Joe, are you neighbours with Harry Metcalfe as you use the same roads, especially that great ‘S’ bend that swoops down to the right then sweeps left and climbs Barack up and out of the compression?? Great video, lovely car with a nice spec.
great video as always Joe. I'd love this to be my daily, but a huge concern is the tyre/road noise coming into the cabin. How bad would you say the GTS is compared to a 4S?
I like your choice of a GTS manual. I think the best bang for the buck is a Carrera T with a tune on it. I think APR does one for $1500 USD that brings your 380hp to 500! That is an insane bang for your money. It is offered in manual, has the rear seat delete option, the lightweight package, PTV with LSD, Sports Chrono, Sports PSAM and the sport exhaust. Hard to beat. Great vid. Keep em coming. Cheers
It is quite interesting, just quickly specced out two identical cars, one 4S and other 4GTS, and with the options I chose, the 4GTS was only 2000€ more expensive while having bigger brakes and other GTS features. So imo anyone in the market for a 992 should get a GTS! (Edit: Estonian pricing, AWD because snow :) )
Saying that he would like the base Carrera because he thinks it's all you really need for road use is a very honest assessment, and very unlike most motoring journo's. Well done. It's actually convinced me to just get the base model, when I can ever get one, that is. 18 month wait times in Australia.
Helper springs keep the main spring from losing contact with the spring seat. What you're referring to is Tender springs used in a dual rate setup. They are the ones that help out with road imperfections. Commonly confused.
Great Vid Joe, they just keep getting better and better. The major problem with any new 911 is that you simply can not get into them. I have been waiting over a year already for a new C4S and there is still no sign of it. God knows how long you’d wait for something like this🤷♂️🙁
Great review Joe. Had a 991.2 GTS but knew I wouldn’t be tracking it so I deleted sports suspension. Made it a bit more compliant for my roads and didn’t detract from the enjoyment.
Porsche marketing strategy is spot on ; keep everyone wanting and waiting keeps the brand exclusive and the resale up .. Just a pain if you actually want one ...
@@jays9211 No small people here, so we found the exact opposite. The rear seats were useless to us for luggage as everyone could see it! The Cayman with two large storage areas, is a hugely practical vehicle for two. Daily use, weekly shopping, or touring all favoured the Cayman. The 991.2S we had was a mega thing, but was more serious and straight faced. Less fun to drive at sane(ish) speeds.
You have to be honest when choosing a Carrera variant with the brilliant 992 platform. Standard is already rocket fast at 3.5 for 0-60. This GTS is no GT3/Turbo S lite, its little more unique mechanically now than a parts bin model. Bit more racy bits but people got to stop with the sweet spot cliché. You can option a base Carrera to be a sweet spot. another banger Joe !
@@Criminelsoyeux Carrera RWD, is all the 911 perfection you need. Don’t need to tick the fully adjustable seats , RAS, PDCC . Spend it on materials, wheels, colours . The car is perfect already n has character without all the high tech gizmo to make it very flat handling.
They are aimed at different buyers though. M4 is a mega-fast 4 seater family coupe, so it's much better than the 911 if you need rear seats and luggage space. I love 911's though, always have, and there is no comparison as a full-on sports car.
@@ergonaut940 It's not in the same class as an M4, the M4 has useable rear seats and a boot, and it basically a 4 series with 2 doors. The 991 has always been a proper sports car, completely different vehicles.
Helper springs just prevent the main springs from falling out of place at full droop allowing longer wheel travel for big suspension movement. They certainly don't affect the spring rate for dealing with small bumps as suggested. They are obviously completely squashed flat most of the time, otherwise they'd need to be stiffer than the main springs!!
great review Joe. great car, now finally a GTS with some real grunt. agree - i think 2 wheel & manual is way to go, especially if it knocks 100kg off the weight.
Very enjoyable/ fun video - thank you Joe! If you do review another 911 try and get one with the lightweight and noise insulated glass to help with our dreadful uk roads….
Excellent car, but honestly I miss that old lumping Porsche exhaust sound (due to turbo charged motors and all those emission limitations). Then it sounds rather like angry vacuum cleaner. How I love my old 997.1 C2S, still sounds like a symphony to my ears 😊
@@ergonaut940 Watch the POV review of AutoTopNL and you’ll see the GTS sounds great. And don’t forget that all car manufacturers suffer from EU regulations. Not their fault
Great video! I would have loved to see the draggy results if you had pressed the sports response button on the steering wheel that allows .15Bar boost extra for 20 seconds.
Fantastic Vid Joe as always, when are we getting the RWD vid :) ? Also the PDK is such an amazing system , that in RWD might work just fine too for comfort of daily use no ? Thoughts ?
Hello Joe, when configuring a 2024 GTS, one option is to click the "Porsche Active Suspension Management (Raised 10mm)" - essentially this reverts the suspension to the Carrera S suspension. What are your thoughts on easing back on the GTS suspension?
I would love to get a 992 911. Just a base would be great, but I cannot bring myself to spend 103k -my S2000. I am so cheap I am even talking myself out of the M3 base. 🤣 But a base 992 is definitely the way to go. Plenty of speed and power for road use.
Run the tyres at the comfort pressures and its like a limo. I run my 991.2 GTS at these pressures all the time and its fine. It seems the downside of all aluminium body shells is NVH my steel GTS has tyre noise for sure but liveable.
Gentle critique: The secondary camera view showing you talking into main camera when stationary is overused and distracting for this type of video. When driving it is perfect. Otherwise excellent work. Love the channel.
great review. I love you're honest style. What do you think of the width? especially compared to the narrow 991.2 T -would you consider trading up? (for road use, not track)
Great video. Absolutely love my 992 C4S but really tempted by a GTS next. The centre lock wheels are a bit of a turn off as I’ve got a set of winter wheels for the C4S that I swap at home….
In enjoyed the review. Great car and your low key approach is great. One question. Why do you look and talk at one camera but use the roll from another camera? It distracts me. Thanks
Porsche with that 911 Carrera GTS is just the sweet spot with the 911 lineup. Sure the Turbo S is insanely quick as well, but why do you need to Turbo S when even the base 911 is perfectly fast as well?
Great review, noticed that car has the optional seat belts (crayon colour ones!!) same as my Pana! one question, have a go pro 10 hero, and for the trip to NC500, where do you think is the best place to mount it, inside or outside?!! keep the reviews coming love the honesty!
Now imagine a manual, rwd 911 with the Turbo S engine… that’d be a properly special GT2 Touring. The GTS is just mega but so so expensive, as you said: the base model with a couple of options is enough.
What's the connection between a 911 992 and the latest M3? They have both got too big for our roads and have more suited cheaper siblings. The Caymen GT4 and the up and coming M2. Not to take anything away from Porche as they are probably the best all round sports cars money can buy.
Hi Jo , Great review , met you at Bedford the other day (got the yellow Caterham) , have a gts 4.0 boxter on order , what did you think gearbox wise , manual or Pdk !?
