@midrangetorque
@midrangetorque 5 лет назад
flipnotrab Agreed that drugs won’t improve hand eye coordination. They didn’t use drugs for that. Drugs weren’t needed for that. Drugs was the difference between a 300 ft fly ball and a 350ft+ homerun. The difference between a 350ft homer and a 400ft homer, and so on. Big homers and plenty of homers got you big contracts too. Drugs helped your strength, muscle fibers, and “quick twitch” muscles. Baseball is a game of inches right? Well, if you’re juicin’ and extra strong with a quicker than avg bat, you can wait a tick longer for a pitch which in turn lets you see the ball for a tick longer. It’s similar to seeing 95+ mph as if it were 85-90 mph...because their added strength & power allows them to wait longer. In baseball, that’s a huge difference!

@bobbyowsley4604
@bobbyowsley4604 5 лет назад
@@douglas61920 I agree that the reason is obvious, but the definition of cheating is slightly skewed here as well. For one, there wasn't a rule against anabolics in baseball at that time. For another, MLB - the curators of the HOF - didn't seem to care one iota if those guys were dropping syringes next to the bat donut in the on-deck circle before every at bat. Baseball cashed in on "the chase" and promoted the living daylights out of it to breathe life back into the game even when it became apparent that something was afoul. Not one, but TWO guys zeroing in on the single season HR record at the same time? They knew and they were all too happy to hide behind the lack of a specific rule against it. In fact, it wasn't until Canseco's book came out that baseball really felt pressure from Congress to institute rules.

I agree. I was a huge baseball fan back then but never in my life have I cared much about any sport at all since then. Mostly every sport in the world has its viewer appeal enhanced by benefits of steroids and it would be better off accepted.
