My first car was a Chevy Astro and I still love them planning on getting another one all wheel drive I have to admit it's probably one of the best car GM has made as crazy as that sound
that and also because the body structure was strong enough to punch one hole for the door if they did that on the other side too the body structure would collapse
Had the Safari Van about 10 years ago. Put a twin bed in it and lived in it for a few months. About to pickup another Astro Van for hauling some photo equipment. This video brought back some nostalgia, and made me laugh.
I have a 2000 astro van and a 2013 chevy tahoe my kids love the van rather than the tahoe due to space and more confortable seats also love the big glass windows, it's so reliable good on gas ,low maintance and durable I gotta say it's one of the best cars I ever had I love my bucket
Great video ! My parents owned a Chevrolet ASTRO van for many years ( 21 ) and it took us everywhere . The ASTRO replaced our trusty old Pontiac Parisienne station wagon.

My mom had a 97 with AWD and it was awesome. Had it for around 20 years. When we used to go to the beach every year with another family, we definitely fit more than 8 people in that thing (but had 2nd row bucket seat so only legally 7 but probably got 12 people in). Learned to drive in it, hated the floaty feeling of it but its a van on a truck frame in the 90s, so par for the course. My mom was heartbroken when she traded it in but the sliding door was getting very worn and would have been expensive to fix and it had a few other minor problems on top of that. Super reliable though. Engine never broke down or needed an expensive fix. It had a loud rattle at one point but my great uncle who worked at a local garage fixed it and the rattle never came back. I worked for that garage years later and learned the rest of the story from the owner. Apparently my great uncle revved the absolute hell out of the engine until there was a bang and the noise stopped. Ran solid for another 10+ years until my mom traded it in 😁
My family had an Astro for a long time, although it may've been a newer model. I have some great memories of us going to the store, or looking at Christmas lights in that van, and definitely miss it. We've had it gone for about 4-5 years or so now, but the memories will always remain with me.
Enjoyed the video and yes I have a ‘97 awd and with a daughter who plays softball have heard ALL the jokes about being a molester with soft serve ice cream and zip ties in the back lol...oh, the 90’s vans that were referenced about only having the doors on the passenger side were often for safety. Only allowed kids to get out of the van on the sidewalk side, not the road side....Paul
I love and hate my 2000 Astro AWD. It's a joy to drive because it's such a comfortable ride. On the flip side, repairs and maintenance can be a major pain in the ass. Especially if you have to access the engine from the inside.
I need help with my 1999 Astro Chevy van I just put a ful pump in the gas tank and I don't hear the new pump coming on I don't hear a buzz when you turn the key on so my question is I don't know if the pump makes some kind of noise should I be able to here some kind of sound when you turn the key on ? I appreciate your feedback with this thanks Hammer
I like your comment you dont really sit in an astro van you sit on top of it . I have an astro van its not really uncomfortable but strangely ackward to sit in lol.
Hello, yes, I have driven a 1999 Chevrolet Astro LS since I was 16. My back doors are different, and I replaced the sound system, but everything else in this review is stupid accurate. It’s been totaled twice and still gets me anywhere I want to go. We love a party van!
RWD is only the rear wheels get power from the engine, the front wheels basically just sit there and turn. AWD sends power from the engine to all 4 wheels, which is better for driving in situations where there is less grip (snow, mud, etc) but AWD usually gets worse gas milage than RWD, and AWD has more parts that can break.
