The gold tinted glass was an option. It is supposed to defrost faster then the regular glass.

The most important things to look for when buying one is the intake manifold and the rear air suspension. If the car is sagging in the back, or the pump is always on, the rear air suspension is going bad. Make sure there is no coolant or wetness around the intake manifold. Other than that, these cars are tanks. Good luck on buying one!

@@WhiskersTheFish Good to know and thank you for your reply. I am very tall and sick of making myself fit into things. I believe the town car won;t give me any issues with that.

@@danstone8783 I can assure you that you should be just fine in the town car. I'm 5"10 and I drive with the seat maxed out in the "up" position with several inches still above my head. There is an incredible amount of leg room and head room.

Awesome video. I love the 97 but I dunno how practical this car is as a daily. Let me know what car issues you’ve had with it so far curious to know what problems this year gives.

Overall these cars are tanks. However, being that a 1997 is 27 years old, expect to do some minor repairs to things that have aged. The really only main thing that will cost a lot is replacing the intake manifold. The original ones had a plastic crossover for the thermostat housing and they always crack and leak coolant. Mine started to and I had to replace it. Look out for rust on these cars and front end components like the balljoints and shocks. Other than that I've just done little things here and there. They really are reliable cars, very practical too. Huge trunk and super safe. 97 was the last year of the "good" town cars as stated by many people. The 1998-2002 model years were by far the worst in reliability. Look for either a 1995-1997 or a 2003+ town car for maximum reliability.

@@WhiskersTheFish thanks so much for all that information really learned a lot I appreciate it! I’ll subscribe to your channel got some good videos. I hope you make more Lincoln town car videos. If you don’t mind me asking where did you find such a mint condition town car. And yeah I’ll definitely look out for the intake manifold and other things you mentioned 🙏💯

You think it’s worth getting the intake manifold changed out soon as I get a car or just wait till it goes bad. It’s gonna go bad anyway might as well get it done asap I feel.

@@Mrnormalsense I found my town car on facebook marketplace, It was a 1 owner car that lived in the midwest all it's life, garaged as well from what I can tell. I feel like this is one of the best platforms to find them because often there are estate sales and family members selling their grandpa's town car and stuff like that for super low prices. As for the intakes, try to look for what design it is, it may have already been replaced. The original ones are plastic all around. Look at the thermostat housing and alternator bracket areas. The original ones are completely plastic, a newer, replaced one has an aluminum thermostat housing and an aluminum alternator crossover bracket. They like to crack at about 120,000 miles but mine somehow lasted until 167,000 miles and I live in Illinois so that's even worse for it. If you find a clean town car with less than 100,000 miles I would probably wait to replace it, but if it has 120,000 to 150,000 miles and it's original I would probably just replace it instead of waiting for it to spew coolant everywhere :). Also, if you do end up buying a town car, you should change the oil at some point. I'm noting this because online and at auto parts stores they will list 5w-20 oil for the town cars. Originally these cars called for 5w-30 oil. The reason the parts stores say this is because of an emissions recall in the early 2000s, by using the thinner 5w-20 oil the town cars will get better mpg slightly. I highly recommend getting what the car originally wanted which was 5w-30. The thinner 5w-20 oil is not good for the engines, especially high mileage ones, and its more likely to cause blow-by. If you have a very high mileage town car I would even recommend going with a thicker than factory oil like 10w-40. I would never go thinner though.
