If you are seeing condensation under the trunk lid where your coolant tank is located or finding evidence of coolant leak in that area, try this $6.25 quick and easy repair BEFORE you think about installing a new coolant tank! I will walk you through the repair step by step. *This was an early repair made to my car, so my buddy Kurt once again did most of the work. At this point my flashlight holding skills are getting pretty good!

So glad it was helpful! It’s one of the most affordable repairs I’ve done to date and the problem has not returned so it definitely worked

I thought you solved another problem for me, and I wish you had but I was wrong. I had a very slow coolant leak and could not figure out where it was coming from. From a top off at oil change to the time I would need to add more coolant was around 200 miles. My water pump was good, my radiators were good. I had not obvious leak anywhere. I saw your video and checked this and it looked good but I did smell a slight coolant odor in my trunk. I had read somewhere about faulty caps on the reservoir and I looked to see if I had one of the old caps which was prone to failure, and I did. I ordered a new cap from Pelican Parts and received an unused older cap still new in packaging that says it was "Manufactured in West Germany," and all the words on it are in German (really cool). It was also clearly a lot more robust than the cheap original. I put this on and immediately my reservoir got the big leak once it pressurized. I can only assume the old caps' defect allowed the pressure to remain low enough to not cause the leaky reservoir to completely fail. My next project is to replace the reservoir!

Oh wow! That’s quite the detective work. Bummer that it ended in having to replace the tank. I think it’s something we will all have to do as it’s a known failure spot after a number of years. It’s one repair I will likely pay to have done though. I’ve seen it’s a bit rough to do it yourself. 😕
