JAWS ride at Universal Studios Orlando has a malfunction during the final act of the attraction in 1998. Bart the Skipper was great at handling the guests through the unusual experience.
Should have sold the breakdown as a re-enactment from the movie. The shark was always breaking down during the shooting and we wanted to give you the full "filming experience". What an exclusive.
I remember working there, & passing by it at night when the park was closed & they did work on the ride. All the sharks would be above water, & workers in full body rubber swim suits & masks would get in the water. Was told they had to wear the rubber to keep the water off their skin because of all the different chemicals in it, it would cause rashes and stuff. One reason is because of the "oil" leaks (hydraulic fluid). Still was pretty cool to watch, seeing them test all the "machine" jaws.
He wasn't talking about tickets to get back into the park. He was referring to a ticket for your family to re experience the attraction fully without having to wait in line again.
@DailyStorm Actually. I did work for this ride, for about 4 years. What you're saying is actually pretty false. Tower will usually tell us to continue to stall and pace. They might mention us to go ahead and password guests, but it is never suggested to immediately drop show (also. NEVER tell guests that there is an oil leak) and just not even attempt to stall at all. I'm sorry if you were trained improperly and I feel bad for the guests that you stalled for.
Wow! Thats a funny breakdown, not many ppl get them on film! Nice, good job! I love this ride! And you were lucky enough to ride the revised version, which was only 4 years old at the time, too bad its so overused now...
haha sorry about that folks, Jaws isn't really dead, he's just experiencing technical difficulties! ^_^ Yet people still screamed, would be interested to see how they reacted to it, if it was working
The re-built version, they had to remake the ride in 1994 because it was plauged with problems. Mainly the turntable bit during the shark bites boat seen.
that was supposed to be the burnt jaws after it gets electrocuted from that wire that was in the water but you dont see jaws coming up to get electrocuted in this video ::P that was one of the malfunctions
I went on this ride at Universal Studios, and was very disappointed. The only thing I wanted to see on that ride was Jaws but I never even got to see him because he was getting repairs! crossing the bridge I could see cause we were high up that down below was Jaws dismantled head. That ride really wasted my time!
TheSmellymuffin11 the tickets were for the whole family and they didn't need to give them more than one I don't get why people keep complaining about it
@flakelorenz02 I believe in a great show for guests. Of course honesty is important, but IMMEDIATELY when something went wrong he just said "Welp, we're having technical difficulties". Think about it, when a theater performance goes wrong, do the actors come out and say "Oh, well that's messed up, sorry guys". No, you continue the show and only break character if absolutely needed or a long period of time passes. Obviously you have never worked at a theme park.
@Robyns5 It'd be scary if they were able to get the shark to work while the boat was just sitting there. You would have a shark popping out of the water all randomly :O
Is rude if I think ride break down really fasanates me I love to see how they work I got to walk the whole the mummy coaster when it broke down that was really asome
The part where they show that tube the shark is supposed to come out & like bite it and when they show the burnt shark corpse under water it's like the shark after it bit it and got eletricuted or something.
I would've at least played off the shark bit as normally as possible, then acted like I couldn't get the boat into gear like at the boathouse. I dunno, I'd try to cover it up better than this guy.
the shark was smart. he thought back to jaws 2 and said"im not going through that bs again!" so he decided to place a dummy in his place, and swam out to the ocean.
@ZombieOrgasm Unless you worked the ride you don't know what exactly is going on. We're getting reports from the tower in our head phones/ear pierce telling us at that point whether to continue on with our spiel or just let your guests know what's going on and offer a solution to an unfinished ride.
@cblord5 In the ride, he gets burnt up because the "gas station" that you see is suppose to catch fire, and he gets burnt up, and as he comes up to "attack" the boaters, he's all burnt to hell, and "dies" before he can do any actual harm. Back then it was cool to ride these rides, but now they just kinda seem like slow motion animatronics compared to the things made these days. It did break down a bit though.
I have rode it like a bajillion times it has never broken down for me but hey its an experience i know space mountain breaks down every day i have been on it like 5 times and 4 of those times the lights were on and we got stuck on a hill.. but thanks fr the video.
That dam ride always breaks down! That's why you need to train a real shark to eat people. That way you take care of the tech bugs and the population issue. :D
@zombieOrgasm: I don't know what years you worked it but policies changed as the years went on. I was trained by Mimi & Margaret. Stall & pace were most definitely used. Each situation, however, was unique. Unless you were on his boat that day or working Tower, don't judge.
2 Christmases ago, i tried out one of the Air Swimmers...the shark, and after i put all of the electronic parts on it & leveled the shark out, i was in my bedroom at my desk, and it floated towards me and stopped. It did not hit nothing and stop, it stopped on its own, and talk about freaking out?!? LOL That i did! I later sold it. I don't think i'll ever have another Air Swimmers Shark, too damn realistic! ha ha Mine had a brain of its own apparently...like it stopped & stared at me. :-O
Nice way to ruin the fun. When the un-harmed Jaws came up it ruined what woulld happen to all shows they had. The Plan: They use 1 shark to be unharmed and use a 2nd one ot bite the cord and "die". I just noticed that after I saw both sharks. The "dead" one and the "swimming" one. P.S A malfuction happened when i went. When Jaws came to attack us,he got STUCK on the boat. We all were given rubber gloves so we could touch it. XD But it bit my hand.
