When the Ad-Libbing begins, they're Toast..I think that Table collapse was unknown to all. Spade looked totally shocked.. Tim Conway busting up Harvey Korman was GOLD. They would tape twice, one for TV, and a backup..Conway would make little changes from one to the other..keeping the Cast Mates off guard..😜

Yeah, watching this live Chris looked so damn manic & outrageous. You could just tell by those 2 keeping their hands over their heads they were struggling to keep a straight face. I don't blame them a bit. It just made me laugh even harder than I was already laughing.

This is one those things that people say to emphasize something, but is totally over the top...lets face it, the favorite part of this skit is Chris Farley. Pure comedy gold. And you notice the whole cast aren't reading cue cards like you see most of the latest skits on SNL nowadays. They did a little thing like REHEARSAL and became familiar with it. That's what makes a good skit really special.
@lockedreams
@lockedreams 7 месяцев назад
@@spotter121877 They're actually supposed to read from the cue cards, it's just that not everybody is good at not making it obvious. What's on them can change at any point up to the last minute. This is how John Mulaney, when he was a writer, famously kept getting Bill Hader to break when he played Stefan-he'd add new, outrageous things to them just before the segment that Hader had never seen before, and he found it impossible not to react to what Mulaney came up with haha. Rehearsal only starts on Thursdays, so they wo Rehearsal only starts on Thursdays, so they only have a few days to learn the lines, and they can change at any point before the sketch, basically. They've said that they've even had times where up until Weekend Update started, they were changing things. So the cue cards are essential to the show. :) There's a cool video on the channel about the cue cards, actually! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3djg59JUrmc.html

Quick Story: When I was maybe 10 or 11, I went with my siblings and mom to McDonalds for lunch (in Toronto). We were sitting on the outside patio and a stretch limo pulls up. Who gets out but our man Chris Farley and a few body guards. Well everyone went absolutely mental and my friend's mom who was there asked him to do "Down by the River". As cringe-worthy as that seems now, Chris didn't hesitate and proceeded to perform the skit at a random ass McDonalds in Toronto. The entire place erupted in laughter and happy tears. I love how David Spade and Christina Applegate struggled to hold in their laughter for the entirety of the skit. Farley and Hartman were absolute legends in the business. RIP to you both, you are dearly missed.

Saw an interview with Christina Applegate, where she said she had to cover her face from the audience and kept saying to herself, "Don't look at him, Don't look at him, Don't look at him!" She said she about lost it a couple of times and had to muster up everything just to say her lines.

I was lucky enough to have seen this in person. I was 17, my dad got tickets from a girl he was with at the time. We were seated directly in front of this set when it aired, on the 2nd tier, 1st row. Happy I was able to see two of the greatest perform live. Midnight Oil wasn't bad either, they sounded good live.
