... У РІК 6562 [1054]. Преставився великий князь руський Ярослав. А коли ще він був живий, наставив він синів своїх, сказавши їм: «Осе я одходжу зі світу сього. А ви, сини мої, майте межи собою любов, бо ви єсте брати від одного отця і одної матері. І якщо будете ви в любові межи собою, то й бог буде в вас, і покорить він вам противників під вас, і будете ви мирно жити. Якщо ж будете ви в ненависті жити, у роздорах сварячись, то й самі погибнете, і землю отців своїх і дідів погубите, що її надбали вони трудом великим. Тож слухайтесь брат брата, пробувайте мирно. Тепер же поручаю /99/ я,- замість себе,- стіл свій, Київ, найстаршому синові | своєму, брату вашому Ізяславу. Слухайтесь його, як ото слухались ви мене, нехай він вам буде замість мене. А Святославу даю я 2 Чернігів, а Всеволоду - Переяславль, а Ігорю - Володимир 3, а Вячеславу - Смоленськ».
І так розділив він городи, заповівши їм не переступати братнього уділу, ні згонити брата свого [зі стола, і] сказавши Ізяславу: «Якщо хто схоче зобидити свого брата, так ти помагай тому, кого скривдять». І так наставив він синів своїх пробувати в любові....

While he was still alive, he instructed his sons, saying to them: "Here I am departing from this world. And you, my sons, have love among yourselves, for you are brothers from one father and one mother. And if you live in love among yourselves, then God will be with you, and He will subdue your enemies under you, and you will live in peace. But if you live in hatred, quarreling among yourselves, then you yourselves will perish, and you will destroy the land of your fathers and grandfathers, which they acquired with great effort. So listen to each other, dwell in peace. And now I entrust-I, in my place-my table, Kiev, to your eldest son, your brother Iziaslav. And so he divided the cities, instructing them not to exceed their brotherly share, not to drive away their brother from the table, and telling Iziaslav: "If anyone wants to offend his brother, then you help the one who is wronged." And so he instructed his sons to dwell in love.
