2000 Honda GL1500C Valkyrie Power Cruiser get the left fork seal replaced. We will be removing, dismantling and rebuilding the left fork. On this model the forks are different internally so we made separate videos on the left and right sides.

Thank you very much, I reviewed this video from end and while doing my front left . I couldn't have done it without it

Installed those tie downs on the rear case guard bolt. I put wood blocks under the engine and tighten the bike down using 10" turnbuckles with jam nuts.

Excellent information. I have a 1999 Valkyrie with 15000 miles on it. It sat in a trailer in florida for 10 years and it was a job getting it road worthy. Now all good but one fork seal leaking so I just ordered the seals. Thanks for your education on the process.

Thanks for the great video. The Honda dealer that sold me my 1999 Valkyrie Interstate will not work on my bike anymore. They say it is too old. After watching your video I may try replacing the seals myself.

Good fix to break the castle nut loose: a vise helps. You and a friend place flat head screwdrivers on opposite sides and tap them at the same pace with a hammer. Be gentle but it does work.

Crazy how many things are similar to the 69 sandcast CB750 I had years ago. Did everything under the sun to that bike. Fork seals more than once, triple tree bearings, swing arm bearings motor rebuild at 57,000 and on and on. Should have held on to that one. Sold it in the early 80's with over 100K on the speedo!!!

Thanks for the video. I’m considering buying a 2000 Valk for ~$3000 (most here are over 6). Seller says there’s a leak in the forks and is providing the parts as well. Looks fairly straightforward (which means it must be a good video!)

Unfortunately he skips over the toughest part of the job where you need to use a special tool.
@wildbill5670
@wildbill5670 3 года назад
I've noticed that the factory tightens those allen bolts to the point of where another foot pound or so and my allen wrench would just spin around and strip out the bolt head which would mean big time trouble.
@RaymoreRepair
@RaymoreRepair 3 года назад
I agree. When my allen sockets start to get a little rounded I use a grinder and square them back up.
@wildbill5670
@wildbill5670 3 года назад
Ya, I bought the specaial socket with the four square tabs to get that special nut off from 4:13 (you never did show how you broke that loose). If I hadn't bought the special 4 tab socket (43.5mm) i would have ruined that special nut trying to drift it counter clock wise with big screw driver and a hammer. That thing was super tight. I thought the socket would fail before it came loose. I just noticed that you not only showed how you broke that loose or how you tightened it back on. What weight oil did you put in?
@RaymoreRepair
@RaymoreRepair 3 года назад
Wild Bill, I had made a tool to do this job. It is a little janky so I did not show it. I used 10 weight fork oil and it has the originals springs.

@@RaymoreRepair Thanks for the reply. If I hadn't found the tool, I was going to make one out of a steel pipe. 1 3/4" OD. I was going to get a piece about 4 to 6 inches long. Wrap one layer of masking tape around the end of it. Set it on top of the spanner nut ,mark on the tape where the notches were and take out the metal between the marks to about 1/4" deep leaving just the metal that would go into the notches in the spanner nut. Then turn it with a pipe wrench. Actually I still had to turn the special socket I bought for this with the pipe wrench because that shaft that the top cap is attached to (with the lock nut below) had to go through the square ratchet hole in the socket. But it worked fine. Tool was from Motion Pro part #08-0575. Thanks again. God bless.

Thanks for the video I just did both forks on my Valkyrie. One thing I will suggest is to buy the special tool needed, there was no way It was coming off with a screw driver like yours(im sure you used the tool then used the screwdriver to take off) I was thankful that the honda shop let me use their tool. 👍

Question. Since there is no damper in the Left fork. What does the oil do for that side? I notice it calls for more oil on the left then the right.
@RaymoreRepair
@RaymoreRepair 2 года назад
The oil keeps everything lubricated and the level is important in the bottom of the fork stroke. The more oil the less air there is in the fork to compress. This means the fork will not bottom out as easily.

Sir, you did as many do; you didn’t show installing the part that has all the spring tension. How did you man handle it down ? Don’t chince out on the hardest part that the masses need to see. Don’t mean to be rude, but I feel it needed to be said.

Got a question for you. Yes, I'm back on the Valkyrie. What is more important fork fluid wise? The amount or the level? I just put the 22 1/2 ounces of fluid per the manual in the right fork. It then says the fluid level should be 5 1/3" down from the top of the fork tube. I put the 22 1/2 ounces in and the fluid level is over 6" down. Suggestions? Thanks my friend.

This is misleading people about the special nut on this left side fork. The nut is very tight and requires the Honda special tool or a good special tool needs fabricated. You kind of just skip over this and I’m sure it has got people in trouble. Not a very good way to help people when you do not explain the most important part of the seal replacement.
@RaymoreRepair
