Production figures mentioned seems to be wrong. I think the figure I gave was closer to US models. Worldwide, there seems to be over 5000+ of these made. Still a pretty rare car.
Amazing quality from such a small channel!!! I own a shit rusty w202 lol, bought it really cheap and its been bulletproof and reliable since. Only problem is the rust, but it is to be expected from such an old car.
A friend took me for a ride in his. I was acatulyl shocked at how utterly brutal the acceleration was and the braking. I think he may have modified it a bit but overall it was impressive.
This is the most underrated, underrated car. I remember seeing a picture of one in tokyo. You can get them for good prices and from what I've heard they are fairly good as a modification platform if you know what your doing. Something cool about seeing euro cars in japan though.
Solid review! I could see you've got your own enthusiastic style coupled with some nods to other car review channels like ThatDudeInBlue and Doug Demuro. Just some constructive criticism, I do think this could have used just a tad more rehearsal to really get a professional feeling. Really work on refining the dialogue/script to match the camera work (which was very good btw). I drive a '95 c220, so this car is the dream. Keep up the good work!
There’s something other worldly about an old Benz. I’ve owned 3 W202 Kompressors. Got my dads for my 16th b day. Didn’t even have a permit I just sat in it and cleaned it for a year when I finally did. I realized this is the car I want to drive forever. I’m gonna be 30 July 18 and like they say the third ones a charm. I say it’s real love.
I am a fan of how the W202 and I am reminded of the W202 reviewed by Jeremy Clarkson in 1993 (though that was the base model manual with rolling windows lol). The W202 looks very classic and timeless. I want to buy a used one but I fear the maintenance costs of owning one here in Manila. I might have a better economical chance of owning a W124 if parts are going to be my concern. Great video!
Having owned 2 W124s, I can say that they’re not really as economical to own as what the internet says they are and the W202 is somewhere in the same ballpark figure as it, I assume. I own a W140 now, which is basically a more complicated huge W202, and it’s not that bad anyways.
Easy to maintain unless you get last of series 94/95 eco engine loom, throttle body and all wires going into the diagnostic port and fuse box primarily in the first E Classed badged ones E220, E320, they are getting old now and most require complete suspension rebuilds and the cats are working at there limits by now, I have a 94 E320 Coupe great car easy to work on but lots needs doing on them now even low km ones as plastics and seals deteriorate with age, most 5 speeds mated to the M104 engines have either been rebuilt or need it, great cars well built but expensive to maintain sometimes and btw never use aftermarket brand URO parts on a Benz unless you want to replace the part again in six months.
@@KyleLiongCars Ah damn! I’m sorry if it’s weird I ask, but do you happen to know the owner? Or was it a different scenario you were able to review it? I apologize if you mentioned it in the video, I’m super tired right now lol
@@KyleLiongCars Oh ok I understand. Do you happen to have an Instagram? If I put my Instagram on here, would you mind maybe asking for me and letting me know? Or on here would be ok too. I’d just like to know if the car at least exists in that color 😅 my grandparents bought a non AMG in smoke silver when they worked at a dealership together. And I’ve always wanted to find an AMG version lol. And a 97 is the good year in my eyes, but they’re all awesome to me. I understand either way though, and apologize for the randomness of this lol. Thank you for replying quick too on those, I didn’t expect that quick as it’s a year old video haha
While your comments about the C36 being the "first" collaboration are true, if you state it as "first collaboration for the US market". But in reality, the truth is a bit different, as you seem to have been going off propaganda spread by Mercedes itself. The first true collaboration between Mercedes and AMG occurred with the 1992 190E 3.2l, followed by the 1992 300E 3.2l. These were fully built cars you could purchased directly through select European Mercedes dealers. Very nice glossy literature was also available as hand outs to customers. These cars deviated from the former model, which was a ala-cart system allowing customers to order a new Mercedes, pick and choose the AMG options and these options would be installed at AMG before the new car was delivered. Also in 1992, these ala-carte options were encoded into the VIN. The ala-carte program was available previous to 1992 but the options were not encoded into the VIN.
@@KyleLiongCars FWIW. The AMG Wiki entry states that Mercedes and AMG signed a contract of cooperation in 1993 and that the first commonly developed vehicle is the Mercedes E50 in 1993. Furthermore, my original statement is confirmed in the Wiki entry as "During the early 1980s and up until 1990, AMG offered a variety of engine performance packages, alloy wheels and styling products as an entirely independent company from Daimler-Benz. In 1990, AMG signed a co-operation agreement with Daimler-Benz, and AMG options and cars were then offered in Mercedes-Benz showrooms". The C36 was only mentioned as a "AMG nameplate no longer in production" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-AMG
Hi sir, I think everyone agrees that Wikipedia entries are never accurate and not to be used as reference to basically anything. Anyone, including me and you can easily edit Wikipedia entries which makes them intrinsically, unreliable. Please see the more accurate references below. The first one is a blog which could make it inaccurate, so I also included a reference from Mercedes Benz’s own website. Hope this clarifies some information. :) 1. 1993 - Daimler and AMG Cooperation, the Birth of the Mercedes C36 AMG Having recognized the potentials of AMG in the Mercedes-Benz brand, Daimler and AMG signed a contract of cooperation. AMG became exclusive to the Mercedes brand at this point. It was this year too when the Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG was introduced. The C36 AMG is the first to be made after the contract with Daimler was made. www.benzinsider.com/2014/04/amg-brand-history-a-look-at-how-it-all-began/ 2. The Powerful C. The first jointly developed high-performance vehicle from Mercedes-Benz and AMG: The C36. Stronger together. Stronger together! Mercedes-Benz and AMG showed this at the International Motor Show (IAA) in September 1993 with an impressive high-performance automobile: the C 36 AMG, the top model of the new C-Class 202 model series, premiered 25 years ago in Frankfurt. The sports saloon was the first series production vehicle jointly developed by the Stuttgart Group and the sports car maker from Affalterbach. www.mercedes-benz.com/en/classic/history/the-powerful-c/
@@KyleLiongCars I never stated that the Wiki is 100% accurate. I merely referenced it as a follow up to my original post. The 1993 E50 was NOT the first collaboration, that section is inaccurate, hence why I posted it. The majority of the Wiki entry is, especially this section "In 1990, AMG signed a co-operation agreement with Daimler-Benz, and AMG options and cars were then offered in Mercedes-Benz showrooms" I can't confirm that the date was 1990, my reference is that it was in 1992 (this is due to the fact that in 1992 all AMG options would now be encoded into the VIN of the vehicle), but its a minor discrepancy. The "and cars were then offered in Mercedes-Benz showrooms" is in direct reference to the 190E 3.2l, 300E 3.4l and later, the 500SL 6.0l. These were the first and they pre-date the existence of the C36. So you have one contract of cooperation signed in 1990 (or 1992) which resulted in multiple models produced by both Mercedes and AMG and sold as complete vehicles through select Mercedes dealers. You have another contract of cooperation signed in 1993 which resulted in the C36. Also, like I already mentioned, Mercedes is the one saying the "C36 is the first collaboration. That is the statement in question. Inquires to Mercedes and AMG about this statement have been met with "Thats what we were told to publish" or other rubbish for whatever reason. No explanation was ever given as to why this is their official position.
Forgot to mention that the E50 is a W210 model. In 1993, the W124 was still in production and the W210 was three years away from existence. Whom ever posted that might of been referring to the 500E, which AMG did tune but the E60 version of the 500E wasn't available till the facelift of 1994. 6.0l 500E's turned by AMG did exist prior to 1994 but the nomenclature was not E50 or E60 nor were these cars complete vehicles offered through Mercedes, they were still ala-carte vehicles.
@@KyleLiongCars blog.mercedes-benz-passion.com/2018/08/classic-reihen-sechszylinder-aus-affalterbach-der-c-36-amg/ in this german article they say that 5221 were build. But i dont know if the numbers are right.
Hello guys just a question. i bought long time ago a 1994 C280 which is a pre merger Amg and Mercedez confirmed it as well . it has only 77000km on it original. it has everything perfect condition. you think it will be less or more expensive than a regular c36. please it will be nice to know what i own now.
@@KyleLiongCars yes that's right, the E50 W210 with the M119 engine was only intended for the German market and only 2960 units were built. The E50 was also the first model that was completely assembled in Affalterbach, the C36 was delivered completely as a C280 and then dismantled. At 50 years of amg, i was in the mercedes museum in stuttgart, there were about 10 amg exhibited, the C 36 and the E 50 were there as cornerstones of the company's history! I have a C 36 as well as an E 50, so if you want to test an E 50 then come to Germany! see you
