Very interesting. I only recently found out that one side of my family lived 2-3 generations in a notorious London slum, the Old Nichol, and that my gggrandfather died at 35 before my great grandmother was actually born, and may not have even known his wife was pregnant :( Hard lives these people led then.
Erica Solomon Fun with statistics? :) Of course none of that is true but it is entertaining. Average life span is meaningless unless the society is entirely uniform. If you watch the video it specifies some of these groups and their life expectancy. Average doesn't say, for instance, how long the poor lived, the middle lived, the rich lived, a man lived, a woman lived, various ethnic groups lived, or in what neighborhood or town they lived. It doesn't say how long someone would live if that person made it through infancy, made it through childbearing, made it through the working years in unsafe conditions, made it through war. For instance, if you made it to 65 today your life span is estimated to be into the 80s in the US because you have already gotten past many threats. Benjamin Franklin went to England expecting it to be a glorious land because the Brits always said it was, but he was very disappointed in the terrible conditions he found there, conditions that were not a problem back home in Philadelphia. He lived to be 84, despite his well-known gout. He died in 1790. That wasn't considered to be amazing, although the man himself was definitely amazing. :) A free person in America was far more likely to reach 60, 70, 80, or as John Adams did, 90 than in England at the same time. We hadn't yet developed the hard core slums they had. Of course medical care was as likely to kill as cure (George Washington was apparently bled to death by his doctor when he was 67) and nothing was known about how to prevent infant mortality or a mother's death in childbirth. But the healthful basics were the same then as now: exercise, fresh air, clean water, good food, and a good night's sleep. BTW, the US life expectancy went down slightly the last two years in a row.
This was so hideous the most hideous of hideous are the royals why do they get to have steak and lobster and fresh meat and go out on their land and shoot deer and birds it's just so unfair This is always bothered me since I was a little girl the unfair treatment of people who don't deserve it God help them all
judacia some of the best Victorian writers like George gissing, Arthur Morrison n later jack London sympathised with the condition of the poor, but did not like the poor as people. They found them boorish, drunks, violent, prone to criminality and made decisions that made their lives worse. The men treated their wives and children like farm animals. There was never enough money for food, but there was always money for drink. They could not look after themselves but multiplied like rabbits with 10 or 12 children. No, they were not noble just because they suffered. More likely than not, children were horrendously abused by the parents, and very few children liked their families, much less love.
*Excellent video!! It certainly is better to do recreations than to have people just read. I feel sorry for all the people who lived before medicine was available. Basically, medicine like we have today which would’ve saved so many lives*
These poor victorians lived in those herendous conditions. While their queen victoria and family were swimming in wealth. what a great queen they had huh...
Ah, you're one of those marxists who thinks that no one should have any more than anyone else. Back then, wealth didn't protect you from most deadly diseases -- they were also at risk for diphtheria, tuberculosis, etc.
@@AB-ou8ve No, sweetie, history, not "history." Your comment says two things about you: 1) that you're a LEFT-wing shitbag and 2) you don't know history. If you did, you'd know that McCarthy, despite his questionable methods, was correct.
Karen K The VENONA project’s translations are questionable at best, so McCarthy was, again, a lying drunkard who died the way he lived. So much for history. Look girlie, stick to conspiracy theories and Trump’s tweets, history’s not your strongest.
@@musajaved9862 It is difficult to explain. The best way I can explain it is that although things have advanced in this world- ideas, inventions, better knowledge, etc. people still behave in ways that are harmful to health, wellbeing and society in general. Things have changed, but people's behavior and conditions resemble what went on all those years ago.
Kenny K I presume you are referring to the word 'learnt'? This word is spelt (or I suppose you would prefer spelled) correctly in British English, just as 'earnt' is as correct as 'earned' in American English. It is the same as trying to say organisation is correct rather than organization or colour vs color. Different words, different regions.
ooooweee, looky thar, dip my britches in the crik, dats gooder than snuf and not half as dusty. dats perdier than a bucket full of hog livers, oink oink oink.
What's really wrong with back to back housing. It's just like condos or apts of today. I wouldn't think sharing a wall was the problem but just the overall toxic structure.
From my understanding Back to back housing was a problem due to sharing wash/toilet facilities leading to disease. Near me back to back housing is still a thing….😃
I don't understand how the Royals and the elite were let get away with this treatment of their citizens for so long. I think they were the worst Royals in Europe for neglecting their subject's in such a way. England was one one of the richest countries in Europe at this time. This neglect was stark even in those time's. It seemed to drag on for hundreds of year's, the devide was /is oceans wide. That is my question why wasn't their a country wide revolution because the issue were country wide and generational long. ✊ ☘️
alleycatalog if they succeed they will realise they cant make their millions without a work force. The Swiss have a fantastic work force strong unions (not bought)
alleycatalog.......What they want to do is eliminate deadbeats on welfare and illegals sucking off the system. Face it, too many self-entitled people refuse to work and make a career out of living on the dole.
lets not become complacent and think our health care is perfect. Far from it. Medical mistakes causing death is a tremendous problem that is rarely discussed.
Well that was a waste of time --- it finished mid sentence, and I've no idea what happened, or if there's a follow-up to this. Why upload something that's clearly not complete?
Wow ! Gee ! Thankyou ! Very Good ---- Drunk -- Don't think So ! No Fresh Water -- They Drank Cider or Beer -- There was nothing Else to Drink ! --- No Tea No Coffee at that Time ! No Blood No Wound -------- Bullshit --- Shell Shock Was Real ------- Those Poor Boy's
