Thanks for the video! Well done. One thing to note...the reason that the German engineers designed this with holes in those flaps, covered by open cell foam, is that it was designed to allow air to mix (heater core hot air mixing with fresh air). With all the solutions I've seen, everybody seems to be sealing these holes completely, which defeats the purpose of mixing the air. I plan to do this, but leave a couple of small holes to allow air to blend a little. The main thing is to get rid of all the old foam. Thanks again!
That’s really interesting. I’d love to know how it turns out. Sounds like it could work if you can figure out a way to leave a hole that doesn’t create a whistling noise. Let us know if you complete that and what you find out! 😎
Not as bad as you think. Just take it slow and you’ll be “A Ok”. Glad the video was helpful. If you need the link to the plugs I used, it’s in one of the comments below.
I bought a few types to make sure I had the right ones. For some reason they are all labeled as VW plugs but they are the correct ones. I've never been able to fins any labeled for Porsche. Here is one that I used that fit the best: www.ebay.com/itm/256107690533 Here is the other one I bought in case you want to see which fits best for you: www.amazon.com/PIT66-1998-2012-Beetle-Mk4-Transporters/dp/B0D1QLMVZG/ref=sr_1_2?crid=37057EBYQ7PGU&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.e15O3Vkapcnvos7LDMlFWwt5Y0lRfjm06X65X47hKvg.bnTGkLSDw1oQP6Ox-sax1mXatc9t3V1fAD-fqGALaEA&dib_tag=se&keywords=PIT66%2BBlend%2BDoor%2BFoam%2BFix&qid=1714190482&sprefix=pit66%2Bblend%2Bdoor%2Bfoam%2Bfix%2Caps%2C134&sr=8-2&th=1
They do have a lip but they are a few millimeters smaller than the blend door holes to be able snap into place. They are technically made for VW cars so I assume it’s just a slightly smaller blend door hole in the VW blend doors. Also good to glue them in since the air is flowing from the backside which could pop them out vs flowing in the direction that would push against the front side of the plugs effectively keeping them in. We just wanted to make sure we weren’t having to worry about any of them popping out.
