Looks great but it's really annoying that they killed the iDrive controller, I'm a latecomer to it having bought my first BMW a couple of years ago, but after years of touchscreens, I couldn't imagine going back to stabbing at a screen while driving along, the iDrive controller is way more user friendly and definitely feels a lot safer to operate too.
Nearly 60k pounds for a 2l I4 small SUV? Oh man the prices have become really mad... 4 years ago you could get a new M140i for 40k with the B58 and ZF8... Btw nice to see you at the Dutzendteich. Greetings from Nürnberg.
Yes, but the M140i in 2019 was really a 2012 car with a cosmetic touch-up, mildly updated software and 1st gen B58. Also, as much as I like my F20, its build quality is nowhere near today's 1ers. BMW has moved upmarket and the massive inflation didn't help prices either.
@@nikolaninkov Yeah true words. The F20 chassis really wasn't the best and it is outdated. But as a enthuthiast i would go for the B58 and ZF8 every time. For a modern BMW i would say better go for a M340i. This car is only for persons that don't car about driving in my opinion but want "premium" interior and style. Driving wise a Puma ST will be a lot more fun than this. For me it's just not enough value. But maybe it is for others.
M performance cars are best BMW products since long time. Cars like M550i or M340i are much better than full M cars for 99% users specially when u use cars every day.
I really like the look of the X1 & that is the best looking one I've seen to date Joe. If you were there at the DTM with BMW then it must have been a great weekend (i'm not jealous..... honest i'm not 🤨😂) as the results for Schubert BMW were really good. Keep up the good work... 👍🏻
@@ekimandersom4478yes, Germany did...only cars using eFool are still allowed, which will not happen since no eFool will be available at all in the needed amount. And no OEM will be stubid to invest money in Development of a car restricted to eFool.
Overall, like what BMW did here. That being said, absolutely insane decision to cover the rear bumper in gloss black plastic. That's going to look like a scratched up piece of crap in a year
I hope BMW doesn’t fit really stiff suspension to this like other M cars. This car may be a perfect UK m light car if the suspension is good and they fix the steering that is apparently odd on the regular X1
Has this new X1 got the part time 4WD system that is FWD most of the time ? What happened to the B58 motor ? How come they are not using it in the M35i ?
Great video Joe, was that Patrick with his long lens out? Anyway, great looking car that I must say. Personally I’d say one of BMWs best looking cars at present. I have always felt that the X1 is a great family waggon and that seems like the ideal combination of speed, practicality & looks in a reasonably priced package. Would be great to know how it handles.
Dunno about it being a great family wagon. We have the mk1 x1 2014 and it’s very small. With child seats in the back there is no room in the front at all. The boot is very small also. My personal f10 5 series is much better
Started configuring an i4 on the BMW site. Once I found this little gas-powered rocket for $20k less, I felt pretty silly for even considering an EV - especially with how bad that sedan looked with no exhaust pipes, and now great the quad tips look on the X1.
@@henryhealy agreed, but small= lite and big = M Not that difficult for enthusiasts, its not like normal people know the difference between S and RS cars
@@musashi6875 C'mon, there is extremely little in the difference between these new M Lite exhausts and the full M exhausts. At least Audi uses completely different shapes.
Does it have full ambient lighting? I heard that the ambient lighting is only for front and does not get integrated the rear of the cabin. Is that true?
You didn't even mention not whisper about the big piano black gloss rear bumper trim, I hate that if anything on this cars styling is over the top that's it! Yuk, love them tail pipes though sorry...
@@christianwold to be honest had a '20 with fixed suspension and it was tight. My '22 wags its tail during fast maneuvers with the adaptive suspension, enough to want coilovers and it almost killed me 3 months ago. I just want to be lower to the ground and more compact. I don't need the room of an X3 anymore.
Is anyone paying the current prices for these new cars? I find it hard to believe that people coughing up the extra dosh on monthlies! The prices all seem to have gone up £200 + a month on pcp deals pre Covid.
Sadly, yes. Not much choice if you want a half-decent premium German brand, they know this and inflated the prices yet at the same time they've cut costs and IMO unless u get a full-fat "m"-car they're more bling than zing, more interested in tech gimmicks and designer looks, unfortunately too many people like the superficial stuff to care as long as it's /new/ and somehow they can afford it even with the 'cost-of-living crisis'.
@@rimmerblues1586 we’ve just been renewing our lease on my wife’s car due to lead times but also cost. We are paying £399 for the same car that is now nearly £700 a month! The lease company said lots of people are just extending their leases like we’ve done. I think people might start to go down to cheaper models once there current deals expire. Even if they can afford it, it starts becoming a matter of principles I think.
@@mrjamesmay3548 :-( also I think some are also buying-out the lease, if they can, and holding-on to what they have but sadly it doesn't look like it's ever going to be reasonable again.
@@rimmerblues1586 yeah we looked at that but they wanted 28k for a 4 year old x3 that I believe was around 42k brand new.. lease companies are onto a winner.. i think in a normal world it would be 20k… I’ve just seen a Hyundai i20N advertised for £444 a month 🤯
Major Camera Problems with the new shape X1, mine was in the garage 7 times in 3 months, the Collison and lane departure lights come on with nothing in front, all BMW authorise is to keep re calibrating the camera, too dangerous to let my wife drive, Sold it (72 reg)
Similar wheels to what's going to be on the M135 F70 soon, which will also have a 7 speed DCT and get rid of that massively compromised Aisin thing The twin exhausts will also have a very nice sound, allegedly, plus the B48 has several internals taken straight from the B58 - Apparently going to have 312bhp and 295lbs torque 😉
I'm just so disappointed, that the X1 30e have significantly more power and torque then this "sporty" version with full of M badges. And even for a very similar price. So If you need a fast X1 get the X1 30e.
I am of the opinion that BMW has ruined their whole line-up and I, a previous BMW lover don't wanna know anything about BMWs anymore, and yet! Here I am because this X1 M35i actually looks pretty nice 🌚❤️ Maybe there's still hope for BMW :')
Should of had the B58 in it with the ZF8 and made it a monster to compete with the likes of the GTS Macan etc… opportunity missed by BMW. Also single exhaust either side would of looked far better, much like the M135i
Visited a large BMW dealer the other day walked in the showroom only to be greeted by three quarters of the new cars on display been full EVs needless to say I was not impressed, nearly all were the size of WW2 tanks , BMW still make some very good and desirable cars and this M1X35i looks to be one so let’s see these in showrooms let’s enjoy ICE while we can
Noooo! I’ve always said a car should not ever have one exhaust tip per cylinder- trying way too hard. I think this is the first time I’ve seen BMW hit the dreaded 1-to-1 ratio.
What is this habit of car reviewers being economic with their words, is it that hard to actually say 'panoramic' rather than just shortening it to 'pan'? Apart from that, another excellent review Joe! 😁
Totally disagree with your assessment of the quad tail pipes. This is an “M” designated design language, similar to “AMG” MB products that also get quad tail pipes. I like it! It means you are driving the top of that series. I really like the new design. BMW is back! I left the mark for MB AMG products, but will be going back to BMW soonest. My only issue with the new X1 is the digital dashboard. Granted, every mark is entertaining this stupid computer based dashboard 🤬😤 Give me buttons, pls BMW! This is my next SUV for the misses. Tks for the review mate.
@@ekimandersom4478 it did before shameless shysters realised they can milk everyone and they will say "thank you can we have more please", i.e. until end of 2019
Just can't warm to the latest X1. No iDrive controller, no climate control buttons, over-reliance on touchscreens, over-firm ride, totally lifeless steering, dumpy looks etc. It's as if BMW hardly bothered with it. Maybe the M35i will be better than the other X1 models, but I wouldn't bet my house on it.
