Sgt. Maj. Black and I were in school (SAWIC) together when we were both SSgts. He was very professional and squared away even then; I'm not surprised he rose to the top enlisted rank in the Corps. He also did a really good impression of Steve Irwin from time to time to break the tension! Congratulations and Semper Fidelis!
44:27 I cant get over that ever... this whole performance is amazing. This is a whole other level of "you really thought of everything." The darkness and the use of shadows throughout the ceremony really did it for me. Semper fi. Thank you for your service.
IAM a mother of two sons my oldest signed up after high school and 4 yrs old son at that time wanted to be just like his big brother went to the corps after school as well. Now my oldest grandson his father my oldest son is at basic training serve n his country. Needless to say my pride and love of country has shown thru
When I went with my father for his 45th Viet Nam Marine reunion in DC, we were all invited as a group to the barracks for one of these events. The group was given recognition and treated very well. Senator Inouye from Hawaii was the as well. After the spectacular performances by the Marine Band and Silent Drill Team we were greeted by the Senator and Commandant himself. We even met Chesty as he was getting plenty of pets from everyone. An evening I will never forget.
Even though I'm no Marine I'm quite fortunate that have met several throughout my nearly 37 years of life and do have 2 cousins as USMC officers, the first being a Major at Camp Lejeune, the second a now honorably discharged Captain whose last duty station in San Diego is now his hometown! 3 years ago I had the great honor to be visiting the National Museum of the USMC near MCB Quantico and a now retired Lt Colonel was retiring that day and also that day had the tremendous privilege to meet retired Lt Gen Richard Mills former commanding general of the USMCR!
I went to DI School (class 2-94) with Troy Black. On Friday nights we'd sit in my Mustang GT with a pimped out sound system and listen to Alice In Chains while drinking more beer than humanly possible. He's one intense, fierce, BAD ASS MO FO's!
When I was at 8th& I (83-86)we didn't have such coins. The Drill Plt came to Detroit about 3-4 yrs ago. I walked up and started talking to the Drill Plt. They didn't know me from Joe Blow. I'm just a old Dark Green Biker now. But when I got done talking to them, they knew I was the real-deal, and a young Marine gave me his Challenge Coin. I never knew his name and I still have the coin. Thanks Marine and Semper Fi!!!
In 1992 I attended the retirment ceremony for a female LDO Captain. Before she finished speaking she broke down and cried. She had joined the Corps in 1969 when women were asked to serve and "Free a man to fight". She never wanted to be under the same stadards as male Marines. She never wanted to wear cammies or a male compatable uniform. She never wanted to have a male only MOS, she wanted to serve in the capacity that she enlisted for. This change has been coming for many years, it's been empowering for some women and equally devasting to others. Many were pushed out to make way for the new women of the Corps. Truly Bitter Sweet.
The red tunics of the Marine band look so freaking cool. Military uniforms in republics are almost never crimson, a colour more associated with monarchies.
The USMB and the Drum and Bugle Corps wear red to honor field musics, the young drummers and buglers who wore the opposite color of their unit so as to be easily found to convey orders.
I was stationed with him with 1st Fast in 98. He was crazy as a Ssgt Blew my mind he became the SgtMaj of The Marine Corps. However he's a Marines Marine.
My son is about to leave the corp. He made full corporal almost 10 months ago. Could get his 3rd stripe if he stayed. I'm proud of him no matter what his decision is. Being married is also I think a reason he won't stay. God bless all in the corp.
God Bless You All and Protect You. My Dad was a Marine, Korean War 1949 - 1953, Camp Lejeune. Thank you for protecting America's Sovereignty and the American people. WWG1WGA
God bless America, the best democracy of the history, beyond the negativity and evil, any American man or woman can succeed in this nation. I Cuban born but I am loyal to USA and it principles forever.
I grew up on the 500 block of 9th St. S.E. , Wash. D.C. and join the Corps and served for 11.6 yrs in the infantry, special ops, recon and 1st force recon co. I served so we all could be free. Drive On Marine Corps Drive On!

Pomp & pageantry at its best. Almost joined the Marines. It was between the Army & Marines & I loved my time the Army but I have nothing but the utmost respect for the Marine Corps. That was some badass drill & ceremony. They were flawless. If this video didn’t recruit some future Marines, I don’t know what else could. Congrats to SGM Ronald L Green on your retirement & to new SGM of the MC Troy E Black. The best part of the military is the lack of racism. Your boss might be a minority and it doesn’t matter. You will fight and save the brother next to you no matter the race. If you want to move up, race doesn’t matter. You only cared about a person’s merits, nothing else. Yeah it exists but it gets boiled away as opposed to civilian life where it festers. The last 4 of 6 SGM of the MC were men of color. Wish I couldv’e done a few years in both services. You always wonder what it’s like on the other side.
@@RezSzn the marine corps is different on the inside than the outside. The leadership isnt professional, the brotherhood died a long time ago. You want to serve your country? Join the national guard or become a firefighter. I've been in 3 years now and I'm telling you I was the same way, until a ssgt told me how young privates who go to war actually get those purple hearts. They dont sacrifice themselves. They're literally shoved by their leaders who they trust onto grenades and die. Why? Because a man will kill whoever it takes to get back home. Dont try to be a hero or prove anyone wrong, dont let your ego kill your happiness. Dont go to the marines. We do have the prettiest ceremonies though. Gotta keep up appearances to cover up the bullcrap on the inside
At 2:16+ an enlisted Marine salutes the incoming Sergeant Major(seen in the lower right) who does not return the salute. Is it proper to salute an E-10?
Normally you don't salute an enlisted man but there are certain exceptions. The most notable is if they're a Medal of Honor winner, anybody who has earned a Medal of Honor gets saluted regardless of rank. The other time that you would salute an enlisted man is if they're standing in for an officer as part of a formal ceremony or formation.
I thank you all for your service in our country, I support our wounded warriors in Camp Pendleton with my baking and cooking since 208 and I support our AirForce and Army with my baking every time I go to the commissary and or bx since 1990 God Bless Our Military Home and Overseas God Bless America!!
Pardon my ignorance about this parade but why is an event of this importance held at night? Sure there's spotlights but the rest isn't well lit. Kinda hard to see everything that's going on
I would guess it's because it July, one of the hottest months of the year, and they are wearing those dress uniforms, which are probably very uncomfortable under the Sun.
Andrew Johnston Yes, These are the “sunset Parades” that go every Friday night (I think) in Washington D.C. and are freely available to the public. They are better lit when there in person, and the spotlights are definitely part of the effect and glamor of uniforms, instruments, etc.
That's what makes it a "Sunset Parade" and it's not particularly important. The original purpose of sunset, evening and twilight parades was to entertain the garrison civilians since military life was so boring. It is more of a social event than a military event.
Yes, the drum major's bearskin is modeled after the British. The red uniforms of the USMB and the Drum and Bugle Corps honor field musics who wore the opposite color of their unit to be easily located by the commander.
Shows how much of the US Army & Navy are modelled on the British. The Band Major is wearing a Busby, same a British Guards Battalions. Not that, that is a bad thing.
Always wondered why there isn’t a E-9,equivalent(Master Gunnery Sergeant Of The Marine Corps)Seems a little disrespectful to the Master Gunnery Sergeant.I only say because the Marine Corps,is the only branch of the Enlisted Grade with two equivalent E-9 Ranks.
Uh, no. A sergeant major is a leadership billet on top of a rank, just like a first sergeant. You don't have to be a first sergeant to hold the position, but if you're a first sergeant, you're in a leadership position. First sergeants go on to be sergeant majors and master sergeants go on to be master gunnery sergeants. The US Army has sergeant majors, like a USMC master gunnery sergeant, and command sergeant majors, like a USMC sergeant major. The US Air Force also has 2 E-7, E-8 and E-9 ranks.
Sir Semper Fi Sir. Thanks for your service to our country & THE CORPS. Happy WELL EARNED Retirement Sir! /s/ a Doc, US Public Health Service, 1979 - 1980, Nashville, AR! Randy O. Bowling & Sherril A. Bowling, R.O.B./
