I was 8 years old and sitting in the turn four terrace when Gordon slowed on the last lap. I was and still am a huge Mark Martin fan and I went crazy that night.
I was 10 years old and at that race with my dad, sitting just before turn 1 I believe, both of us Mark Martin fans. After Mark lost some spots in the pits during the last round of stops, dad said he had no chance. I kept telling dad that Mark was gonna win the race. I'll absolutely never forget my dad putting me on his shoulders for the last few laps and me freaking out when Gordon slowed. Probably a big reason why my dad's hearing isn't what it used to be hahaha
I had Mark for $300 dollars in the race pool. At the race, sitting beside my buddy that had Gordon in the pool. I will never forget that night. At least I bought breakfast the next morning.
Right, this is the poster child race for never giving up and racing for every position like it matters. If Mark didn't go for the pass on Labonte for a meaningless 2nd place, he wouldn't have been in position to win the All-star when Gordon loses fuel.
Outstanding quality of the broadcast 🎙 love the pre and post race interviews! Man those were some gorgeous paint schemes and it was kind of a weird race looking back at all the wrecks and the ending 🏁 Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful NASCAR races 🙌🏼
Jimmy Spencer's No Bull 25 win was the last time the 23 won a Cup event of any kind (points or exhibition) until Bubba Wallace at Talladega over 23 years later. Points wise was Al Keller in 1954.
Those few years when the Winston brought new paint schemes to the cars ( they would have the same livery for the entire season back then) were special! I’m glad to have been a young man then and enjoyed the golden age
Yea, I agree! Dale Earnhardt jr. Talked about how Bud was dead set against any paint scheme changes. They wanted that red, Bud 8 car to always be recognized! Everyone knows who he was sponsored by and his Dad too! The 6 was the Valvoline car and the 2 was Miller. It was always clear. Nowadays, I couldn't tell you who sponsored most cars last season, especially the one or two off schemes!
I don't know "honorable man" is how I would have described him but I do feel Brian France had cooperation from some law enforcement to make him look more guilty..
I wish FOX would do special graphics for lineup for All Star Race like TNN did here. Those computer generated cars in Charlotte Studio would look great for that especially when it returns to Charlotte in future.
This was probably the last great true Winston Cup championship run. Nascar was so fun to watch during this era (It's trash now) I was a diehard Mark Martin fan. he and Gordon destroyed everyone in 98.... they were on fire almost every week
Back when Nascar cared about it's southern fans and didn't compare itself to the NFL, man they boomed! Then they chased that "casual fan" and fell apart..
