In this video we take a look at Cesar's 1997 Toyota 4Runner. His rig is setup for the trails & then some! Cesar has owned this rig for a little over 5 years.
This was filmed on November 3rd, 2019, at Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area in Pismo, California.

I am a gen 3 junkie! I have a 2000 limited I bought new 20 years ago and it's never let me down... except that time I drove it 4200 miles to Alaska in the middle of winter and slid off the road in an ice storm. Can't blame the 4runner on my stupidity though.

@@TimmyTheToolman Only 120k miles and I plan to get many more. The only thing that ever failed was the AC compressor. She's never left me stranded!

Nice rig. I just spent 10k for a 2000 4runner limited 2 months ago. It has 190k mileage on it. It has 17" wheels and 35" tires, roof rack, ARB front bumper and suspension already upgraded. Planning to do a 3000 miles round trip in 4 months 😃

What makes you say that? It sounds pretty decked out with the lift, tires, and parts. These things in the west coast are not cheap. You guys must be from the northeast where rusted 4Runners are cheap.

I will be getting my 2000 limited all stock this week or early next week. It has been in the family since new. Just over 100k on a 20 year old vehicle. I just hope o can find aftermarket support as easy as a jeep or new vehicle lol. I should as these are still loved like the 70,80,90 vehicles for offroad.

Ron Swanson easy maintenance. The lower ball joints aren’t bad, they are just an item that should be replaced ever so often just like other components on the rig.

did you do a sock relocation for the rear? they seem pointed inwards more than normal but im not sure what stock shock locations look like on that year 4runner

Included in the the BTF Long Travel Kit. They are different from the UCA's you can buy separately from BTF.

I'd like to know about the 15" travel in the front. that's usually the range they market 2wd kits for. I cant cycle more than 13" or it will break stock tundra axles when rock crawling. I think I'm actually strapped to ~12" now since OEM Tundra CVs are tough to find for me these days. Tripod inner joint or CV? Fun looking rig!

BTF fab makes it an inch longer and an Inch foward. He says the limiting factor is the coilovers. The CV axles can handle more travel easily.

They are custom build axles from btf fab. He send them out too be built too his specs.

@@1989xS13xDK i checked the btf site since i was interested in buying some parts but it says he makes just the shaft in between the cv joints. the cv joints are OEM toyota. bring a spare OEM cv axle(whole thing) with you. if you pop a cv joint on the trail you can slide in the btf shaft with just some snap ring pliers if i remember right. I havnt had one apart in a awhile since i stopped modifying my tundra axles. the "mod" to allow flex just made the inner cv weaker :(

What about the comms system? Is that ginormous antenna for a CB radio? If so which one? Which antenna? Oh and you need some hydraulic lifts for that hood. :)

So trail gear says they do not make a front bumper for a 3rd gen 4runner. Did you use a different bumper from another year/model and just make it work?

Will these lower control arms help with alignment issues?

What alignment issues? Even with a front lift up to 3 inches, a good alignment tech should be able to bring it within spec.

@@TimmyTheToolman its pulling to the right I have spc camber bolts and polyurethane control arm bushings I've gone to several places and they say I'm maxed out. When I go offroad i have to get it aligned each time

We love our 3rd Gens too and we agree they are not fuel economical. A turbo diesel would be nice. Here in Commiefornia, I just paid $4.55 / gallon for regular unleaded.

Yeah I was literally gonna buy some fenders online and then a local guy that buys & parts out Tacomas/third gens messaged me at 11pm if I wanted some fenders. I was there 20 min later 😂. Yeah outgear solutions does some good work!

Nice, a 8,000lb 4runner with 180 hp max. I own a 2002. Slow as hell already, I can only imagine what this one is like. Lets put 8k into a 4runner to make it go slower. Should have gone Tundra.

Hey John, different strokes for different folks. These aren't sports cars. 4runners and Tundras are two totally different animals. With some of the places I've taken my 3rd Gen, a big Tundra would not have made it through. We do lots of mods to 4runners on this channel. If that's not your thing, don't watch them. Concentrate on the videos we make for general maintenance and repair instead. Safe to say, blasting some guy for choosing to do Sic Mods on his 3rd Gen isn't appreciated. Sean and I are all for modding these rigs. Just like your parents maybe told you at one point when you were a kid, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."
