I have a red 2001 2.0 automatic beetle with 98,900 miles and I thought the rpm was to high thank you your the only one that had talked about this from all the other videos I’ve watched.
I have one - a '99, GLS, blue! Mine is still pretty good all things considered. BTW, the E-brake light and ABS lights may be associated with an ABS failure - check the in-dash fuse box (cross check with the owner's manual). Of course, the ABS is not a really critical system, but I would get it working again, unless your girlfriend is a good enough driver to know how to deal with wheel locking in the rain. It's a safety concern.
Just had same dash light problems until it fried all the wiring. Cause: someone who didn't know how to clear the ABS code tried and boom! A new ignition switch cured the gremlin. Next your fans won't turn and then the turn signal. And air bag. And it will run better when it's repaired.
I've rode in my friends 04 beetle and its the exact same color as this one, and i can agree, it is cramped, but I'm more looking forward to riding in my other friends 09 beetle with the 5 cylinder I've heard its got wayyy more pickup to it
I've watched tons of videos and read multiple articles on this car, all have had alright to good reviews, high safety rating for the size and build of the car. I feel that you either got a poorly made version or you have WAY to high expectations for what the car main function is for. This is really a gentle car, not a race car. You can't diss a car just because its paint is a bit off, which is what you mostly discuss.
Or I'm just not an idiot/an outdated and sponsored review that has to be positive. I know what a beetle is and what it should be like (I own a 71 convertible). At no point in the video did I say the car was unsafe (these are German and insanely safe, this one had been in a horrible accident at some point in its life and was still fixed and alive) nor did I ever say it wasn't fun to drive. These cars stay planted on the road and have great steering feel. I just lived with MULTIPLE real world examples of this car and like most older German cars they're insanely unreliable, expensive and complicated to fix and just do not stand up well over time inside and out.. I'm an automotive technology major with years of experience in the industry and know many people that would agree with me on the fact that these are some of the worst cars out there you can buy.
@@Jakeman21642 son, I am 43 years old and have bought, sold, traded, built, and raced more cars in a week's time than your little "college experience" will ever ever ever be able to supply to you. And EVERYONE in the automotive community would not agree with your horrible understanding of German built cars. They are highly over engineered, last forever, and actually are some of the easiest cars to work on (almost child/idiot proof, you know, like yourself). And 3500 revs at 70 miles an hour is "a bit high"? Are you high? 🤣 Or maybe just don't know jack about cars because you're girlfriend got this car for her 16th birthday, so unless your a pervert, you yourself is also very very young and dumb, and have a shit ton to learn about cars, the automotive industry, and how to identify what a "quite bad accident" you attempted to show us in the video. Bro, 1) missing headrest have zero to do with this, what you think the flew out the back seat when the car got hit 😆 2) the area inside the truck under the carpet where you showed it was "molded back together" that's actually called seam caulk and is used on all hidden areas of body work from the factory, and is every trunk in every car in the world. 3) the cracked license plate light, would be non existent in a really bad accident, slightly cracked/shattered like this one indicates a very slow 5ish mph backing into something or being rear-ended in a drive-thru restaurant style of "as minor of an accident as you could have" type of collision. Also the re-spray that far up into the rear of the car only means the body paint guys did a poor attempt at blinding the paint, or maybe they did a fine job and your just nit picking (because we couldn't see any difference in the actual video (which shows you have shit tons to learn about audio/visual recording/editing to help you produce a product that isn't trash, unlike that fine little automobile your girlfriend's parents bought her, knowing she will most likely wreck being her first car, or her dumb ass boyfriend will wreck knowing she is to stupid to keep your ignorant ass from driving, so they got her a car can be considered "just nice enough to enjoy and learn a few lessons in, but not so nice that it would hurt the the wallet if/when she or her moron boyfriend undoubtedly wreck and total it. 😉 Because trust me, once you fuck up her first car, she will learn a valuable lesson about trusting cocky little shitheads that are still wet behind the ears, and that son, is very very smart parenting 😏 Man oh man how it must feel to be so blissfully ignorant to real world experience and knowledge. I found over a hundred inaccurate bits of knowledge in your very very hard to watch video, but fortunately for the both of us, I have an actual life outside of slapping a little real world knowledge into young punks heads, so I've had to cut this lashing down into only a few snippets of brutally honest and accurate bits of automotive/parenting/& life information. PS, Best of wishes to your girlfriend, that you either learn a ton, loose the cocky shithead attitude, and actually become beneficial to her, or that she see straight through your foolish bs in less than 10 seconds of your next video, like I did in this one. Or best of wishes that she replaces you with a young man with an open-mind to learning and gaining experience through actual experience. That way, either way she ends up with a man beneficial to her, and some idiot who will clearly be laughed at around every corner in every room where he is at with actually knowledgeable men and women of the automotive industry. 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻💪🏽🤣🙌🏼🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸
Great video. Would you Recommend a 2002 VW Passat? I am asking because I heard that MK4 VW's have more problems than newer models and i wanted to know from you and what you think. Thanks
I'm over 6 feet tall and can fit in the front and back of these beyond comfortably. Especially in a model without the sunroof these are honestly some of the best cars for tall people.
She named it Brutus but it will always be the Blue Turd to me. And no her parents didn't...they bought it from a "trusted" person on craigslist who said he was the first owner and it had never been in an accident and was mechanically sound.
+Jose Santiago Unless you want a car that's perpetually broken stay away. I work in the car industry and these things are BAD. You can find so many nicer cars for the money!
I have a 2001 manual and I am in love, honestly it's the best I have driven my husband has a 2009 dodge and I still prefer my car to his manual and all!!!
+Luis Colon No sense in hiding it. Nobody can look it up and it is illegal if they do find a way. People see your plate on the road every day so what difference does it make?
+Jakeman21642 Not illegal to look up someones license plate. In fact, google search it and you will find several websites that will allow you to pull someones plate and information.
+ReelOne Well this was my ex's car so I REALLY do not care and if someone wants to find my plate and lookup where I live I've got guns. Not worried/ don't care at all.
It's funny how opinions on Beetles are so polarized. Personally, I think it looks quirky and fun, and smoothly and efficiently getting from point A to point B is what Beetle owners value most.
