Watch a full tutorial as a 2004 Toyota Tacoma TRD will have a Pioneer DEH-X4800BT Single Din Bluetooth Radio installed with bluetooth. We will be a Metra Wiring Harness Adapter made for Toyota and Scion vehicles. In addition, we will be installing a bluetooth mic.

I have the exact same truck, same year but I'm putting in a double DIN Pioneer. Looks like the wiring is exactly the same as this unit, so that's good. I was wondering about the blue wire with the tag on it for 'Remote System'? I assumed that was to be able to use the remote that came with the head unit? I hooked mine up and was going to test it once I get to installing it, but did I guess right or should I just cap it? I'll tape off my orange wire like you did. Great vid, except I almost got motion sick a few times :)

So I replaced my stereo with a Kenwood KMM-BT515HD by following your video. I ran into a couple issues that weren't mentioned. Firstly, at least one of my climate control knobs had a metal ring inside it that fell out when I took the knob off. I didn't notice this until I tried to put it back on and it wouldn't stay. Fortunately I found the ring on the floor and was able to put it back into the knob. The second problem I had was putting the dash back in. The lower left corner would not stay snapped in--something was obstructing. After taking the radio out and putting it back in two more times with no resolution I finally felt around the back of the cigarette lighter area and could feel that there was a lip it needed to go up and over. Once I did that it snapped right in and I was able to finish the job. Hopefully my experience helps someone else.

EXCELLENT VIDEO. BE SURE TO TEST THE NEW RADIO BEFORE YOU COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION.ALSO A GOOD IDEA TO CHECK THE BACK OF THE FIREWALL WITH A FLASHLIGHT TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY WATER LEAKS.TOYOTA'S CAN LEAK RAIN WATER FROM THE RIGHT AND LEFT SIDE FIREWALL. THEY CAN LEAK WATER FROM THE CENTER OF THE FIREWALL RIGHT BEHIND THE RADIO AREA. REMEMBER IF YOUR DEAD RADIO IS AFTER MARKET, THE EXISTING HARNESS SHOULD FIT. TAKE THE EXISTING HARNESS TO THE STORE AND CHECK IT OUT. YOU MAY NOT NEED TO PURCHASE A NEW HARNESS.

To clarify, your Toyota harness adapter should work with the new radio, but the radio specific harness doesn't transfer over between brands, you would be required to wire your new radio harness to the existing harness adapter if you are replacing a current aftermarket radio. Terrific video, very clear and step-be-step. I'm looking to replace the radio in my 2004 Tacoma. I live in Mexico and the fm reception is not good on the stock radio. I'm hoping to improve it with a replacement radio. If possible, can you suggest anything with the best change of improving my reception? Thanks for any info.

IF HD Radio is available in your area, that may be your solution of finding a radio that supports it. If not, purchase an amplified antenna.

THANK YOU so much for your informative video. I have a 2001 Tacoma S-Runner with an older 2000 Pioneer stereo. I will be replacing it with a Pioneer DEH-X4700BT, similar to the one you have in your video. Question: I plan to run two 10" Kickers in the rear of the truck with an amp (I don't know which amp to get yet). Do I need to get a separate harness for the amp or can I use that same Metra one? Thanks.

Adding an amp doesn't affect the harness you get as amplifiers use RCA type connections to carry the signal from the radio to the amp. Just pick up an amplifier kit which will include the parts needed ot install your amp, separate from the parts needed to install your radio.

Hey great video! Question, I have a 99' Toyota Corolla. I bout a JVC stereo for it after my previous Sony aftermarket stopped working. Anyway, I've never installed a stereo into a car before but it seems pretty straight forward. The only thing I'm confused about it the ground wire. I noticed you didn't disconnect your battery to install your stereo. Is that necessay? Also, in a car of my make and model do I need a ground wire connection? Sorry for the long question. Thanks.

Always disconnect the battery, even if it isn't shown in the video. It is always best practice. All radios need to be grounded, regardless of the year, make, or model of your car. As long as you have purchased the wiring harness adapter for your corolla, it includes a black wire in which you connect your new stereo black wire to. This is the ground wire which is needed for your new radio to work properly.

If there is no power antenna in the vehicle, do you have to connect power to the wire, like ypu did in the video? It was the blue wire. Or could you just remove the power antenna wire from the clip? Thanks

Hey man i have a very similar pioneer stereo in my 2000 tacoma, however after years of driving my right speaker has stopped working. I now listen to everything through my driver side speaker. The working speaker seams like it is at half mass aswell because i frequently have to turn it up to 50 to hear music at a decent level. do you have any idea what might be the problem? This was a customer vehicle, so its been a while, can't remember. Generally the 4runner version of this year has the amplified system. If yours has the amplified system, it sits directly behind the radio.

so i looked up the scosche part that you mentioned in the description.. but it seems that it is only a pocket.. where can i find the dash kit in whole or the frame that would cover around my aftermarket radio? (top half)

There really isn't one as the top half is a standard single din size radio. Generally new aftermarket radios are the same size as the toyota factory one but they come with their own trim ring to fill those empty gaps up around the radio. Hopefully this helps.

single din and double din refers to the size of the radio. single din size is what is used in the video. Double din radios are the size of touch screen radios.

should you have wires that you have three of the same color to tie together?. also seems like some of the color wires don't match exactly. one might be a darker shade of green then another

No, really it all should be different wiring colors, but between the wiring harness adapter and your radio harness, the shades may be a bit off since they are of different makes.

Generally Yes, it always won't be a perfect match depending on brands, but you should be good.

if you want to connect speakers to the RCA preouts, then you will need an amplifier to push them. They are 2 volts only.

Having some trouble with my 2003 tacoma prerunner. Radios not working. Previous owner, brother in law, said if u turned 3 things on at one time it would blow a fuse. Checked and fixed them and all is good. Radio still isnt working. It makes noise like its changing cds or something but has no power nor does it light up. Any help would be great! Thanks

Slightly confused about the harnesses. Once you color match each wire, do you twist the wire from the new radio harness with the one from the after-market harness? How do you crimp those together? (Probably a dumb question)

I used a wire crimper tool to crimp the two wires together. The stick one wire into the butt connecter from one harness and match the color and stick it into the other end of the harness then crimp them together.

The metal sleeve around the new radio? Just release the locking tabs around the radio to release the metal sleeve.

Does it make a difference if you connect that blue wire to the red wiring? Will there be any difference in operation if I don't connect the blue wire to anything?

The blue wire is strictly a power antenna. Toyota previously used the blue wire as current for the relay to push the power antenna up. If you do not have a power antenna, really, there isn't a need to connect to it. Totally up to you.

Thanks for the great video! I've read elsewhere online that not connecting the power antenna wire to anything might lead to a weak radio signal, is that the reason you connected the blue power antenna wire to the red ignition wires, to boost signal?

Not inputs, but generally all aftermarket radios today provide subwoofer RCA pre-outs for amplifier connectivity.

No, i would check your wiring with a multi-meter to ensure that the battery cable (yellow wire) is working correctly. If so, it may be an issue with the radio.

@@Username85254 Wow! That's a wild one! Just my opinion, I'd go over your wire connects once more & if no miswires…. Id go to the headlight wiring as someone may have tapped into any 12v wire for parking/headlights and they grabbed a radio wire? You sure its headlight or could it be "parking" lights? Radio and primary driving lights should in no way be connected in any form as I see it. Good Luck to you!!

I don't want to replace mine, I just want to fix it. Is there a fuse on the back of the factory stereo? I have checed all the fuses and they are good. Someone told me there is one on the back of the stereo. Is that true? Thank you

There isn't, but you can pull the radio and use a multi meter to test to see if you have power.

This truck wasn't equipped with them, but the ASWC-1 Module (sold separably) can retain those features.

Amp turn on wire. Triggers an aftermarket amplifier to turn on.

What did you connect the blue wire to, Also what is the white/blue wire that is coded REM OUT?

REM OUT is remote out, or the amplifier trigger wire if you had aftermarket amplifiers hooked up or if your vehicle was equipped with a factory amplifier. If both don't apply, just cap it off, it won't be used. On the other hand, you may have a power antenna (solid blue) which can be hooked into the blue / white wire.

Provo Beast Audio Installation Thank you for the heads up! My only other question was can I wore the Dimmer ORANGE wire to any other so it gets power, also there is the case of the BLUE power antenna wire. Can that be connected the same as the Dimmer wire. And finally concerning the 2 BLACK wires, are those to be connected to the truck via blot/screw to secure as a ground in 2 locations or am I to connect the two and then ground them to the truck? A ton of questions I know but I am very grateful for the assistance.

The dimmer wire on the harness adapter connects into the radio's orange / white wire. If it isn't equipped or your radio doesn't support it, just tape it off, don't connect it to anything else! Do not connect the blue wire to the dimmer wire. That blue wire can either be tied into the red wire or use the blue / white wire on the radio. As for the ground, just connect the back wires together, you do not need to ground it separately.
