right along with his anger translator. And then the failed dunking of a cookie into a glass of milk: "Thanks, Obama" All of them are terrible people who didn't do enough to curb corporate interests but it's extremely telling when someone can't handle any joke at any level. Punching up particularly.
Chris Farley...Class act...Funny...Humble...Real. He is greatly missed. Gets a promo in for "Tommy Boy". We need his sense of humor today. He is missed!
We had it so good back in these days. Who would have imagined we would be so backwards in such a short amount of time. I will forever miss Chris Farley.
Yes, this really gave me a new perspective of how less-divided and more United we were then. I was 15 then and didn’t know this happened until now :). Social media is truly a blessing & a curse lol
