22 years old Nissan. Lots of backups , I like it. Haha the background was awesome , don't have a clue how you do it or figure out the distributor signals. LOL Thanks Thomas.
Here I am again. I was just headed to bed and your videos popped up. I have to see what's going on. I enjoyed the video. I bought an old Vantage after hearing Eric say it was the best meter he's ever had.
thanks for the video with the vantage pro thomas. as i was saying yesterday on the live chat i just picked one up cheap. its my first scope so im still trying to get the hang of everything it can do. anyways thanks again buddy. love the vids
Download the file so you can play with it on the vantage... as well as on the ShopStream Connect software! Yesterday was fun... looking forward to the next chat!
I usually flip the clamp... but I think I was in the driver seat at that time already and decided to invert. Not sure why, because in the past (when in the same situation, I swap the leads instead of walking back to the clamp.
After the car would stall, when you try and restart it would it try to start but sometimes sound like it was binding up or spin the engine slightly backwards? I'm chasing a really bizarre issue on my 98... It starts fine when cold. Once warmed up it will eventually stall. I can usually coax it into restarting but only after several tries. It sounds like it actually back spins the engine sometimes ... Right before I acquired the vehicle someone put a super China distributor on it (from Amazon) so I'm suspicious of it but the car was free so I don't want to throw parts at it. No codes are showing up.
Incorrect / jumping ignition timing can cause the engine to kick-back when cranking... if things are ok when cold, but get bad when hot, then it could be the distributor that is acting-up / starting to fail.
I think that's exactly what was happening. The distributor on it is some chinesium special that the previous owner installed (well, I installed it for him). I actually opened it up last night to investigate. The plastic cover over the optical wheel looked out of place. I pushed it back, put everything back together and now its running completely fine. ...But it's also 20 degrees cooler outside than it was previously, so that could also be affecting my result. :/
sucks that the fancy snapon scanner wouldn't connect. ive had a scanner that wouldn't connect to most cars but then worked whenever it wanted to...I still cant see myself getting rid of the junk lol
Disappointing how much problems we've had with our Verus Pro. Just got it back from Snap On with a new mother board and HD. Great tool when it's working but very pricey and way too many problems, not to mention a slow XP OS.
I had a Verus Pro and I was happy with it... traded up for the Verus Edge because of the SSD. Also no problems so far. As with anything Microsoft, it's hit & miss.
1995, same age as me! And perhaps the modis ultra didn't communicate because the car is OBD1 not 2 since its pre 1996? Just popped into my head but I can't remember if you've used the modis on an OBD1 vehicle before..
It probably would have worked if I had tried the Nissan diagnostic port rather than the OBD port. I'll give it a go next time the car is here. It can communicate with my 89 BMW... guess I was in a hurry and didn't want to swap cords on the modis.
Thomas EXOVCDS ahh.. makes sense. I wasn't aware it worked with your BMW. Sounds like a cool car btw.. awesome that you still have your 89. I'd love to see more pictures or video of it someday!
The Dealer Repair info website or one of the Shop Repair websites (Mitchell or Alldata I think both have a consumer subscription option). Audi is $35US for 24hr access erwin.audiusa.com/erwin/showHome.do
I can not guarantee that I looke-up the correct wiring diagram(s). The first one is a generic Mitchell diagram, first page is for cabrio (ignore). fkh161.ca/Audi/A4/AudiA4Alarm001.pdf fkh161.ca/Audi/A4/AudiA4Alarm002.pdf
Oh, I sold that a long time ago. Back then, all I wanted to do was race and wasn't as interested in working on them as I am now that I'm too old to race them! lol
