@@Cowboy66SEVENBlazer and Explorer of the time didn't fare much better, Blazer is one of the worst along with the late 90s astro van... Only the Jap cars fared best at the time .. The XJ actually does quite well to me for a 15 year old design at the time. Was at least marginal besides the foot well. ZJ did very well compared to it's domestics besides the same footwell issue... Solid axles is to blame for the footwell I'd say. Rather have a broken foot than fall out the opening door mid accident...
@@Cowboy66SEVENand of all the XJs I've looked at in the yards, I have NEVER seen this happen. These tests are not exactly "real world" I have seen some crushed roofs tho. Really they are fairly stout for their size and age overall...
No. Bumper wouldn't do a thing. The frame on these is very wiggly and fragile. Put a cage in something that can't handle the redistribution of forces in a crash will honestly probably make it more of a deathtrap Edit: welding 2 or 3 x braces on the frame and a steel triangle brace below the footwells might help it a little bit in moderate overlap
