When you work on something for many hours, then put it back together and it runs beautifully, that is a wonderful sound. You have skills way beyond the average mechanic working at a motorcycle shop.

Thanks, I don't know about that, I can spend the time on the job, where shops cannot. Dealers and most independent shops have to keep volume up to survive, get work in and out as quick as possible.

4.23.23. Last summer I bought a spare set of carburetors for my 1985 GL 1200 four-cylinder Gold wing, from eBay. I soda blasted and ultrasonic cleaned The spare set of carburetors, I also put in Randakk’s rebuild kit for the GoldWing, I purchased a Digi-Sync, Digital Peaking Manometer for a six cylinder engine. I also changed the sparkplugs, plug wires and caps. I was stunned at how well the engine started and ran afterwards‼️ I went out to the Black Hills in South Dakota late last September early October, and when I got back the bike idled as if I just tuned it with that Digi-Sync™️.

Thanks- these bikes will always be popular some of us, but the crafters are few & far between. My local Honda dealer wont even look at mine.

Good job, informative video. On an unrelated topic, you asked me about " BrakeCrafters" Brake pads. They just sent me EBC pads for my Honda, just an FYI .

Picked up a 99’ Valkyrie from its original owner, 4k miles, garage kept, sitting the past 4 years. Was relieved to come across your channel and see both Valkyrie series. I’m 26 and have learned a lot working on my 03’ vtx1800 but have minimal experience with carbs (just yard equipment and dirt bikes) definitely intimidated going into this. Would you suggest leaving the carbs together if they are functional?

Thanks for watching, please consider subscribing/liking/sharing. I would say definitely, if it's not broke, don't fix it. However, they won't last forever the fuel joints, o-rings and such, so one could argue just get it out of the way and done now, but without some experience especially on these, again, I'd say let sleeping dogs lie. Cheers.

Well done. There is no money to be made on a job that never ends. I hate it when that happens. What do you charge for a job like this?

I just picked up the exact same (non-running) bike. Looking forward to the project. Where in Florida are you, I’m in Ocala

Bradenton. You’re likely going to have to source carb parts elsewhere I just was inquiring with Rich at Red Eye Technical, he has no full carb kits and doesn’t look like he’ll be making any anytime soon.

Always like watching your carb balancing videos Tom, seeing someone spending time getting them very close and the bike running nice and smooth, and responsive too. One question though, how accurate do you think the carbs are when the bike comes off the production line, as the line workers can't spend as much time as yourself to set them correctly? 🤔.

I’ve asked myself the same question from time to time, I think the answer is self evident, seeing just about everybody back then almost immediately made changes to jetting and exhaust trying to tune out the factory flat spots.

@@MotoRestoFL thanks for your reply. I guess so, set it to a base setting and then just send it out.

@@shaunhardie6077 I think it’s more emissions based settings. Even back then they had to lean them out big time.

you bench synch the thingie magigies before you install them? also, when you use the lexan and vacuum pump, do you use any grease to seat the gasket to the lexan? I been riding v-four bikes for 3 decades and love em, I use the Morgan carb tool and love it too. Peace
@MotoRestoFL
@MotoRestoFL Год назад
Yes. No grease or sealer on the gaskets.

I enjoyed your series and learned quite a bit. Thank you for posting these videos. I have a question for you as a mechanic. I have the same bike right down to the color. I bought it a month ago, it fires up and runs fine but has an electrical issue of sorts. The center display, Speedo, and tach all backlight up but nothing works. All lights work otherwise but nothing in the center works other than backlighting. Any ideas where to look first?
@MotoRestoFL
@MotoRestoFL 5 месяцев назад
Ah. Easy one. There’s two pain in the ass small connectors on the right side of the forward aspect of the fuel tank. They’re usually tucked away behind the tank but you can usually see the wires. Those connectors are horrible and easy to break the lock tabs. Most likely the connectors are loose or unplugged. You may have to pull the tank to check. Those connectors really suck. Those connectors feed the display.

It was when I spoke with the customer several weeks after doing this work. I don’t know now as that was months ago. I can check and possibly put you in touch with him if you’re really serious. I get many inquiries about various things where I expel time and energy, then never hear anything again. So if you are serious, email me at motorestofl@gmail.com with your name and phone and meanwhile I’ll check with the customer/owner. I don’t mean to be a dick about it but time is money. Thanks for the comment.

I don't see the point of that bike, so much stuff nailed to it you may as well have the wing.
