Really appreciate all the pos feedback guys! Will be working on a new video in coming weeks. Stoked to be able to share the thump with fellow xr lovers worldwide 🤙🤙
Pretty Hectic Riding Brother! The Old XR's are @ Home in the Bush!! Great to see Someone riding the bike to its Full Potential!! I don't think too many KTM Riders would be going around you in an Enduro or Pony Express! -Cheers 👍🍺
Great bike. I love the throaty exhaust. I know I'm in the minority in the dirt bike world, I would love Honda to put their resources into a real air-cooled aluminum-framed great suspension lightweight simple dirt bike.
This riding was just great. Thankyou. That distinctive sound of an XR is just too good. God dam I miss mine, they cost a small fortune to buy now. Wish I never let it go
Correct, in Europe too. But that's a lot for a decades old dirt bike. So there has to be something about it! Any same age European enduro bike costs you half that or less. I sure do like my 2001 road legal XR400R. Regards from The Netherlands @@corneliusthecrowtamer1937
I just picked up a 98 xr 400r- and I love this vid, and how lucky to have such a killer course to ride! I cant wait to get out! Keep these vids coming dude!
I miss my XR400. Just a fun bike all the way around. They should have updated it with an electric start and kept making them. They should have also made a street legal version in the US too.
All you have to do to make it an E-start is swap the bottom end for a 400ex lower end, and remove air filter from air box to store the battery. But then again if you want e-start, maybe you should consider an atv. If you cant kick the pig over, then it’s definitely not the bike for you. Jus sayin….
@@mxcook134 K&N “sock” filter gets thrown on pumper carb, but then again if you know how to properly jet the “Pig” for elevation, you can also throw it on the stock carb. I can go more in-depth if you’d like? 🏁
Great video. The 98 is my favorite year. Long live the king of the mountains. Even today, these are very competitive bikes, especially with a few tweaks.
AWESOME VIDEO!!!! long live all of the old XR’s! You, sir can ride!!!! I’d love to see someone who discounts the old four strokes stay with you , let alone do it with such finesse. Fine job , my friend! Ride on, ride red!!
Just picked up a 98 XR400....its my first foray into dirt bikes (coming from a Harley fat bob and 72 CB750) and super excited to learn how to ride on dirt and to get the most out of the bike. Great riding!
How many miles and how much? Hope it's doing you good. I'm currently on a '15 yz250, but I don't race and I'm on a race bike... Needing something more all round and most likely plated to get some more seat time. Considering xr400r, drz400, and xr650l.
excellent always wanted one of these bikes. have owned 3 400ex over the years but havent gotten the bike yet. knowing how capable a trx400ex is on the trails..the xr just has to be the king
Bought mine new late 98 still got it, don't ride it much now ,got a dr650 for the same reason they are simple and reliable. the best part about an XR 400 is passing KTM riders, they hate it.
Just got a 99 2 weeks ago for 500 waiting on a throttle cable and it should ride ive started it. had it together last night kicked over for a few second then died so im thinking the carb needs tuned and cables need replaced found a airbox and skid pl8 for 70 bucks almost there
Got the first ride in today she rips. Upon tear down was missing pilot jet ordered a tuning kit off amazon. Had the throttle cables replicated at a local shop after a swing and a miss online. For only 650 in so far not a bad bike got to get the plastics kit and maybe do a full teardown and wreanch rabbit now that i have a runner. Shes leaking oil out the stator wire if anyones seen and dealt with this curious to what you found
that was some fucken amazing riding. say what you will, but no 2 stroke will ever match the deep roar that thing belts out. I'm currently working on my 1979 Honda XL-500s that I've just installed a 97' XR-400R front end on. great video!
I always rode 2 stroke mx bikes, still do. The only 4 stroke bike back in the day I had any respect for were the XR's. I have a 400 EX quad basically the same XR 400 engine in it but electric start. I wonder if my 400 EX engine would fit in an XR 400 frame.
