I am so glad I was fortunate to have met the guys here in Corpus Christi TX way back in 95, i think it was. Man, memories. I got their autographs, and gave it to my step dad, who taught me to play drums when i was 5-6 yrs old!
@dbogle1 Bob Bogle was much more of an influence on Rock & Roll than he ever got credit for. His lead was the original Ventures' style, which had qualities that were never equalled. His guitar style was my #1 influence, as it was for countless others. I was very lucky to have met him, watched him record, and to see him play live with the Ventures (in the early 60s). Bob Bogle is one of the all-time great guitar men in terms of influence, taste, and skill. He is one of the immortals.
One of the most amazing things to me about this guitar genius is how great he was on lead AND bass! An amazing talent whose music will live on and on! Look at the thrill in the eyes of Peter Frampton, Rick Derringer, "Skunk" Baxter, et al. as they they almost couldn't beleive they were next to Bob! Great stuff!
I honestly feel sorry for these 43 people who wasted their time pressing the unlike icon! It's up for debate I know and I try hard to respect! But talking about respect......did they have any? Probably lack of information! The BEST instrumental band EVER!!!! Please people try to learn about the artist before disliking. The Ventures are almost UNTOUCHABLES!!!! What's there not to like? Even when it's not your favorite style of music, THEY kick butt BIG TIME!!!! SORRY for these 43 that did not understand GOOD talent/music yet! Oh yeah of course, they are probably 3 times younger than THESES GUYS playing!!!!
Gerry McGee, Nokie Edwards, are two of the best of the best guitarists, no question about it. Meanwhile, let's not forget, it was Bob Bogle's playing on the Fender Jazzmaster we fell in love with from the start, the unique tone from that Jazzmaster with Bob Bogle's chord like solos, magical, e.g. the tone and playing technique on Blue Moon etc
Yep - very, very sad indeed, as for the rest of the Ventures, they have all passed-away by January 22, 2022. May they all REST IN PEACE, while playing in Heaven as well. Their super duper drummer Mel Taylor whom hailed from Brownsville Brooklyn was the first to die from a brain tumor and cancer in 1996, Bob Bogle left us in 2009 at age 75,, Nokie Edwards left us in 2018 at the age of 82, and finally the groups founder Don Wilson died back on January 22, 2022 at home in his sleep of natural causes at the age of 88. Also, lets not forget the late Gerry McGee whom died when he collapsed on stage while doing a concert in Japan in 2019 at the age of 83. RIP "The Ventures" 1958-2022 and they've earned their keeps, and their instrumental guitar music playing will LIVE-ON. Have a Happy Holidays for 2022 to everyone.
I agree with TG. Like MANY others, Walk Don't Run was the first song I learned (from start to finish) and it is still my favorite. Thanks to your Dad!! :)
Lovely tones by Bob on his Jazzmaster. It's true this guitar does have a much mellower sound than say a Strat. But it's really the way that Bob plays that makes all the difference.
I grew up listening to The ventures, 'Lets Go' being the first Album I heard. (although not their first), The sweet melodic nature of their playing with no fancy effects is so rare to see these days. R.I.P Bob, Mel.
Gerry mostly plays lead for the Ventures (he's played lead on the annual Japan tours for over 20 years now), but pitches in as bass player sometimes too (as does Nokie during sets when he plays with them).
Yes He is Member of group The Wild Ones . member that wrote Omoide No Nagisa is Leader of The Band Wild Ones Kase Kunihiko. one commit suicide . 04/20/2015. here introducing The Ventures his name is Torizuke Shigeki Rhythm Guitar Player
Bob should have not given up the lead guitar . Nokie didnt play with the accent that Bob did . Bobs taste in guitar sounded was better to me . Just playing notes without the right settings is not cutting it . Bob was the Ventures .
Forgot to mention this is not even their "standard" line up. This is the usual bass player on lead guitar and vice virsa....ehehheehe! That's how BAD they are!!!! They can switch around at any time and still......
