in this video i describe how to properly diagnose your fault dodge computer. 90% of the time on older durangos they will randomly stall for no reason. sometimes its just a sensor but if you have changed the sensors after scanning it. and your durango still stalls then you might have a faulty ECM

To any of yall dealing with this start at the ignition module and work back to the pcm had a dakota that threw 2 pcm in a year and had a no bus issue after 30 min of running with new pcm grabbed volt meter and tested at the fuse box and they were all dying off traced wiring back to ignition module changed and runs like a dream now and even picked up 2.5 miles to the gallon hope this helps some of ya

Anyone with a Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep etc from 1996 1997 1998 1999 etc with the jtec style computer (the same ones in the '98 Dodge Dakota with two torx screws in the front), there is a simple solution to the random rough idle and stalling issues. Remove the left torx screw on the PCM computer, add two washers and then replace the screw. Can do the same with the other side, but do them one at a time. The screw seems to be just long enough to eventually ground out a component inside the computer and cause the engine to stall out. Didn't believe it myself, but when I pressed on the screw there in the front the engine died and backing the screw out fixed the issue. On warm days or once the engine was warmed up, the thermal expansion must have been just enough to momentarily ground the component.

@@lilmansworld2239 If it is a computer question, I'm pretty sure the Stratus used a different computer. Probably all the same issues with older computers, though. When capacitors start to age the computer becomes less reliable.

The multi function switch has a screw aswell, for your signal, and wiper switch. Using the tilt steering makes it get pulled out .

Hi. Just wanted to say thanks for the info. My dads 2001 ram has been having random stall issues. Reading no bus also. I was lucky and found a ecu for 36 dollars. Waiting for it to be shipped and i will cross my fingers and hope i saved my dad from heading out to a shop and getting conned for excessive "testing" cost and overcharged parts

No problem it should fix the problem n make sure to check the connectors also. The only issue I ever ran into if it was an RT model something with the security system if it's not coded it won't work with out programming but that rare

This is very true, I ahd the same issue with my 99 dodge Durango 5.9L 360. It was reading no bus and I changed the computer, it ran perfectly!!!

KNEROES For how long did it run perfectly? My son has one and we just spent 1700 for computer and alternator because it messes everything else up on the car. We have all ready replaced the transmission and starter and ignition starter etc..Its ridiculous..The car is dying again..Computer has been replaced twice

Roberta Larson have u checked the ecu wiring at the plugs making sure there are no broken or loss wires in the connector u may have a bigger problem on your hands there are there any codes that the computer is kicking out has the crankshaft sensor been changed has the distributor been checked because that is the cam signal that controls the injectors n timing also but I would start with wiring n codes 1st

I had this problem on my 99 5.2 4wd. Went to the junkyard and got 2 ecms. Could only find one identical truck and the second one was from a 99 5.2 2wd. Put the 4wd one in and have been driving almost a year no problems.

I had the same problem, and I can only say that I am happy that I am in the habit of questioning everything. I already know there's so many dishonest and greedy shops out there, but what makes me so furious, is that I knew this guy and did business with him several times years ago, when I had a transmission shop. He owns a local auto electric shop and he tried to rob me by saying that my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500's computer was "rare" and that it was going to cost $1200 to get a factory rebuilt. I immediately knew that the guy was up to something, because how can a truck like mine have such a rare computer? So, I called a car computer exchange site and they asked me for the VIN#. It turned out, they knew exactly what version of ECM I needed, and was certainly not rare. I ended up paying $350 for a swap and they gave me instructions on how to install/start the truck. The truck ran just fine!

Symptom: Engine will not start. Gauges are inoperative. nO buS message displayed on odometer. Problem 1 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor. Problem 2 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Problem 3 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) Sensor Problem 4 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Problem 5 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted wire.. Problem 6 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted Governor Pressure Sensor. Also check your grounds on the heads/firewall and fenders. And lastly as mentioned by the video the PCM may have broken solder joints due to heating and cooling of the main PCB. Not to blame Dodge/Chrysler, this is a pretty common problem with many electronic devices. Any electronics that gets hot then cools is going to flex the main PCB and break the non lead solder that is used in electronics.

Make sure that you match security settings on donor vehicle and on the vehicle its going into other wise an ECU with immobilizer or factory anti theft installed in a vehicle with none of these options will result in all the computers in the vehicle having to be reset. Ask me how I know. Also for vehicle inspection your VIN number will not match and fail. So if the ECU does work you will have to have some one with Dodge DRB scan tool do it for you if your state requires this.

I had an issues with the plug by the single screw press on it works so I think it’s a solder issue ordered a computer and it worked after I got the ecu from junk yard it didn’t work I tryed to tune it myself and it was locked lol

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram with 5.2....I have had the no bus three times...and every time it was a bad computer...symptoms were truck would stall and not restart, fuel gauge would not operate, after a long cool down truck would start but only run for a few minutes before stalling again, eventually dead forever...In my most recent no bus I purchased a Cardone remanufactured unit from Autozone..truck is running great now.I hope it lasts a long time

After much investigation the jackass I got it from put the wrong sn pcm in causing it to shift bad and stall. Works now!

you are correct, kinda. computers are plug and play but... you must macth a Durango that has or doesnt have an alarm system. computers from alarmed durangos do not interchange with ones that do and vice versa .you MUST match the part number on the computer. just because its from a 318 going in a 318 it might not work. the P# on the computer label must match. last 2 letters of the # don't matter but #s do. the tag on hood will tell you if computer is California emissions ok also.

Just got me a new truck 98 dodge Dakota 112k. Almost new... Warmed up and stalled. Weak fuel pump, bad PVC. a couple vacuum lines to canister replaced. Cleaned connections to battery. Still stalled immediately. Removed battery connections over night. Started right up in morning... Board may have to take longer to bleed down settings is all i can figure... Radio still retained all programmed stations to. Usually those get wiped after battery disconnect.... Running most of day started 15 times and let warm up.... Going to get tags and plates in morning

I added a new video of what's going on I put some new coil packs on all 8 cylinders I figured out where it was a bad ground and I still have no spark

my 01 durango sputtered and wanted to die when accelerating onto the highway. it died while warming it up after about 10mins and also after pulling into a gas station and putting it in park. I do not get the No bus code tho. ive also changed cam and crank shaft sensors. what else could be the problem? could it still be pcm/ecm without the no bus code? Please help, i have to drive my kids around in this truck!! :/

I just bought a 98 v8 4x4 Durango and it only has 64,000 miles on it no joke. The only problem it is is the gas gauge is a little off. It’s at the first line when it’s empty.

I have a 1994 dodge dakota 5.2 liter, having issues with it shutting off going down the road. I replaced the computer,throttle positioning sensor, map sensor. It is showing a code 12 which states loss of power to the ecm. What could the issue be??

I had intermittent stalling and got po135 code which is ignition code. I changed almost every part in the ignition circuit except the pcm. do you think it may be a pad pcm? I hae a 2001 dodge ram van 1500 5.2 but pcm looks just like yours. do you think I can go to a junk yard and just swap it?

Same thing just make sure it's the same engine n transmission if you have a grey security key the replacement PCM will have to be programmed to your key for it to start

Was also tryna find a wiring issue by juggling wires. I smacked the pcm and my rpms drop. Smacked it again did the same thing then smacked it again and nothing happened. But my truck dies and stalls and splutters out on me randomly. Some days can't start it and have to wait a while some days starts and runs down the road plus more and then splutters or just shuts off. Whilst driving. I've replaced most sensors including ignition coil. And not sure what else it could be.

I have a 2006 durango 3.7 2wheel drive. I recently had a new PCM installed I ordered online. Supposedly the manufacturers were suppose to already have the codes installed per my vehicle VIN info. But that didn't correct it. It still wouldn't crank nor turn. It was making this electrical popping noise when attempting to start. I took it to a chrysler dealer who claimed to have installed the codes, but again, no success. Then they changed the plugs no success, Then they finally told me I had compression issues. I DONT BELEIVE THEM. I still think its my PCM

Not starting at all..No crank or start. That crazy electrical popping noise after turning key. Now I had 2 major repairs done prior to this happening. I had a fuel pump and tank replacment by the Chrysler dealer. And thats when it all started!

Ralph Sanchico have them recheck the wiring going to the tank n also check the relays under the hood also n fuses sound like something is grounding n also if that has an ASD relay check that auto shut down relay cuts everything if it's not working right

Jason Fellon Thanks Jason, I have to make one correction on your first question. I obviously didn't read it correctly. With the old ECM still in. The vehicle (after having my Fuel pump installed by my jack legged mechanic friend) It ran fine but the engine light would not go off, eventhough he told eventually it will! Then some months later, while driving to NY, it thumped real hard as if the tranny was having issues. It did this throughout the entire trip. Thank God we made it back to MD. But it only happened once or twice after that! Then finally one night it didn't start like the last fuel pump issue. Got it to start, but it stalled out on me on the side road. Thats when the first Chrysler/Dodge dealer, made the repairs by installing the fuel pump AND and new tank. Then on the way home after picking it up..All HE*& broke loose with the lights flashing like a Rockerfeller christmas tree. But the truck ran fine. Autozone did a diag and said the Alternator was overcharging. So a new one was put on but no positive results. Then finally she just didn't start at all. Thats when the new ECM was installed and the above info kicked in! All I can say is I got $2650 bucks tied into this truck. I can't just let go! Thanks for your patience!

Ralph Sanchico so at this point your with the truck n it's still not starting at all? Has anyone ever checked out the cam or crank sensor they both control fuel n spark just a thought cause u fixed the no bus with the swap on the ecu

I have a dodge 1500 5.9 that is having the same issues. Changed the crankshaft and cam sensor to no avail, Im hoping the PCM will cure it.

it should just make sure if u get a reman one if it doesn't start right away it has to be programmed to your key if u have a grey one if u have a basic black key u should be fine as long as if it's the same setup

Check all grounds block to body n body grounds, the PCM grounds to the body n the engine

that is extremely odd a swap of an ecu wouldn't affect that, make sure your connectors are secure 1st might have one slightly lose or might have a bad connection my Durango has that odd problem sometimes but mine is with the tach suddenly falls or it could be the connection to the dash cluster behind it , neons from 95 to 99 or so have that issue with the solder that breaks on the back of the cluster I have fixed alot of them

I have the 99 5.9. I found the exact truck at the junkyard and took the PCM. Upon install it didn't start, not at all, and still getting the "no bus" . The old PCM would at least start and run till it got hot. Are you sure that it doesn't need to be flashed over?

if u have a grey security key or u pulled from one with a security system it won't start you may need to exchange it for another one or u need to also verify the codes on the ecu matches yours because there is federal n California emission standards also or u can buy a blank one from the part store n have it programmed by the dealer in anything this works 98% of the time

Same as a Dodge Durango same year is preferred n make sure the Durango isn't a security key either

Lose connection on those 3 connectors next time ur car die live the ignition oon position and push the 3 connectors then u will hear the fuel pump kick on and then all ur gauges back to normal thenn everything will work fine until one of those 3 connectors get lose again

Depending on if the computer has broken solder joints in it also, the connector issue is the 1st sign of an issue with the solder pins

A clip broke on the wire harness where it plugs into the computer, I put a hose clamp around the clip but the hose clamp loosens up and the engine dies and backfires and plugs the catalytic converter, can I cut off the damaged clip from the wiring harness and wire in one not broken?

With mine when it shuts down and throws the no bus if I push the middle of the computer it instantly turns right back on. It's almost like it's a little loose. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to replace this but it looks like I'm going to have to anyways.

You will have to have the key reprogrammed if you use a different ECU but you could use one from a non rt 2001 without the security key but you would have to disable the key reader or unfortunately you'll have to have a locksmith come out n reprogram your key to the new/used ECU

Jason Fellon you never mentioned the fact that the Durango R/T is AWD full time. Will a ECU for a 5.9L 4wd interchange?

on the rt's you can't interchange the ECU at all to my understanding because of the grey security key if u have that grey key it has a RF ID on that key , best bet is to buy a reman ECU n have the dealership flash your info to it but u can always try one from a 5.9 non RT to verify the ECU is the problem I wouldn't drive with that ECU could cause problems with the trans or the engine because they use different fuel maps etc etc

What if I don't get a no bus. I have a 97 dodge Dakota v6 not sure if my gauge is even able to show that. But if I do the three key thing on off on off on it says 12 but other than that it won't throw a code

It's more of heat plus road vibration that causes this issue over years of it

@@RedneckProvingGrounds ​ @Jason Fellon My truck has a new remanufactured ECU. I was sitting at Burger KIng and it just shut off. I put it in park and turned the key to off. When the line moved I cranked it and it ran 10 seconds and quit, then when I tried to crank it it was turning over but it sounded like it wasn't getting gas. A mechanic unplugged the white harness I think and the gauges moved and it cranked up. It shut off 2 more times going home.He unplugged and replugged. No OBD code. I tightened all the grounds , batteries, and cleaned plug connections. I cranked it and let it run 10 minutes twice.

If I jiggle the middle connector at the pcm the relays and fuel pump come on and the truck starts back up. So don't just change your computer before trying that.

I changed the PCM on my 2003 Dakota the other day. So far no stalling and starts runs fine. BUT I am still getting the no bus error and the gauges are all going crazy. What can be the issue?

@@RedneckProvingGrounds Purchased one off of Ebay with matching part number. Sent them my Vin and odometer readings. Think it can be the crankshaft sensor? I've already spent $800 changing the BCM & PCM on this thing.

If the wrong year PCM is used the dash cluster will not work correctly also. You must have it reflashed by a dealership or a shop with the correct tools to flash the replacement PCM to your year vehicle

on my 99 Dodge Durango it would randomly die and sometimes wouldn't stay back up for a day or 2 someone's a week thought it was fuel pump but figured it wouldn't start if it was that it ended up being one of the clips running to the computer I had to keep messing with still haven't fixed it completely but does run now

I put a brand new supossably and install ed it and cranks but dosnt start and i heard idk about this whole computer thing but i know the mph needle should at least rise showing that the engin is sending signals to the computer so any help or video on it is perfect by the way i have a 2001 dadge ram 1500

If the rpm needle does move to at least 200rpm then you might want to check your crankshaft sensor also what did yours do before you replaced your computer

Are you getting a no bus error on the mileage display? What color is your key grey or black? If your fuel pump turning on? What codes does it have stored in the ECU?

@@RedneckProvingGrounds The mileage displays fine. The key is an aftermarket black ilco brand key. When you turn the key you can audibly hear the fuel pump kick on. I did not read codes yet I have to borrow my friends snapon solus and I can let you know if there are any codes

i have an 02 durango 4.7 and i was idling at a red light when i heard the fan relay click, fan started, and two cylinders started misfiring. i changed the coils to no avail. i redid a ground from the pcm to the engine, nothing. i believe its the pcm. but im wondering if i get one at a scrapyard, will i have problems with it if i have grey key? i need to get the truck running soon. thanks for any advise

+Jason Mateus grey key wont work for the swap you have to have the non grey key aka no security key , best bet would be to run a compression test on those cylinders miss firing n check the injectors on those also , if u still suspect the pcm then you will have to buy a new one n drive to the dealership n have them flash your skim into it to allow it to start with the key u have

+Jason Fellon hello again, thanks for your response. i have changed the spark plugs today and now what i get is p0352. So that pretty much tells me it has nothing to do with cylinder compression. all my old plugs had carbon deposits and only one was yellow-ish.They all smelled like unburned fuel. i changed the coil on the yellowish one since it had liquid fuel on it. But its still misfiring, quite randomly on top of it all. So im going to reground the pcm correctly since i also discovered that the ground band was destroyed.If nothing works, ill pull the pcm, get the model number, a matching replacement and reflash. I dont understand why it started misfiring wgen i heard the fan relay click and fan started. the ac wasnt even on.

well that's a good one I have never attempted that assuming they are both the same. I would confirm it was a federal emissions or California emissions the difference I have found out is the California emissions have an extra O2 sensor in place , if you plug in a California emissions into a federal emissions u will have a check engine light

Hey man I have the no bus code as well and just purchased an ecu at a local junkyard. Except for the one i just bought says MOTOROLA S/N..... is this an aftermarket ecu or stock. Considering its a diff looking ecu that i origanlly had in my durango. Thank you for your input

+Richard Caminiti one way to find out toss it in n turn the key n see what it does, if it starts then dies then it might have the security system in the ecu n if it starts n runs but has a check engine light for an o2 sensor then it's a California emissions ecu that's not locating the other 02 sensor that federal emissions ecu doesn't have

I have a 2000 dakota Rt 5.9 it has no bus on the dash I just got a transmission rebuilt for it I read the crank sensor it’s only reading 4 volts with the original ecu I went to the junkyard and grabbed a ecu out of a 5.9 Durango and a 5.9 ram both were 2wd now I read the crank sensor and the other 5 volt sensors it reads 5 volts out of every sensor with both junkyard ecu but it still won’t start the only thing I’m thinking is they must of messed something up on the transmission I checked the governor pressure sensor and it’s good can anyone give me another idea as to what it can be I changed the distributor wires spark plugs and main ignition it does crank but won’t start fuel pump comes on

I've been searching everywhere on how to remove those connectors. I've been trying to disconnect them for two days. So far, a screwdriver was stabbed through the thumb, wires almost stripped, but the connectors remain, LOL. Excuse me, watch out idiot coming through LOL.

@@RedneckProvingGrounds in the past i had problems with the White pcm connector. Ever since i tightened down the connections with hose clamps it seemed to be a good connection. Im thinking now possibly one of the pins in the white connector itself is bad. The pcm is only a few months old brand new programmed with a matched VIN.. pointing towards fuel pump as well now.

Grandfather's 2000 5.9 4x4 died when driving. Tried unplugging a couple sensors to see if it was a sensor shorting out and nothing. He brought it to the shop he always goes to and they told him it can't be fixed. Now i know that's bullshit. So the easiest way is getting a junkyard computer and putting it or keep chasing a sensor shorting out. He recently almost overheated so I'm thinking the heat did something and now a couple weeks later it craps out.

Usually the ECU won't throw a code when they are failing. I would suggest replacing the ECU if you have a normal black key then your fine but if you have a grey key then it will need to be programmed to the replacement ECU

Went ahead and ordered the ecu. Don't think it has a Grey key. In the 20 something years I've been around it never seen a Grey key. Just the black and the fob to unlock everything

so my 1999 v8 5.9 dodge durango has recently started this random stalling issue. Car will start and drive them it'll stall and, odometer will blink 4 times and display no bus,followed by check engine light then secuirty then gauges will drop and gas light comes on. I've tried running the car waiting for it to stall listening for noises and nothing has stood out, I've tried wiggling wires to see if there loose or triggering it no luck. I've replaced tps,map sensor,crankshaft sensor. I've tried moving around the auto shutdown relay and fuel pump relay. I even bought a brand new ecm with no luck. the car turns on and runs fine but after x amount of mins of running/driving it will stall and repeat this. I'm guessing when it gets to a certain temp . Any ideas or opinions I would appreciate.

i would check the ecu on the passenger side fender, that's probably going to be the problem or in the other case we had here it was the grounds on the front of the heads one of them was bad

Jason Fellon the ecm was replaced with still no luck but ...Update found issue!: so after a month 1/2 of diagnosing this issue I found the problem. After stalling and no bus being diaplayed with other lights. I wiggled The pigtail conector coming out of the ecm closest to firewall (black). When I did this I heard a relay click, I checked the Dash and lights were gone,cranked it fired up. Repeated this 10x and corrected it everytime. the black ecm pigtail connector has a bad connection as I can not only make the car start wiggling it but make it shut off.

I hooked it up to a scan tool, and noticed the B1S2 read constant voltage of 1. There was no information on the live data being produced for fuel system 2, it just showed -? I have been unsuccessful in learning how to use a multimeter, and I’m a little limited in my apartment garage.

It was off for three days this time Usually after any repair, attempt and code clear /battery reset the codes are back within a couple Drive cycles

I have a similar problem with my 1999 5.9 SLT idling high and the stalling issue with it flashing no bus. But my O/D Off light flashes a lot as well. It'll go on and off at different speeds and sometimes it'll flash multiple times all while making the transmission shift into a higher gear. Could this be the computer causing this as well? I've replaced the idle air control valve, overdrive switch (gear shift), governor pressure sensor and solenoid, Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid, Throttle Position Sensor, and the Output speed sensor. And I still have the issues. As a matter of fact, they've gotten worse. Please help me with any advice you can give. Thanks for you help.

I'm having the same issue, though my truck died in the middle of Austin rush hour and hasn't started since. I've determined it was either the ECM or the main wiring harness. Can I use a 5.2 ecm on a 5.9 to test comms? I plan on buying a new ECM anyway, if that's the case

Well as I stated per my video random stalling if it says no bus generally that's the ecu that has failed , depends also if yours has the alarm also sometimes a used one might not work but normally 98% of the time a used one will work just has to be the same engine n transmission combo

On a side note have u tired to use a scanner to see if this isn't a crankshaft position sensor issue ? Checked the fuses to the ecu.

All the gauges flutter at the cluster. I know it's getting power, but the OBD port isn't getting a reading. I checked EVERYTHING in the ECU and even managed to tighten that stupid bolt for the engine inline, everything there is good.

i have a 2001 durango 5.9 i had no bus message got the vehicle to start by wiggling the black connector on the pcm itself it lets the fuel pump prime the line and it starts for a minute and shuts off ,i unplugged the crankshaft sensor connector and it didnt remove the no bus, so is it the pcm ?

Hi i have a 2000 durango and ive already changed the pcm out to a brand new one. Ran okay for 2 months now it wont start. The mechanics dont even know whats wrong!! Changed out about 10 parts so far and nothing!! Any advice?

Stephanie Amos any codes in the ecu cause the computer needs a signal from the distributor for cam sensor , also needs a crank sensor, fuel pressure also , map sensor also to run correctly and finally the wiring from the ecu out to the sensors needs to be looked at n also just don't throw parts at it until its repaired

Stephanie Amos for me it was the pcm afterall,but i did replace the crankshaft,cam,iac,tpm,coolant,rotor sensor before buying a rebuilt pcm,where did you buy yours at?

also with yours do u have a normal black key without fob or do u have a grey key because the grey key is the security key n you cannot swap between the two I have worked on alot of mopars. if u have a black key you will be fine just use car-part.com to find your interchange for the ecu but it has to be same engine n transmission

so as i stated above the ECU is having problems, so i would suggest changing it out. but if you have the grey key it is more rounded then the standard key then you have the security system that will not allow the car to start even with swapped ECU from another car if it doesnt have the security feature then you are fine but the wreaking yard wont know that or even from a parts dealer like autozone etc wont know that either there refurb ecu are basically tested wreaking yard ones or someone turned in as a core.

+larry simpson do u have a way to scan the computer for codes cause only a few causes either the cam sensor went out which is the distributor or the crank sensor went out or the coil went out or the computer went out

I know it wont work if you plug a computer from a chipped key donor vehicle. The chipped key makes it tricky

Williiam Whitlock only reason it wouldn't start would be a security issues with the new used ecm, if the Durango it came from had a grey security key tho. I would exchange it for another one most Durango's before 2000 were non security unless it was an rt model to my knowledge I could be wrong

it should work the same just make sure that u don't have the grey security key style because some do have the transponder n it may work if u get a non transponder aka security system in the ecu which reads the key to allow to start. just make same make n model with same engine n transmission n emission controls aka fed or California

I changed the ECM out in my Ram 1996 and it ran fine until I stopped at a train track, and then it died, and wouldn’t start.

@@RedneckProvingGrounds didn’t get a no bus light as the 1996 doesn’t have that warning light. I got No faults on my fault code reader though. I’ve read that crankshaft sensor will not show a fault on a code reader for the 1996 Ram.

If you have a decent scanner while your cranking it over check under live data n scroll down to rpm if it's reading 150-200 then your crank sensor is working

There is not a NO BUS advisory light or display on the 96 Rams to my knowledge. There are only light up warning symbols on the dash. I have never seen a NO BUS warning. Shop charged $560 to put a new crankshaft sensor in couple months ago, and ran ok. Then had a rough idle and truck died, so got a refurb ECM. Ran ok and then died again. So thinking it could maybe been the camshaft sensor??

Hi Jason, I appreciate your video. I am having trouble with a wiring harness and PCM do not or are not compatible. I swapped a 2002 Durango Engine into a 1998 Dakota 4x4 Sport, both are 5.9L engines. We have a 2002 Durango, AWD, Auto, 5.9. It ran like a top for the 100,000 miles we've put on it with regular basic maintenance. My wife drove it to the store last week, came out about an hour later, no start. Had it hauled home on a rollback. I plugged in my scan tool, no PCM detected or something along that line. No bus in the odometer, no start, primed it with ether and then tried gasoline, no bueno. Is there a diagnosis trouble tree for this? I'm befuddled. Thank you, Chip.

well pretty much check the grounds on the heads each side as one person found out, also check for blown fuses, finally bad ecu on the passenger side fender

If you have ever had a problem with your 1999 Dodge Durango stalling either while driving down the roadway, at a stop-light or anywhere, use the above link above for the NHTSA department of the federal government for recalls, even if you don't own your vehicle anymore. I have a family member who has one & has owned it since it was purchased brand-new, it began stalling since it was new, first time in traffic on a very busy multi-laned street in Dayton, OH. It was a very scary & dangerous situation, that luckily turned out okay due to my sister's quick-thinking, but could have been death for 2 adult women & 4 children. They have spent a fortune on their Durango trying to find & fix the problem over & over. If you do research on this problem on the net, you will find hundreds, maybe thousands of people's posts reporting history of this problem, but ironically there are NO TSB's out there for that particular problem for 1999 Dodge Durangos which can not be if these vehicles have been looked at for a stalling problems, which indicates to me that the dealerships or someone above them were not reporting this problem in the system like they were supposed to be doing all along all of these years (perhaps the vehicles appeared in the systems when they were checked out but were listed in the system under an irrelevant problem, so that they could avoid listing the real problem. I believe that Dodge has been hiding this major possibly life-threatening problem for years & have hidden it so well & so far no one has contacted the federal government direct. If all of you contact them & report your stalling problem with your present or former 1999 Dodge Durango, Dodge will have to come clean & own up to their problem that they have managed to sweep under the rug & keep hidden for years from the federal government, as well as their customers! You don't have to continue to fight with this possibly life-threatening problem on your own any longer!

Carlos Cerna if you are still having no bus then it's is power related check all the grounds on the engine n engine bay n also check for blown fuses also

RC Adventure are u getting a no bus across the mileage display by chance, also remember the Cam sensor is in the distributor, n the crank sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine in the rear by the distributor also n also check for any codes also

well i would give it a shot most people have been having good luck with this, you just have to make sure its the same ending on the serial number as in AE which is what determines if it is California emissions or federal emissions that your vehicle has.the serial number is on the ECU also, also keep in mind also that if you go the wreaking yard route you might go thru a few because of the security feature that some durangos,dakota,ram 1500 had in them, if it doesn't start after you hook the new one up that means it has security enabled in the ecu. just make sure you get the same engine and transmission combo which would be 2wd for 2wd n 4wd for 4wd. or you go to the dealership n spend alot $$$$ for them to install a new one if you cant find a good ECU.

also check for bad grounds on the front of the heads,fire wall, also check the connectors on the ecu you might have to back trace some wiring, P0601 is low voltage or bad ecu i would check wiring 1st to rule that out

ok so if it has the security in it then it wont work then cause if not i may have to get one online for 250 and its plug and play the dodge place said they sould flash it if nothing is burn up inside it i cant tell that it is bad i unhooked the battery for 15 minutes one time and it took 2 weeks for the light to come back on

I have 99 dodge ram and I rebuilt the engine replaced the fuel pump and the ASD relay but my truck still won't start. I even swapped out the pcm still nothing. help please..

that's alot of work you have some when u changed the ecu did u make sure you had the black key or grey key for ignition key n also did you make sure you had the same engine n transmission combo n also what codes are the computer throwing while trying to start if u have someone with a basic scanner even there should be a code in the computer if u have tired to start it n it but starting up have they checked for spark at the spark plugs have they checked the coil also, there are many issues that could cause it not to start

I had put new spark plugs and wires... the ob reader said there was no voltage from the out put.

well I had one cut out on me about every 30min or so, best bet if u can get a tow it would be best , also make sure you had everything covered in the video also with the no buss across the mileage read out when it stalls

Hey also I want to add to this video recently I worked on my friends 98 Dakota 2wd it was stalling with no bus it ended up being the fuel pump n the ASD relay n the fuel pump relay having issues

WLADODGERS213 well his didn't have the no bus code but the connection at the computer was bad for the fuel pump circuit it ended up taking out the asd relay then the fuel pump relay due to the fuel pump was back feeding into the circuit I have no clue how that happened its astonished me tho

yea i know tell me about..lol i have a 1998 and that thing is a pain also, recently it decided to blow the freeze plugs out of the back of the block. i have another lower miler engine im gonna install. ill do a video of that hopefully mine is the 5.2 by the way

My 2000 Dakota is doing this, with the no bus. The Fuel Gauge never lifts when its, hung up like this. If I keep turning the key on and off eventually I'll see the fuel gauge come back to life, and then it will start up and run perfectly until the next time. I'm HOPING its the computer messing with the fuel pump and not the other way around. Just ordered a new computer.

hey so i just replaced my computer in my 1999 dodge durango with a 5.9 (360) from nappa new. the last computer was shot. it was in need of a new one hints me replacing it. after replacing my computer with the brand new one i started driving back to the autoparts store for my core charge money back. as i aproched my exit it killed everything gave me the no bus code. this happened 4 times. once to the store and 3 tim es coming home. it triped my brake and abs light after i replaced the computer. any ideas as to why this would happen?

check grounds also on the front of the engine also on each head they have group points n start tracing wires and the connectors to the ecu check the pins I know it's a pain but it's worth a shot
