A wonderful show, so glad it's been posted on RU-vid. I'm enjoying it as much now as I did when it was first aired. The regular cast members were great, and most of the episodes featured interesting guest stars as well.
This show tried too hard to be Bonanza, and I hated Bonanza. I really liked Jim Stacey as an actor and especially the ex gunslinger he played in this role...Unfortunately, he had that horrible accident and then worse, he was locked up numerous times for some SERIOUS crimes.
DID ANYONE EVER ASK James what the necklace was he wore on the series? I liked the little Blue ring he wore on his middle finger, as well as his longer shaggier haired look, I thought it suited Johnny more than when they had him all trimmed up.
Love, love, LOVE him with longer, straighter hair! Early in the first season he wore a gold St Christopher's medal. Not sure exactly when he switched to the more hippie style beaded necklace that he usually wore as a bracelet. He wore the beaded bracelet as a necklace in the opening scene of "The Kid" and in some publicity shots. Pretty sure all the jewelry he wore was his and had some sentimental value.
For all the non-catholic fans it is a St. Christopher metal most likely a reflection of Johnny Madrid's background they are made in varies sizes and metals so don't always look exactly the same.
One of my favorites! I just wish Johnny had been featured in more episodes. And I so wish this series had lasted longer. CBS? really didn't give this the chance it deserved. Plenty of Westerns and shows set in the 1800s were still doing well in the 70s and beyond.
OMG! Found this by accident this evening! How I loved this series as a kid - I’m now 59...Never thought I’d see it again. Saturday afternoons were magic. Thank you SO much for putting it on RU-vid. Need the darn tissues...silly old bird...xxx
Quentin owns the rights to the Lancer characters he bought them from the creator's wife. Lancer ran from 68-70. Same time period as the Tarantino film.
I also, was brought here by way of Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. As I was watching the series I kept thinking I have seen this show before, then it dawned on me I did! My parents use to watch this show, also I remember when James Stacy got in his accident my parents talked about it.
THIS IS MY SECOND COMMENT ON THIS EPISODE ENTITLED "SHADOW OF A DEAD MAN" AS MANY TIMES AS I WATCH IT I LOVE THE EPISODE. BUT IN MY OPINION I WOULD CALL IT JESSAMINE FIRE, BECAUSE OF LYNN LORING SUPERB ACTING. WHEN JOHNNY MEETS HER IT IS HIM LOOKING DOWN THE BARRELL OF A RIFLE, & THE FIRE IN HER EYES AS SHE DELIVERS HER THREATS, SHOWS THAT SHE MEANS BUSINESS. JESSAMINE IS HAVING A HARD TIME TRUSTING, & JOHNNY IS ONE AS SHE SAY IS A STRANGER. JESS CAN USE A RIFLE & SHE IS NOT AFRAID TO USE IT. BUT THE MISTRUST SHE SEES IN JOHNNY IS MISGUIDED. THE FIRE IN HER EYES GIVES YOU THE SENSE OF A FIERCE WARRIOR IN THE MIST OF A STORM. THE FIRE NEVER LEAVES HER EYES BECAUSE SHE IS ALWAYS ON GUARD TO PROTECT AS SHE SAYS WHAT'S HERS. SHE HAS LAID CLAIM TO LAND, A HOUSE, & A NAME THAT IS NOT HERS, BUT THE FIRE IN HER EYES SAY DIFFERENT. THE MISTRUST THAT SHE HAS FOR JOHNNY, IS EVER PRESENT, BUT HER MISGUIDED TRUST FOR THE REAL THREAT IS HER DOWN FALL. BUT IN THE LONG RUN JOHNNY MATCHES THAT FIRE IN HER EYES, & SAVES THE DAY FOR HER & HIMSELF. WITH HER (2) LEADING MEN, JAMES STACY & JOE DON BAKER, LYNN LORING SHOWS THAT SHE CAN BRING & SPREAD THE FIRE. 🎥🎥🎥🎥🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴🐴
I ENJOYED THIS EPISODE, BECAUSE OF THE DYNAMIC ACTING OF THE (2) GUEST STARS. LYNN LORING & JOE DON BAKER. THEY BOTH HAVE APPEAR ON LANCER BEFORE BOTH PLAYING AWESOME & DEFYING CHARACTERS. JOE DON AS SANTEE, PARDEE, & HARNER. WHERE HE WAS (2) EVILS & (1) DOWN ON HIS LUCK & FEELING SORRY FOR HIM SELF.) IT WAS AMAZING AT HOW HE PLAYED EACH CHARACTER TO THE LETTER. INTERGRATING WITH THE LANCER CLAN, IT WAS AWESOME TO WATCH. THE SAME GOES FOR LYNN, HER ROLE IN FOLEY AS POLLY WAS SUPERB. AS A VICTIM, SHE GAVE SCOTT, & JOHNNY, & THE FOLEY'S, A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY. I THINK THAT IN THIS EPISODE, SHE IS THE ENPOWER WOMAN. SHE HAD TO PLAY WITH SEVERAL DIFFERENT EMOTIONS, ALL AT ONE TIME, AND AGAIN SHE WAS AWESOME. FROM LEARNING THAT JAMES STACY, CHARACTER (JOHNNY MADRID) WAS ACTUALLY (JOHNNY LANCER) THE SAME NAME, THAT SHE WAS USING. THE LOOK AT THE REVELATION WAS PRICELESS. THE INTERACTIONS, THAT JOHNNY HAD WITH GRADY WAS ALSO VERY AMAZING IT SHOWS THAT JOHNNY, & SCOTT AS WELL CAN ACT VERY WELL WITH CHILD STARS. EVEN THOUGH IT IS TITLE "THE SHADOW OF A DEAD MAN, IT SHOWS THAT "JOHNNY LANCER" WILL ALWAYS CAST A SHADOW AS JOHNNY MADRID. KUDOS, TO AN AWESOME ACTING GROUP. JAMES STACY, LYNN LORING, JOE DON BAKER, & MICHAEL JAMES _ WIXTED. AWESOME, JUST AWESOME. A DEVOTED LANCER FAN😍😅🎥
