Nice interview! 2 legends gone way too soon. My uncle Gary Lucas composed Grace on guitar. Iconic track! 🎸🙌🏾 I invented a new fretboard. Listen to Hallelujah live Chicago solo. You’ll hear Jeff vibrato over edge of fretboard on high E which is essentially what my fretboard design allows on every string.

@@ashleydixon4613 yah he just visited to my area in LA to do a tribute show for Jeff. It was nice to see him it’s been over 4 yrs since we went to the NAMM show together in 2018. People don’t realize that Gary composed Jeff’s biggest songs and got him his record deal. That record wouldn’t exist without his contribution. He really worked to craft Jeff’s style and bring out his full vocal range as he was a bit timid and shy when they met. You can watch the full documentary online. It’s a really cool story and the way it happened was miraculous. I’m sure the record will get more publicity and the song Grace as they recently covered it on the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert with Dave Grohl on drums and Violet Grohl on vocals. The biggest cover ever done of that song and truly did it justice. It’s the top 500 record of all time in Rolling Stone.

@@groovefretboard I specifically think of a short documentary on here about Jeff, with quite a few people speaking on him: from famous Uber-fans like Chris Cornell, Brad Pitt, and Jimmy Page, to individuals who knew him personally: his mom of course, people who’d worked with Jeff, or with his father. Before finally seeing him for the first time at the tribute concert for Tim, one of the organizers had no idea what Jeff looked like, had no idea what Jeff sounded like even, and was afraid he’d miss his performance . Until a singer got on the darkened stage, and was suddenly backlit, the light hitting his cheekbone...the guy said he literally got chills, that it was like seeing a ghost. Your uncle Gary was on there as well, of course, playing “Grace” on his acoustic guitar. ❤️ And you mentioned Jeff being shy: I could easily tell that before I met him. (His making People magazine’s 50 most beautiful list in 1995... although I would certainly agree, he was beautiful inside and out, I’m well aware of how much he would-and did-laugh and roll his eyes at an accolade like that.) The night I saw him at barristers in Memphis, although I sure as hell wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity of speaking to him (especially considering he was literally standing right in my way, where I had to walk right by him, leaning in the doorway leading to the upstairs balcony where we were sitting), I tried to take it into consideration that he obviously had a love-hate relationship with the fame that came with his talent, and immediately did everything I could to reassure him I wasn’t like some groupie. He visibly relaxed when I said, “I swear, I’m not hitting on you, I’m here with my husband and friends- we just love your music, and wanted to come hear what you’re working on for the next album.” The look on my husband’s and friends’ faces when they saw who was coming back to the table with me was priceless! He hung out with us for about half an hour, until time for him to go on stage and seemed very relaxed at that point, mostly chatting and joking around with my husband.
