Nothing beats a first gen Durango. Got my 2001 with 88,000 miles since new. Currently based on average mileage my 2001 will hit 200,000 miles in 2046. Your Durango is a beast sir.
My Dad had a 99 Durango SLT 4x4 5.9l V8 Magnum n I'm grateful that I got it from Him for $500 n I've seen Her go through a lot n glade I know what always needs updating!!
Really nice build - very inspirational! The first generation Durango's are most true to the name, the later generations are just too "domesticated." You really took this Durango to the next level - thanks for posting!!!
Just drove my $600 ran when parked Durango 12 hours first time and it ran like a dream .. used a lot of gas but in was pulling a closed trailer with a light load
These durangos are solid! I have a 2003 184k plus miles and I love it. I'd like to find a good mechanic to go over it, repair a couple of leaks and update it overall. it could use a new paint job and nice tires. I drive it most of the time. Mechanics around here are not much help, that's why I do a lot of my maintenance. They look at mileage and say, just drive until it dies! That's not what I want to hear! thanks for the video!
Thats a good looking old durango! Nice video to thanks for sharing! I picked up a 98 durango myself a few months ago and saved it from the scrap heap as well. Payed $350 for it and got a clean title. It had been wrecked and i had to throw a radiator and some freeze plugs in it. Fired up and runs pretty good for sitting 5+ years in the woods. 250k on the 318 V8 but still turns pretty well. I did torsion keys and shackles and found some SxS tires 32x10x15 for the stock wheels. Mega Motos kind of look like cryptides. Haven't been stuck yet! Next I am replacing the worn out front end parts, new cv axels, extra trans cooler and a locker for the rear. Then it will be next level!
Thanks man I really appreciate it. If you look around you can get these babies for a good deal and it doesn’t take much to get em fixed up nice. Because of the issues with the new cars right now you can flip these for a pretty penny if you want to. Good luck with your rig, sounds like you got a good deal and will be pretty sweet when done.
My 99 is the same color.. and looks like we're going for similar build almost! Would like to pick ypur brain sometime about things you've done and see more of your build
Picked up 2002 for $4000. and spent $4000 on rust repair. Dodge 5.9 L with headers and low KM 160,000 . Full time AWD. I am considering adding functional hood scoop for water crossing. Not a snorkel. Plan to add heavy bumper and winch. Also after market back up camera. Good for winter in Canada. Would consider adding HHO fuel to intake for low emissions burn and reduced gas
Hey have you done your front bumper yet? If so, what did you go with? I'm on the verge of going with the Affordable Offroad for my '02 but would love to consider others if I could find them. Thx
Dude... great video.. ive got a 2000 rango and these kinds of videos help give me ideas of what to do to mine. You've got yourself a good looking rig. Totally digging the set-up.
Ive been a long time fan of the1st gen Durango Platform. 99s are great, most options for aftermarket support. Im getting ready to regear to 4.56s and lunchbox lockers front and rear. At least thats the plan. Not a lot of info on that Dana35 front...if the carrier is 1.5" I should be good to go. I'll give a sub. Be interesting to see what direction you take your 99.
Thank you so much. I’m in the middle of a move but once I get settled in I will be posting more vids. I love this year too because you don’t see a lot of them out there done up like this. My only regret is not doing vids of the whole build from the beginning.
I put a power trax no slip in my 98. It Performed great, pretty unstoppable. There are no instructions for instal on a D35 IFS. The cross pin has to be drilled for a tension pin retainer (dont use the factory spider gear cross pin not as strong) also do not re install the e clips that hold the axle shafts in. I did then realised they cannot be removed (again no instructions) do this will render the diff unservicable.
I have a 1988 Ford f150 4 wheel drive long bed pickup truck and I'm trying to figure out how to build my truck out so I can pull my travel trailer and also go off road because it's four wheel drive maybe you can help me figure out to put on there
I think it was this one. Universal LED Light Bar Mounting Brackets A Pillar Hood Work Light Clamp Holder Mount 304 Stainless Steel for Car Offroad Jeep Truck SUV 4x4 2PCS www.amazon.com/dp/B07TYD1TX8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_A5252AKFZXBEAGXQYAB9
I hope you're still answering questions! I have a 99 SLT+ with a 5,9. Mine has 31 x 10.5 x 15 Cooper tires. I'd love to go to 33x12.5 tires. Did you have to install a lift kit to get enough clearance with no tires rubbing? Would they rub if off road on a trail or beach sand (Surf Casting this summer). Thanks for any guidance you can offer! Yours looks great. I have rust around the rear wells. NY salted roads when it snows.
I think your gonna have to lift it. Even after I lifted mine I had to cut the front bumper a little before I put the aftermarket bumper on because it was rubbing.
What was it you said about the lift .. I need to lift my 2001 and get some sweet tires and wheels .. paid 600$ Ran when parked And I've done zero work to it she runs great
I've got my bucket o' bolts 99 durango I bought for $500. Im turning her into my winter beast. Its the 5.3 4x4 with 257k miles. Stupid question but towing anything shouldn't b an issue right?
Nice pick up!!!! My 98 Dodge Ram has that motor and has 213,000 miles and is doing well. It’s tired though, I just moved recently and towing my trailer really wore her out. I have never towed with my Durango though but I have seen people say they towed with the Durango with no issues. I’m sure yours will do well all depending on what you plan on towing. I probably wouldn’t tow a car but a small boat or trailer should be fine.
Use VIN code to check factory recommendations for engine and suspension capacity. If you pull heavy loads, take it slow to reduce stress on the power train. Trans temperature ,oil and engine cooling becomes critical with heavy use. Also have high grade synthetic oil for winter use. .
Hey im in the market for a front bumper and was wondering what brand that one was. Ive been looking at some and havent really been satisfied other than one that I saw and yours.
I don’t know if you’re still answering people or not but I have a 98 Durango 4x4 SLT model I just did a 2 inch shackle and 2.5 inch key lift. Do you think I can clear 285/70r15 or 33x12.50r15s?
@@toocoolforschool3221 thankyou, I had 31s on there when it was stock for years never rubbed or anything I heard some people saying they could run 33s stock but I didn’t know maybe with some trimming but anyways did you have to trim on the plastics in the fender towards the doors?
No I only had to trim on the plastic on the bumper. Not too much. The tires do rub a little on the frame at full turn but not much. I don’t even notice it I can just see the rub marks on the frame
Update: I got 33x12.50r15s on my Durango with off set American racing rims and it looks sweet I’m still debating on changing out headlights/taillights and a winch bumper also where did you get mounts for the pod lights on the hood?
I got it off Amazon. I can’t remember exactly which one it was but this one looks pretty similar. 7BLACKSMITHS Black Roof Rack Cargo Basket Carrier Rack with 64" x 39" x 6'' Universal Extension Car Top Luggage Holder SUV Truck Cars a.co/d/0BLG3PS
I put new torsion keys in but you can lift it up some even if it’s stock. If you go under the truck follow the torsion bar to just about the middle of the truck and you will see a bolt. If you turn the bolt it will raise or lower the front end depending on which direction you turn them. There are two, one for the right side and one for the left side of the front wheels. Make sure you keep track of how many turns you do so you can have the same on both sides and you will probably need an alignment afterwards. Let me know if this helps.
@@toocoolforschool3221 thank you for telling me. I want to do the same thing on my 99 Durango but I'm not sure what shocks to get to support the 2 - 3 inch lift for the front and back
I have a 2007 Durango 2wheel drive with 4.7 liter v8 an I want to build it make it a bad azz rally truck or sleeper race truck I got it was in a fender bender for $300 an Itonly needs a driver fender a front bu.per ab headlight an maybe a grill but I want to make it truly bad ass have fun with it an then sell it
That’s the exact kit I bought. It was a lot less when I bought it a couple years ago but everything is up now. The rims are old and I can’t find them anywhere. I’m trying to find 1 for a spare but haven’t had any luck.
I custom pieced my lift together on my durango was able to get almost 7 inches. If I did SD trucks rear spring and A -Arm drop due to torsion bar setup I could push it to probably 10.5 or 10. I have 33s on my durango I could easily fit 35s if I really want to push it maybe 37s. But regear would be absolutely neccessary.
Not really. I moved long distance so that took a while and when I finally got moved in the Durango started acting up. I got it running though, turned out to be the computer. I’m thinking of doing a video of installing the light bar. And I’m also thinking of putting on a matching rear bumper. What kind of plans do you have for yours?
@@toocoolforschool3221 I’d like to put some trophy tuck style suspension bore and stroke the motor and turbo it or supercharge it old completely yet but then want to make it a bass suv so I can do a mix of stuff with it
Nice ''Rango I've got 99 5.9 In intense blue pearl Just bought some new kenda klever mt2 nubbys It has the same custom headlights Im shopping for shackles and keys That's why I'm watching this I plan on a adding a grill bar and roof rack , and I might even delete my climate change hoax device and let it exhale better
Very cool! They are good trucks and easy to work on. I could proabably get rid of my smog stuff too, where I live you only have to smog it when you first buy it then you are good until it’s sold again.
