Voice Play did pretty good on the Sing-Off. I didn't remember they had worked at a theme park. I do know they've been together since 1997. I've seen the Road Trip skit they do and it is pretty funny.. Thanks and good night.
The guys are the same except for Tony Wakim (dark dramatic looking guy) left the group in 2017 and J None (Baritone) joined in 2018. Earl Elkins (Tenor I) Eli Jacobsonn (Tenor II) he is the bald guy, you probably usually see him with a hat Geoff Castellucci (Bass) his hair is shorter here Layne Stein (Beatboxer) I don't think Honey was with the group all that long. Her vocal timbre always seemed too much like Earl's to me. It gave the group an overall too tinny sound. Don't get me wrong, I like Earl, but one voice of that type is enough for such a small group.
This performance was a bad imitation of Pentatonix. Adding honey was a mistake because it changed their dynamic. Thank God, they have found who they are, and we love them for it. ... Guy
Thanks Shawn - it's nice to see where some of these groups originated. I do think we've been spoilt with PTX though. I found myself thinking ' oh skipping'... PTX introduced that. I feel awful comparing everyone but I can't help it ! I did enjoy these guys though.
Same. I'm sorry for everyone having to follow Pentatonix! Home Free was saved by two things: a different genre, and being really, really good. Voice Play is coming along now, but I'm not impressed with their Sing-Off debut.
Hey, love your reactions 😊. I'd like to suggest two other artists/channels you could check out. Both do acapella stuff and are absolutely amazing : Nick Pitera and Paint (His songs called after ever after are hilarious)
As the others said, adding Honey was probably a mistake, though she's obviously a good singer, I don't think they'd managed to work out how to make the most of the voices they had. I get the impression that the producers were pushing them into a style that wasn't particularly their thing, possibly looking for another Pentatonix, which didn't help. They do have better performances later on in the competition. You were right, Street Corner RENAISSANCE, who were in season 4 with Voiceplay and Home Free, are not the same group as Street Corner SYMPHONY, which Chance was in, and who competed in Season 2. Took me awhile to warm up to Voiceplay also, I never liked Honey, her voice grated and seemed shrill. They have since come a long way, two of my favorites are Daddy Sang Bass and Warrior.
I have to be honest. I didn't really like this song. They just didn't mesh. I'm afraid I measure every group against the yardstick of Pentatonix. Loved the reaction though, thank you.
