1998 Ford F 150 park not working fixed (loose shift linkage)

My 10th Gen Ford F-150 XLT wasn't always going fully into park, making a clicking sound while rolling (parking pawls weren't fully engaging onto input shaft of the automatic transmission) and therefore I couldn't trust park, having to use the parking brake. Not to mention the shift indicator was off by nearly a whole gear to the right and needed adjustment.
in this video I show you how to fix both of these issues, no parts required only a few drops of blue removable thread locker to keep the problem from happening again in the future.

Honestly I could figure out all the screws to remove. I pulled 4 and said let's try without. If you ever edit in which screw to remove that would be nice. Thanks again probably saved me $200.

Honestly I really want to say thank you for this video you save me lots of money I have a 1998 Ford Expedition I had the engine rebuilt about 7 years ago since then I've had this problem the mechanic has wanted to charge me over $750 to fix it so I have not but it's always in the back of my mind that it's dangerous I'm afraid it's going to roll away one day kill somebody now I could probably fix it myself for free thanks man

You're very welcome, glad I could help! And It's always cheaper to do it yourself, I was using my parking brake up untill I fixed it myself

Thank you. I was able to tighten it without removing the cover.

Fantastic, I have done that without removing the cover before and I feel it's something I probably should have mentioned in the video. It just made filming so much easier to have it all off

You just fixed my 98 E350. Turn out I was missing one of the screws. No matter how tight I got that bottom screw, it would always slip after a single shifts and leave me using the parking brake. Didn't even consider there would be two of them. Stole one from a non-moving part of the column and I'm back on the road. Thanks!

Brother thank you so much! I thought I was going to have to replace the whole shifter lever when it was just 2 loose screws and an adjustment

Not sure if this is the place for this video but it's the closest thing I found so far. I have an '07 F-150 and this weekend it would not go into park had to turn it off set the parking brake climb underneath it on the ground and turn a nut that I think is attached to maybe a shifter cable which honestly looks like a smooth cylinder rod to me. I don't know car stuff very well I'm learning as I go but if you can give me any advice a dollar direct me to any other videos and how to repair that I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

How to remove and open part under steering wheel?
@zachmeisner
@zachmeisner Год назад
Should be able to do it without removing the cover it just made filming easier, but if you want to remove it there are a bunch of 8mm I believe bolts around the perimeter of the cover, remove all those and it will be off
