Leds are polarity sensitive so before you reinstall your cluster all the way check & see if they're all lit up. if not just pull out the bulb & reinstall it the opposite way. also don't forget to slam a beer once you're done
tilt the wheel down, pull off bottom plastic around steering wheel, unscrew instrument bezel. no need to take the whole dash apart.. you lost me when you took off the stereo bezel
@@chrisolson6518 The millennial detector went bat shit, the most powerful trigger is when a man can only use his hands to ,asturbate asks some else who can do something with his hands to do it for him. Surprised you have a license.
Awesome video! I bought a used 1998 Expedition and none of the cluster bulbs are working and I didn't want to try and figure out how to disassemble the dash on my own. Your video is very clear and concise and has great pointers. Thank you!
Just bought an 1998 f150. All my dash lights are out. So im thinking its a fuse... because in my head no way that many bulbs all go out at once. Reading your comment your saying every bulb was bad when you got the used expedition? I know its been some years hope my comment reaches you
To follow up on my question from earlier, the circuit board film has a greenish tint to it. That results in the green panel tint from standard factory/incandescent bulbs. Just wanted to post this in case anyone else has that same question. Thanks again for the teardown/how-to!
Worked well on my 07 escape only thing is i do not have the bright blue light with factory green tint but bulbs worked well and gave me a teal color ...also changed my blinkers and those were bright...thank you for suggesting those bulbs
I removed many fewer screws than suggested. I did not remove what was referred to as "that plastic thing." A total of 7 screws for the piece above the display and 4 screws for the display. WARNING: My 1997 F-150 headlight switch panel should not be pulled out all at once. First remove the cover. Then there is a black slide to remove the box that contains the connections. I replaced all 5 194 bulbs (2 were burned out) and 19 of the smaller T5 bulbs, all of which appeared good. My original bulbs lasted 27 years. If the replacements last that long they will outlive me.
Thanks for video! I have a '98 with 228K on it and decided it's time to change dash lights. It's running great and puts not a drop of oil on the floor, go figure. I will go with red, 20 years as a firefighter puts red in your system. Again thank you for the video. Hoseman
LEDs mode that I have done have the potential to be lit in only one direction so be careful of this.. it is not just a plug and play. So if some of the bulbs do not lite up. Dont worry to much. Just reverse them. Take them out and turn them 180 degrees and the lite should now work
la verdad hicieron una tranformacion increible en la camioneta ,, tal vez algun dia pudiera hacer lo mismo en mi camioneta . felicidades ala persona que hizo tan increible trabajo ..
i.am.chad.beaty | cinematographer.editor.photographer do you have an updated in your project, planing to do the same in my 98f150, did you run into any complications?
Im 15 just tryna learn the things for my 1997 ford f-150 short bed i got the lights i see vids i just wanna know a better way which this is the easiest appreciate it dawg💯
Black Mickey, you made this video almost two years ago, so I was wondering if the LED's are all still working? After having them for a couple of years now, are you still satisfied with the way they look in your dash?
Yes all the LEDs are still working. Some were flashing on and off occasionally, but that's because I'm an idiot and did not screw them in all the way. Yes I am still satisfied with the look.
Alright so i have a question. I saw that you only replaced the larger bulbs with the black caps which are the 194 led bulbs correct? if i wanted to replace all the other bulbs what size are they? and those are the ones that control blinkers, door ajar, fuel, check engine lights, etc. correct?
Do you happen to know the size/specs of the smaller (not 194) bulbs? After replacing all 4 194s, I still have a dark spot around the 50, 60, 70mph area.
Here is the numbers you needed. 1)10x T5 3-SMD Blue Instrument Panel Cluster Dash LED Bulb Light Lamp 74 70 37 17 2) 10PCS Blue T10 5050 5SMD LED Car Light Wedge Lamp Bulbs Super Bright DC12V
@@SkyHawk2849 Thanks for watching! If the other areas still do not light up, you may have to change out the small ones as well. I changed out all of mine.
Did this mod and nothing! Be careful because not all vehicles are upgradeable. I have a 2002 F150 and there is a green panel inside the cluster ( factory stock ), which prevents the led s from shining through, so we had to take everything apart again and return it to stock configuration.
I have a 2000 Ford F-150. I am replacing the instrument cluster lights with blue T-5 LED bulbs. The T-5 LED bulbs are polarity. When I install a LED bulb in the high beam indicator, I only get the LED to light up when I pull back on the left side turn-signal stalk or lever. When I push the stalk forward toward the dash so that the high beams are on all of the time and also for the high beam indicator light bulb to stay on all the time, I get no LED light at all. When I reverse the LED bulb polarity, I get no high beam indicator light at all in either direction. Does your T-5 LED bulb for your high beam indicator light up in both directions, forward for full time high beam or reverse (towards you) just to flash oncoming cars to warn them of a cop up ahead or whatever? I'm thinking I may have to use an LED bulb that is non-polarity, works in both directions like the factory original bulbs. But I do not see for sell on Amazon or EBay to where you can buy only one LED T-5 bulb that is non-polarity. Let me know on your truck if your high beam indicator light works in both directions (forward and aft or reverse). Thank You!!
Thank you for the video I also have a 1997 F-150. It is the V6. I am still unclear how many lights I need to purchase to swap out the lights behind the instrument panel. You mentioned that you purchased some small bulbs and some large bulbs but how many of each variety? I am presuming five large ones for the black housings. How many small bulbs. Folks mentioned that you missed a light for your fuel indicator. Was that an additional bulb you failed to order or was it simply in backward? Thanks.
Also need to be careful with what lights you use. All those cheap led ones from china you find on ebay will burn out pretty quick and leave a rust residue behind.
Now you tell me. Just changed my 2000 F150 to blue LEDs. I guess I'll be breaking down the dash again to take out that tint. Also, all six of my Illumination bulbs were T10's and not 194s. I didn't have to remove the radio bezel and I just took out the gear selector since my cable was too much trouble to worry with. I had to repair the speedometer, it was going in and out so I decided to change the lights to LEDs. Wasn't bad at all.
@@lanzycribbs8214 i haven't cleaned that out yet since I'll have to remove the needles and peel the gauges overlay in order to clean them properly. You can also find other videos on how to do it. You can do the same for the light's on the heater assembly and it's easier to remove the green tint sheet.
Looks good but there are other lights on the truck that are factory color... well at least there is on mine. The power window switches, cruise control switches, temperature control switches, ect ect. I've got to replace all five on my instrument cluster panel too, do they offer factory white colored Led's? I like Led's they last a long time and i only wanna do this job one time.
Gary Riefle I definitely understand wanting to do the job once. Yes they sell just about any color you want. Here is the white color ones: 10 Pcs Xenon White T10 5-SMD 5050 LED Light bulbs W5W 2825 158 192 168 194 Wedge. I have also replaced my air control dials as some were dead bulbs. Hope this helps :)
Do I have to unplug the negative side of my trucks battery before dismantling into the cluster? People say you need to so you don't get electrocuted or something. Did you do that or did you simply turn the truck off?
Seems like you removed more then you need to. But thanks for the video. Also, when I took mine out I used Meguire's ultimate compound to polish the scratches. Two problems worth noting. The warning lights deteriorated quite a bit. Also LEDs aren't dimmable, so be warned.
Loved this idea, great look, and cheaper than buying new gauges.. awsome walk thru by the way followed step by step an had no issues at all, unfortunately for some odd reason when I installed mine seems like only a few of the new lights worked both w/ the big an small replacement LED bulbs.. I've got seedometer but not tackometer, have the fuel an volts meter but not the temp or oil pressure, and of course the left turn signal works but not the right, plus a few other small indicators... Any idea why this is happening???? Pls help!! Lol
LED bulbs are polarity sensitive so if they didn’t turn on you have to remove them from the bulb holder and rotate 180 degrees then reinsert into bulb holder. That should do it.
Nice video! If I do the replacement using standard white halogen lamps (size 194), will I still see the factory green tint? I actually want to keep the factory tint intact so everything is uniformly lit/colored. Thanks!
Yeah , a lot of work . Just did mine on a 98 f 150 pickup ,no more just reaching behind the dash like back in the 50s or 60s pulling the bulb out and putting a new one in. Haynes truck manuel has good instructions if you can find one that old.
Black Mickey alright cool the leds are on their way I'm gonna try & install this with my dad this week oh and also I only ordered the 10 T5 leds, those only work for the speedometer right ?
Xxthe_best_mwxX Keep in mind it does take some time to install. I don't exactly remember the exact placement of the different lights but that sounds right. I took mine apart to see how many of each led I needed.
Black Mickey okay since I only ordered those type of leds are they only for the speedometer or can I use them for the other bulbs (ex like the fuel gauge)
Hey I think I have the wrong LED lights for the speedometer mine are much smaller and don't have the blue casing around it and the extra light pointing up. I put them on right now and they look green(I limited the sunlight around the windows and made it darker) should I wait till darker to see them ? But I ordered these- 10x T5 3-SMD Instrument Panel Cluster Dash Ultra Blue LED Bulb Light Lamp 74 70 37 17 from amazon
So all you did was put in the blue bulbs and you are good to go? And what if I only replace the black mobs in the back with blue LED and now the small tan ones what would happen?
Chris Hoolahan I replaced all mine at the same time. I believe they all should still work fine no matter which you replace. They are just lights nothing more :)
Black Mickey hey I wasn't sure if you would still be active on this video but since you have commented , what number or what type of LED lights were they ? And where did you buy them ? I'm looking to change them on my truck thanks
I bought both types on eBay. 1) 10PCS Blue T10 5050 5SMD LED Car Light Wedge Lamp Bulbs Super Bright DC12V 2)10x T5 3-SMD Blue Instrument Panel Cluster Dash LED Bulb Light Lamp 74 70 37 17
"Lid" on fuze panel has fuze # and location of said numbers, but the names of said #'s in the owner's manual doesn't readily tell me which one I need to replace... what is the name of the fuze in the owners manual?
The green tint is caused by the very thin electronic board. I imagine that there are different tints, but I am not sure on that. With your LEDs that should change the tint since they are bright enough. I also bought blue since it matched my stereo color.
