Coming from a guy that owned a Town Car for a while, a used Lexus LS does it all better. They're extremely soft but not sketchy in a crash or in emergency handling situations. That being said, Panther cars are truly the last of an era and if you like the idea of owning part of that, go for it.

I wonder why Crown Vics are so much more popular than Mercury Grand Marquis & Mauraders, even though it's probably easier to find a low mileage, dealer serviced Mercury given the "youthful" owner demographic of the Mercury compared to most Crown Vics being "well used" to say the least? 🤔

I drove from Ohio to Michigan every week for almost 4 years in the mid 2010’s. The Michigan miles were insane on my poor Subaru. The 4.6 is such a great engine. I’ve got a 98 GT. I’d rather have something underpowered that can make it to 500k miles than some unreliable turd that has a 0-60 that is 1 second faster. Plus the 2v 4.6 sounds really good for what it is. I’m a huge fan of an h-pipe with straight through mufflers

"I'd rather have something underpowered that can make it to 500k miles than some unreliable turd that has a 0-60 that is 1 second faster." In one single sentence you just described everything that's wrong with the modern Ford company. In these trying times, absolutely nobody with half a brain will take a risk of a car that won't make it hundreds of thousands of miles. Which is why Ford is constantly breathing it's dying breath, only to be saved by chicken taxes and "American jobs" excuses.

I had a '95 Crown Vic LX, red with a red interior. I loved that car and have always regretted trading it when I did. I have always wanted another one - but would also take a Grand Marquis or Town Car. I love the first gear whine and 1-2 shift along with the hum of the V8. All of the Fords I had in the late 90's - early 2000's - had a shudder in the transmission after about 40K miles. It occurred in 3rd and 4th gears and sometimes caused eratic shifting, so they need a transmission service at that 40K mark, new fluid, etc. That solves the problem. It occurred in my Crown VIc, my '98 Windstar and '00 Taurus. Just something to keep in mind. Ford gave the CV their last update for the 2003 models. They got a slightly revised suspension, rackk and pinion steering, and an updated instrument cluster with a tach, although I prefer the pre-2003 dash because they had full gauges, not idiot lights. Could never see the point in having a tach in an automatic trans car. I have not driven one of these so don't know how much of a difference there is in driving one vs. one prior. Lastly, I grew up with RWD and prefer it to FWD or AWD. I had a set of studded snows on the Crown and never had any issues getting around. Anyway. love your reviews. Keep up the good work!

This particular Crown Victoria was originally shipped and sold to Norris Ford which is now Liberty Ford Brunswick. Located at 3101 Center Rd. Brunswick, OH. Crazy to imagine all that car for under $30k in 1999. My, how times have changed😌 This review/drive was very awesome! The build quality, interior, and sounds of an older vehicle are truly left to be cherished by those who appreciate them. No matter if it's a make/model that we liked or not, the changes in time and design languages truly speak volumes as we're into the 21st century and beyond. It's truly remarkable to see the progress or some would say digress in automotive design. The ol 4.6 Ford V8 is something to behold in today's EV forward automotive societal norm. The ol girl rides graciously down the road, and doesn't even bat an eye doing the job it was intended to do, effortlessly. I hope the owner continues to keep the passion, and dedication alive for his lovely, all original Crown Vic clad in Vibrant White. You can truly see the joy and serenity had between you two as you cruise and chat on about the legendary model. Most of these are often seen as Police Interceptors, cruisers as such with blacked out rear panels, and an occasional spot light adhered to the left drivers side, not this one. Truly as if it rolled off the showroom floor, fresh as a daisy.

The horsepower was increased to 224 horsepower within the next year or two. If anybody's wondering the police, interceptor did not increase the horsepower, barely it increased it to 250 horsepower. And it increased the torque by 15. Not much of an upgrade but definitely way better than 200. Or at the time 2:24. So that's going to be a 26 horsepower increase and a mile per gallon increase.

I had a 2003 beige Crown Vic. My mom called it the Land Yacht. Great car. Can fit multiple bikes in the huge trunk. Got six people in it more than once. Got it to over 200k miles, but blew out an ignition coil in the mountains on my way to Yosemite. Tried getting a new plug and coil, but the plug wouldn't thred into the head. All mechanics shops were closed, and they couldn't see me for three days (it was the beginning of a holiday weekend). Luckily, a customer in the auto parts store said he would re-tap it for me for free, but that it wouldn't be a precision job. Well, he succeeded and the car ran fine for the rest of the trip. Unfortunately, the re-thread job was not perfect, so it kept blowing ignition coils. I took the head off to see if there was enough metal left on the head to get it re-threaded at a machine shop, but sadly there was not. Instead of buying a new head and gaskets and everything (this was several years ago when used cars weren't expensive) I gave up, put all the parts I took off into the truck, and put it up for sale. A dude drove 4 hours with a trailer to pick it up, with engine parts still in the trunk. I got $500 for it which I was happy with. Lots of good memories in that thing. Glad its still on the road.

The Panther platform was my childhood with all the taxis I took with my dad, I never knew how good I had it until I became a car guy 😆 now I’m actively looking for a cheaper car once I finish school and I can’t go wrong with this

It's refreshing to see a young enthusiast taking pride in a vehicle that was never intended for his demographic. Most people my age or younger wouldn't even look twice at a Crown Vic unless it's a decommissioned cop car. The civilian models were purely made to cater the elderly and didn't have youth in mind. But it's nice to see someone break the norm and have a true appreciation for this car and will take as good of care of it as the original owner. I'm one of those young enthusiasts as well. I'm the only one in the family that has a soft spot for the Panther platform. I would love to drive one long distance. I only drove a Grand Marquis to park it in a different spot as a porter many years ago but that wasn't enough to get a feel for the car.

I've been in the back seat these for 2 different short drive field trips in school and they were both police cars and still used by the department. I still remember how they ride and they are comfortable. As a gamer, I get PTSD from them being behind me, I out ran everything from a Chevorolet Impala, to BMW to Lamborghini police cars but was never able to shake off the Crown Victoria easily no matter what I was in. Whatever it is you want from a Crown Victoria, it will always exceed expectations ❤️

My 2000 Grand Marquis had 27000miles on it back in 2018 when I bought it, now it has about 40000miles. It is all original and its my daily driver, I drive about 3000miles per year in it. And the fun thing is that there is about 20 Grand Marquises in Finland.

Personally I'd steer clear of police versions. Mileage is generally not a concern until that mileage is cold start, flatfoot the throttle, WOT pursuits, hard starts, hard stops, idling all day and night. The hour meter will tell that tale. It's easy to find these as condo cars with NO miles and never parked in the sun. I got a 2004 Town Car that way. Silver and flawless 2 owner for 3200 bucks.

Love these cars and can't wait to own a second! Have a 2001 Grand Marquis LS, just got done doing timing chains over the weekend! Added a rear swaybar earlier this year. I prefer the 98-02 , something about the way these cars drive with the steering box feels "right" to me. Objectively better is the rack and pinion in the 03+, but it just doesn't feel like a boat. To what you said about getting car sick - mine has good shocks and my dog hates to ride in it. I think too plush? If I take out the back seat bottom cushion she will ride back there. Mine has been great in the snow. 180 pounds of weight in the trunk and some skinny snows and it passes everything.

I've had 1 town car and 4 Crown Vics. I have 0 complaints and I put thousands of miles on my car a year. I gave my Town Car to my dad with 350k and today that car still purrs with 380k. I bought an 08 Crown Vic and ran the miles up on that. I got rid of it at 245k. I accidentally won another 08 Crown Vic at auction with 145k now I'm at 171k and I got it a little over a year ago. But man I miss that floaty town car, night and day difference between a 1996 town car and a 2008 cvpi but at least the cvpi handles better around curves and in wet weather lol. I have never had a major mechanical failure out of any of my panthers.

The highway patrol in Colorado used these for decades. They put snow tires on all 4 wheels and they were able to patrol all the mountain passes in the worst snow storms.

These Panther platform Fords are the last and ultimate full-size, body-on-frame American sedan, a lineage that stretched back to the 1950s. This formula, which no longer exists in modern cars, was basically perfected by the time Ford built these in the late 1990s. They were supremely affordable, comfortable, practical, and reliable, the result of a manufacturing system that had been slowly tweaked and perfected for decades. In many ways they have still not been bettered. Even the handling is not as bad as one would think particularly on air suspension models. I'm convinced that most people if given the chance to try out a nice Panther like this one would favor it over their current bloated marketing-designed appliance car.

I always wanted the police interceptor too, but I gotta tell you, those things are rough around the edges, the back seats virtually unusable, and often require lots of maintenance despite the crown vics good reputation of reliability because they were used and abused. A clean one like this is far more usable, but with the same style. In south florida atleast, a clean crown vic is incredibly rare, usually the only clean examples are grand marquis

My friend's grandfather passed away recently and as we were cleaning out his house in the garage was a Crown Vic covered in an inch of dust. I asked him what he was going to do with he said I don't want it, it's yours for $500. Unbelievably I opened the door and the car start it right up I then realized I was the owner of a 2004 Crown Vic LX Sport 😁. 97,000 original miles perfect condition everything works. If you're not aware of this model very few people are it's pretty much a Ford Maurader. One of 3,235 made in 2004. What I really like about it is how many young guys such as Paul come up to it and admire it. Nice to see they're into some Old School Detroit iron instead of tin can import fart knockers 😋
