Thanks for this video! I tried for a long time to find out how to tie a frets on dombra, i only found a couple of incomprehensible pictures and videos in which it is impossible to understand what to do. I'm just making my own dombra and this will be the most valuable information for making it.

да понятен😋 а вы не знаете какое расстояние считается нормальным между 12 им ладом и струной?

It seems that you are a great domra player :) I just bought a domra on Avito (Russian craighslists), tuned it D/G but for some reason my D strings seems to be very loose. I know that fishing line is commonly used on domras (Kazakhstan and Kolmykia), what diameter fishing line should I get so that my D string is not so loose? Do I need different strings gauges for each string or 2 identical strings or 1 single fishing line for both strings (I don't know how or what exactly to ask, so I hope you understand what I mean). And finally, the fishing line used for the frets is very thin and I have to press the strings almost on the edge of the fret otherwise it hums, should I refret the entire instrument? if so, what fishing line diameter do you recommend?

Hello, and thankyou ! It’s most common to use one piece of fishing line for both strings. I use 0.7mm fishing line. If you want tighter strings you could try something thicker like 0.8 or maybe 0.9, but in general I would say that a lot of the time the strings are fairly loose, compared to other instruments especially. I tune to A/D, so the strings aren’t very tight at all. As for the frets, there are a few factors that can affect the buzzing. The frets (diameter, as well as how well they are tied), and technique of the player, and the quality of the dombra it’s self (so the straightness of the neck and so on). Usually it’s the higher quality dombras that use thinner fishing line, and it’s wrapped around twice for each fret. Pressing the close to the fret is the right technique so I would advise to maybe keep practicing like that and see if it improves, but if you think that the amount of buzz is abnormal, maybe trying a different way of fretting is worth a try.

@@JHDombyra Thanks, this is really helpful. I tune my domra to D/G (top to bottom). I'll give 0.8 mm fishing line a try

@@JHDombyra I forgot to mention, there's another less popular dombra, Holmykskaya dombra, a traditional instrument of a mongolic republic in Russia, usually triangular in shape (homemade/peasant variants) or similar to a pizza peel (with frets, academic dombra). I just thought this might interest it :)
