In Part 4, we finally get the engine and "new" transmission mated up and dropped back into the van. Do you guys think this old motor will run? Better yet... do ya think that $100 mystery transmission works????

This is a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan SE that we bought for $200 in November 2023 after it was abandoned on a farm for 4+ years.
I have no idea the condition of the van other than it doesn't run. Don't even know how many miles its got on it.
Lets see if we can get this van running and back on the road again where it belongs.

Nice work. Put some Marvel Mystery oil or a little bit of ATF in the crankcase for that valve train. That`s cheap and very reliable transportation. My 2003 Chrysler T and C has 225 k and runs great. Good Luck.

@GreyRockOne thank ya!! yeah it can be a pain sometimes. A guy needs a concrete pad and it would be a whole lot easier. Glad it runs.

I figured it would run good ! Kinda sucks about the crank wobble.. but whatever.. I’m sure the transmission shifts perfectly ! I’d be pulling the seats and carpet and power washing the carpet and seats use a carpet cleaner machine.. I think Home Depot has rentals , but a wet/ dry shop vac and mist them with the garden hose and fabric cleaner and a bush goes a long way .

@462ANIMAL thanks I was sure hoping! When I heard thr gallop on first start my heart dropped. Must have had a valve not seating all the way till it fired up. I've got a cheap carpet extractor I use sometimes. It's about shot though. I want to buy one that's got a heated sprayer at some point. I love using those drill brushes on real bad carpet. Like you said, helps a ton.

@@MNMoparMinivan That uneven compression sound on initial cranking was most likely due to collapsed hydraulic lifters.. That happens to a lot of different vehicles if they sit for months..

I had that same thing happen with my dipstick... its a pita but I see you got it out ok. I just drilled a tiny hole and used a wood screw to get my old one out.

I wish there was a way I could message you but U pull East Bethel just got a mint 99 PG8 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport with a mint passenger sliding door and full painted trim and rear spoiler. I took pictures of it on the tow truck waiting outside the fence

@@MNMoparMinivan I think I emailed some of the pictures I could get without the tow truck driver seeing me and I just happened to be there getting a heated seat/ rear wiper switch for my 4th gen T&C since the lights went out and I already fixed it with new bulbs a couple years ago so I figured I’d go back to stock

That engine sounds like it runs fantastic, you got one hell of a deal on the van, I bet it cleans up good. I wonder if the screwy wheel bearing had anything to do with the diff pin's unapproved vacation time it took? You should put the 🍆 emoji on the back window 😂

@98-SR5 So I was starting to think either the bearing assisted in the demise of the diff or the diff blew the bearing apart. No way to know really. And I totally haven't thought about putting an eggplant on the window...
