OK to all you doubters, I drove the Lucra in Sonoma Raceway and it's a GREAT car. You can personalize the fit and the performance. Luke has followed his dream through some very difficult times and good time. The Lucra Team has made a real performance car. The engineering in the car is first class engineering. No bad things here. I will get one in the next 3 years. I can afford a new car but am actively looking for a car that someone wants to sell and move into something else.
One of the best episodes of anything you guys have produced so far. More inventive camera work, good music, and an interesting story to tie it all together. Well done, MT! You guys and the Drive channel are making RU-vid a great place for auto enthusiasts.
I would love to see this car tested at the Nurburgring ! With a very skilled driver I believe this car can break the 7minute barrier ! The cost to ship this car to Germany and to conduct and record tests would be its best sales tool !
Well done Motortrend! Congrats Luke! I've had a LUCRA for 4 years now and it's still as exciting now as when I first got it. Luke's passion for cars is truly remarkable and it shows in the engineering and performance of the LC470. I've never driven a more fun, more responsive car.
Oh, and I must comment that the music is so refreshing, you get to hear the car, but the music is not the stupid rock guitar riffs that one normally hears, sounded more like something inspired by Copeland's Appalachian Spring. ... and I am not saying that all rock guitar riffs are stupid, just that what one hears in generic car vids is often insipid. Thank you!
Lucra, if you're reading this make a more affordable version. Chevrolet has many different engines that are much more affordable, Seriously just build one with the LC9. This car would still be incredibly fast with 300hp.
stop and pause at exactly 1:33 look at how far back in the chassis that engine sits. That to me is what makes this car special. Not its power to weight ratio but that the chassis can put that power to the ground in a manageable way. Its not going to spin if you lift off at mid apex or get too happy coming off a corner into a long straight. I remember GM took a similar approach with the fourth gen f body, much of the engine was actually under the cowl and dashboard.
Lister ! Corvette ??? Brian Lister ! of Cambridge England UK designed this car THE LISTER KNOBBLY in 1956 he built manufactured and sold them all over the world, they were fitted with a Jaguar race prepared 3.8 with a wide angle cylinder head. or he would sell without engine so people could fit what they wanted and a lot of people in America fitted a Corvette engine. the idea of fitting the engine as far back as possible was one of Brian Listers main aims, google research and see, what Brian was able or allowed to do in the 1950's was dictated by the race car authorities, but this car was indeed a unique design that had to be achieved by Brian because the authorities changed all the rules, everything to bonnet height, windshield height ect had to meet a criteria, Many notable people raced these cars, Jim Clarke, Sir Sterling Moss, also America's famous racing driver Briggs Cunningham purchased several and won many races, Brian Lister also raced them with Archie Scott Brown as the driver and had great great success, in the 1950's they called THE LISTER KNOBBLY a GIANT SLAYER because it was unbeatable, all in all this Lister design THE LISTER KNOBBLY in the 1950's entered 2000 races and finished all of them, Brian Lister's LISTER KNOBBLY came a long long time before any AC Cobra or Marcus, or TVR, it was the fabulous design of a very humble English Man, many people have copied this design including The very Famous American chassis design specialist Chuck Beck who again had great success with them, see his Lister 007 and then google Chuck Beck Lister, also google ( meet the man behind Lucra cars Top Gear - 12th Feb 2017 ) in this video Luke Richards talks about but doesn't name an old guy who taught him a great deal about building cars = THAT OLD GUY IS CHUCK BECK ! I haven't seen or driven one of these Lucras but from what I have seen I believe Luke Richards has done a fabulous job, old Lister Knobbly's from the 50's fetch 2 to 3 million at auction
amazing a quarter mile in 9.1 secs, faster than a veyron and a venom gts quarter mile. The equivalent of a modern shelby cobra with out the muscle car downsides like live axles and an uncomfortable ride.
They should start with putting a less overpowered version of the car , so that more people will be attracted to it (like me). 200 hp in this car will make it super efficient and still really fast.
It would certainly be a cheap, easy to work on entry into car enthusiasm for younger buyers. Especially if they offer warrantied upgrades/swap kits for people to gradually spec their car up over time.
Mr. Richards, sir, you are living THE dream. To go from car hobbyist to manufacturing your own super car.. I couldn't imagine something that would put a bigger smile on my face. Congratulations, I'm excited to see more of this car :-)
What a fantastic and driven philosophy! The new car looks great, too! I'm one of those people who wants cars like this. Light and powerful. Definitely one of the limiters why I love older cars, as they're still tons lighter than the 'modern' equivalent. Why does the average car weight 4200 lbs?!
Simply, WOW! What a great combination. Love the styling. It's like a perfect modern amalgamation of the 550 Porsche Spyder and the Shelby Cobra. The power and chassis sound like a lot of fun. I can only hope that Luke Richards will have at least some of the same success as Shelby. I also wish there was more to this video. Seems to short to do this vehicle and company justice. I'd love more, especially when the new car comes out.
Amazing to be in this era of craftmanship for supercars. This is the first time I heard about this manufacturer, but hope It gets to grow and shine in the automotive picture. For sure, the recipe is a good one.
This car is a beast. It has tremendous amount of power. Look at it almost says: "Hey, look at me. Drive me. You'll not want to drive anything apart me". What a machine. God, bless America
Amazing car. This current model looks awesome, retro-awesome, but I find myself leaning towards the upcoming design. Great job again MT, I would of probably never known about this car manufacturer if it wasn't for this channel!
Brilliant sounding car. That exhaust note makes the hairs on my arms stand up. The prototype pictured later in the video looks very interesting. Hopefully it will have similar performance characteristics.
this guys story literally sounded exactly like me. ive been interested in cars since i was three, designed an rc car, and am takin a break now. hopefully im fourtunate enough to do the same as this mad. he is one of my new heroes
mechanically, they did an awesome job. with a curb weight of just under a ton with 600+hp and still be stable, especially on corners, is definitely not easy. i'm not into a curvy design for the body, but the one they are releasing in summer looks like something i would love to have.
Yes it is based off the Lister Corvette through the years Luke the owner has made the car more up-to-date and the new ones are incredible. I was The test driver that got all the speed times at local tracks, I also left a 911 turbo all-wheel-drive in the dust on the Hollywood hills and waited for him at the top laughing. This car is incredible trust me, amazing for around $120k

It truly is not often I get goose bumps seeing and hearing a car, but this certainly made all the hairs in my neck stand up! Can I get one in Europe? Please?...
I love this car. I have watched the begining of it a pile of times, and the sound never gets old, I cant wait for the day I get to drive one. There is only one I have ever seen in person in CT, ever since it has been a bit of an obsession. I would love to find a way to be a dealer on the east coast for them, but it might need a top. Not often though. Amazing , Keep it up.
I want a copy of all the music MT uses in their videos (especially this one) so I can put it on in my car when I go on my own drives. They really do a good job of capturing the emotion expressed by everyone involved in this industry. An excellent by video MT.
its easy for you to say but alot of research goes to into making something like this. It might be a copy of the formula the cobra had but still gotta give props to the effort and passion that went into this.
Great video. Seems like a genuine car guy.. Getting more rare these days. It's cars like this that will make me continue to love cars. Built for the enthusiast and the drivers. Not shackled by cafe regs and electronic nannies. I'll drive a ev car daily to drive this on weekends and track.
Wow I stared in amazement of the ability and styling of this car. The world stopped for 6 minutes and 52 seconds whilst I dreamt what it would be like to drive this awesome car, But alas now back to reality. Thanks MT and Lucra for providing the fantasy.
Hardly anything is a new idea in the car world unless you go into alternative fuel sources, mostly its just innovation and advancement on old ideas. This car has a CF body, lightweight frame, rear weight bias, 600hp reliably, and somewhat comfortable with all the new handeling characteristics you want and none that you don't, sure its not a new idea but its innovative.
The ZR1 did it with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, which are road legal tires that are available as a stock factory option. While these tires are very extreme, have very fast tread wear, are almost useless in the rain, and barely meet DOT requirements, they are still street tires, and not race slicks.
Was looking through my old Motor Trend magazines and I came across the July 2007 issue and on page 190 there is an article on the 2007 Lucra Cars LC 470. At the time it had 400hp, interesting to see where Lucra is NOW in 2013 with over 600hp.
I like this guy! It's nice to know that cars of this quality & design are being built. This will be the Lister or Cunninghan in years to come. They will become coveted collector cars that you can still drive. The new model looks great too.
The best sports car for the money, bar none. I wish the video went more into the engineering of this car and and its chassis because that is where this car shines. Definitely on my list of next toy's to buy. I look forward to a possible "hardtop" version in the future ;)
also i'm a fan of the paint job. it reflects the amount uniqueness of the car. a glossy paint would have just made it look like a car that had already been done before. that being said, i'm sure they will give it whatever paint you want
