We disassembled a couple of the shop's machines during the last winter break; goal being to get a jump on some preventative maintenance. We had a lot of leaking way covers in this machine so it was completely stripped down to access the saddle and base castings, in order to empty the built-up tramp oil and coolant. One of our techs took this video after the internals were cleaned. The machine is running through a sample program of rapids, XZ arcs, and toolchanges. The rapid motions are 710-IPM whereas the feed motions are 300-IPM.
This is a relatively old Haas, at least two Haas generations out, so the comparisons between it and a newer VF are pretty noticeable. The component layout is similar, but the casting structure is very different and the components have been noticeably redesigned over the years. Maybe someday we'll perform a similar strip-down of a newer mill and can make a comparison video!...
