In this video I go into extreme detail replacing rear brake shoes, e-brake cables, and wheel cylinders on my 1998 Dodge Dakota donor axle. Please enjoy! Please check out todays suggested RU-vid channel below: Project Farm: / projectfarm
I haven't done drum brakes in about 20 years . I forgot how many parts were in there ! So glad I watched your video. Extremely helpful ! Great job ! I think I might actually be able to do mine and get them back together right ! Thank you !
THANKS for posting your technic on how you knock that brake job out-THAT helps a lot of home boy fixers, and i was trying to remember how the emergency cable went on- now i see.
Because of that blooper at the end I will never forget the spring orientation and that it goes first and also goes down and over the plate 😂 good video , about to do my first set of drums tomorrow as I have no choice, been ducking drums all my life. Subscribed!
Glad you had everything laid out. I have a brake light on my 97 Dakota 4x4 with rear wheel ABS, the brake light always stays on. I have replaced just about everything and bled the brakes 12 times and no air. The sensor on the differential has been changed there are no leaks in the line or the booster. I have disconnected the battery and zip tied the positive and negative cables together as this is supposed to reset the PCM to no avail and there is no ABS module to read an error code. That damn light won't go away. One thing I did notice as you had yours all laid out is that the parking brake strut (What you referred to as "the bar") on yours is straight on both ends. Mine is bent downward on the left side where the spring sits but it looks like it is supposed to be bent as both of the prongs are bent evenly and because this is my first Dakota, I was not sure if it was supposed to be bent or not. So ill replace that bar and hope it was the problem. If you have any suggestions let me know.
King, does your ABS dummy light come on when you have your key turned on to see all the dummy lights? If not then one of your instrument lights is broken. Mine was broken and i replaced it and my ABS light came on. Look into replacing your ABS module. Im pretty sure i need to on mine. I replaced the sensor on top of the diff and my ABS light didnt go away. Im starting to think dodges arent that great of vehicles.
Sorry for the delayed response. Mine doesn't have ABS, so not sure. But just as a stab in the dark, I would check the following, if applicable: Wheel sensors and wires, Fluid level sensor on the brake fluid reservoir and wires, If you have ABS you will have an ABS control unit under the hood so check for leaks or wiring issues. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Sorry for the delayed response. Here is the link: www.ebay.com/itm/392883190336 . I bought these from Ebay, (not a sponsor). They are 9in and come with 2 sets of shoes and all the springs and hardware. Again, size is 9in. Good luck!
