I have one just like this one, a 97-model (with servo). I have a farm in the country and I always have had a van to do all the "dirty" and "heavy" rides out here. And then 1 private car (At present it is a Volvo V90 D5) for normal and longer rides. But I always missed a "little" simple car to just drive into town or other local errands without the need of taking a shower and get the "nice" clothes on, so I bought this Polo last year and I must say, the more I drive it, the more I love it. It is just so simple, and everything just works without any sort of struggles or fails. The engine has all its power at low rpm's so it is not "that" slow at all, and it actually do "pull" even in 5th gear. I would NOT recommend to go on long highway trips with it, it simply is too noisy and uses too much fuel, already at 120 km/h. But 1-2 hour trips at country roads and city driving it is just perfect, even better than my big Volvo, where it always is a struggle just to find a parking slot. I will give it 10 out of 10, if you are looking for a little reliable and handy car, for everyday driving. ;)
Goosebumps old volkswagen Polo still giving great performance I'm very happy to see this car and I'm very glad of you & really enjoyed this test drive of this car.
I had this car ( the 16V version 101hp ) for 8 years. Very stable and fun to drive car. I really loved it. But the engine was so problematic and had so many failures all those years that I had to sell it. It cost me a huge amount of money ....
@@Dirty-Harry Not than fast dude, the chasis is bullshit and the stability too... The only good thing is the engine, durable and 0% problems. Maybe you dont know how to take care of cars, because 90´s Polo are like a Panzer.
@@gabriel2404ful oh yes? for example? Because these engines are very simple and easy to fix. I have a 1.6 8 valves 75hp Polo from 1998 capable of 190km/h in gauge.
I think I can see why manual transmission cars are common in Europe. It is fuel-efficient, agile over complex distances, and accelerates quickly. I believe that a manual transmission driver probably has better driving skills than an automatic transmission driver. It is also more capable of handling dangerous situations that may arise while driving. As of 2021, in my country, there are only 6 types of manual transmission car models that can be purchased as new cars. Or just a van or truck. How terrible!
I own a 6n SE UK variant a true classic meaning no electric windows no central locking no abs or Aircon. Its not as rare as a Harlequins or the German joker but close
But the torque of this engine, makes it feel stronger on the roads than most comparable cars even with 1.6 or 1.8 liter engines. From 40-70 km/h in 3rd gear you have to be real quick with your BMW 320i for example. ;)
