2.2's bugged unbeatable levels [READ DESC]

All the levels shown here aren't actually impossible! Sunset Sandstorm and Sonic Wave received bugfixes, Black Blizzard's green orb is doable if you buffer a jump off the floor beneath, and many other bugged levels that I didn't show like Windy Lanscape ARE still doable, but in order to get the max height jump off a slope you need to click on nearly the last frame of the slope in order to get it. It's much much harder than 2.11's slope physics and I'm sure these levels will eventually get fixes, but as of today none of the levels shown today are impossible.
Oh, Aleph 0 is also possible. You need to actually NOT hold on the slope before that gravity portal, then buffer again on the portal and you'll be fine.

Here's a handful of levels I've tested that had some sort of change from the new 2.2 240fps physics, slope bugfix, and green orb bugfix too. I left my thoughts on the matter near the end, but we'll have to see how RobTop handles this situation.
Yes I've been trying to beat Sunset Sandstorm for a while now, I currently have 26 - 100% and 68%. Luckily, I won't be able to play for a few months so whilst I miss out on new 2.2 content I won't miss out on the buggy state the game was inevitably gonna be in. I knew this was coming, I warned people of it. I just hope they don't treat RobTop too harshly and we manage to get a good compromise that keeps the level playing field of the new physics without jeopardising all 8 million old levels.

You can add Falling Up too, blue orb at the beginning of the drop sends you further than normal which makes hitting the others impossible.

Fun Fact: Gregory by cornfungi is a case where 2.2 actually nerfed the Level. In the 30% Ship Slope part, you originally had to hold so you don't get crushed by the slopes (or whatever happens there that kills you) but after 2.2, you can just simply let your ship go through it without dying, saving you 4 clicks lol

Yeah, it's interesting. People on both sides of the physics change debate exaggerate their experiences. But I agree, the way Rob released 2.2 physics was wrong.

some Digital Descent's parts became harder and more annoying because of the 2.2 changes: 1. Manix's part now have a way tighter dual wave due to D blocks being particularly buggy with slopes 2. 34% spider click is now random and a frame perfect basically due to slope physics change and the structure itself being buggy 3. Galvatron's part have bugged D block on mini wave at very end, u have to make an additional click 4. Krmal's tight wave gaps became much harder because of D blocks bug yet again. You have to actually pass an almost sakupen circles tight gap on your own there to not die 5. Hinds part got a buff with the 2 green orbs inside the structure (they are no longer buffer clicks, but a quite hard timings too) it all is not impossible, but still. A level of such difficulty shouldn't have a luck based spot in it that is occurred only because of game update

I noticed the same things. I decided to go for digital descent after 2.2 was released after dropping it earlier in 2.1 and Krmal’s bugs have been killing me ;-; especially the transition into the mini cube, super rough and unreasonably tight. Hope Viprin fixes it soon :3

A couple other extreme demons that are bugged are Chopstep (ball bug in the 80s) and Quaoar beginning transition doesn't work

Just so you all know, Black Blizzard is possible, you just have to jump before hitting the green orb after landing.

​@@Scoromi_It is, it's just stupidly hard now and kinda inconsistent too. You have to hold jump when getting to the green orb so it jumps and then quickly release and click again to trigger the green orb and with the right timing you can barely make it. It's really hard tho

Yeah also played nhelv and the ending is straight up impossible 😭heard from friends that many other parts didn’t work as well. Gonna also try different extremes and see if they work. Also rip sunset and sightless ☠️

i cant even practise layers which was the insane demon i wanted to try work on beating slowy since the first part is bugged since you cant slope jump and it pisses me off since alot of my layouts had alot of slope jumps and its too much work to fix them all

quite difficult to say. 2.1 levels are getting detected and do have some fixes already enabled, however there might be technical limitations with specifically changing physics, depending on if they are initialized on startup and are unchangable, like the samplerate for music.

​@@themilkcat6718 What if robtop added a button in the editor that lets you use the physics of 2.1 or use the physics of 2.2 that would be good and then creators of their 2.1 levels can switch the psyhics over idk if robtop would do that or make it where he can remotely fix every bugged level made before 2.2 to have the psychics back to normal but i dont think its maybe possible since if he changed the psychics that means he would have to make another update and somehow make it have 2 psychics engines 1 for 2.1 and one for 2.2 which would be probably hard to do idk if what i just said is maybe correct or true

There is an old 1.8 nine star level called "6 sided journey" that is currently bugged and impossible. In a ball part near the end of the level, there is a slope that launches you way too high, and you die to the spike ceiling. It is possible in practice mode if you click late to get onto the slope, and then place a checkpoint near the start of the steep slope. That causes you to die at first, but when you respawn the slope works properly again. Despite this, it seems completely impossible in normal mode.

0:14 the weird thing is that he did do that and it is on by default for all pre-2.2 levels (like you can copy windy landscape and see that the option is enabled but the slope is still bugged so it’s like a frame perfect now), but it doesn’t work properly for some reason.

Pretty much this exact same thing happen for the first Mario Maker when Nintendo made phantom jumps impossible. Surprised that RobTop Games didn't just make old levels run like they did in the past with new levels running differently.

the slope super jump in kingslayer also doesnt work anymore (around 65% i think). Instead of getting launched you just kinda do a normal jump as if it was a flat surface

The problem with this is that 2.2 HAS a legacy physics mode that is enabled by default, and if creators wanna use the new physics they have to click 3 gear icons with the editor to find them and then enable everything in those 2 pages, how ever, the game still calculated physics with 240tps unless you use physics bypass with MHv8 but I should note that physics bypass only changes the tick rate, not how the game calculates physics

The change did not make this impossible but an unknown hard demon "Center of Existence" by DaddePro has a bugged transition at 45% now thanks to 2.2, you have to time the five spike very early which made me drop the level altogether because it wasn't as fair to beat it as back in the last update

I know the beginning of Windy is bugged, but it's still possible. It's just close to frame perfect. I ran into a similar issue during the cube "diamond" section in Forsaken Neon, where it seemed like the last jump before the wave was impossible. Maybe I just suck, but idk.

imo i honestly think every level (including old ones) having the new physics is a good thing, mainly because a switch in physics from old level to new ones would be really annoying, to be fair this is already the case with the ship physics (and some other gamemodes) and some old bugs but i don't think it's ideal, i do think that old levels should be fixed (either by the creator or a mod) old levels are gonna still play weird so i encourage creators to try and improve them

7:04 actually the update made everything 60fps physics. The physics update rate (per second) was calculated as TPS × 4 (TPS is input frames in a second, not physics calculations in a second), TPS was equal to fps, 60×4 = 240 which is the global physics update rate in 2.2 meaning we have 60fps physics. TPS is still equal to framerate in 2.2 but the physics update rate is 240 globally. Because of this TPS does have a cap of 240 because physics update rate is 240. It's really nice having 240 physics update rate and 240 fps/TPS together. It feels so much better than 240 fps/TPS with 960 physics update rate. Mobile players still get improvement due to the input lag being reduced from 2 frames to 1 frame. There's still a lot though because of the forced V-sync (even on 120hz mobile devices the input lag is super noticable).

​​@@KaiwalaI found this information in the official GD Discord server, a reddit post, and also got told by a friend who said they found out from the demons list mods/server (don't fully recall). There's actually one thing I didn't realise and only just learnt about... wave isn't physics based, it's frame based. So going above 240 fps/TPS would make wave better but every other mode would play at 240 TPS due to 240 physics update rate. Really weird. Also my point about mobile input lag... yeah turns out 2.205 has reduced mobile input lag (at least for me) and I have no idea why/how. There's still some but it's been reduced a fair bit... Actually it seems to not be that input lag is necessarily less now, but it's way more consistent. Slight lag no longer throws off the input lag.

Your proposal is very intuitive and just good game design imo, the mario maker 2 devs would agree as thats about how they worked with their physics changes. I have no idea why it's a controversial position (at least on twitter it seems there are ride or die people for keeping levels broken for an indefinite time period)

Yeah the staricase in black blizzard felt a lot harder to me too so i dont think its placebo. Also the part were you hold in sunburn was random to me in 2.1 too (i used to play on 144hz) In fact thats how i died there. When i practiced it always worked and when i played in normal that happened and i died

You can add Digital Descent at 34% spider part, changing from 165 to 60fps managed to make it much better but still much worse than 2.11.

I got with the nlw sheet to find all extremes that are bugged or impossible on 2.2... there actually are less than I thought... my own extreme inanimate INSANITY is completely fine somehow too

Also Memory for dummies, the ball part is impossiblr because of the click where you stick to the ceiling. Adrenaline, the dual part from Soluble is very inconsistent, and the part from Krazy and r3ul has an almost frame perfect click instead of a buffer. That's just some of the bugs I've spotted...

That statement is rather reductive, considering many levels that aren't dependent on that kind of gimmick are still broken. Take for instance Windy Landscape or even Sedulous or Aleph 0 or HBFS whose bugs are just one off slopes that behave differently yet superbuff their respective levels due to the change.

See, I get that people who make/play extreme demons don't like this change. But I, someone who plays 5-7* levels religiously, really appreciate some of the new changes. Ship gamemode is finally fun, even on mobile

I'd like to stress that the ship gamemode change that you are feeling is completely unrelated to these bugs. The 240tps ship change bugfixed a lot of levels that only worked on 60fps before, so the 2 things aren't mutually exclusive. We could have fixed slope physics and the good ship gameplay standardised across all platforms, which is frankly one of my favourite parts of 2.2. Finally mobile players now know what it's like to play 240fps ship.

Some bugs i found is around 40% of triple six theres an imposible click cause the slope doesnt push you high enough and a lot of levels have broken rotation centers (e.j.: sunshine by unzor)

Another comment letting people know that slope jumps are still possible, their just frame perfect now thanks to the new physics, if you play Windy Landscape and do a jump right as you hit the very top of the slope, you can actually make that jump

4:37 it seemed to be dependent on the time you jumped into that block. My best guess is depending on the timing you jump in there affects whether you have the position on the block to jump vs the positions you bonk your head and don't land on the block making you fall

I spent like 25K attempts on black blizzard before the update, got 56%, did drop to 100%, and I think maybe even a better run to 100%, and it would have been a new hardest (jump from blade of justice, both on 75fps). This saved me a lot of time...

The green orb click is actually possible! You need to buffer the jumps before it so your cube jumps off the floor inside the green orb (Similar to how you buffer that one yellow orb at the beginning of Black Blizzard) and then right before you jump into the spikes you then click the green orb. It's really weird but doable. There's another bug at the drop where your UFO doesn't go high enough after a slope, but I found double clicking there does the job.

I was playing deadlocked on 2.201 because pirac- testing. If you get to the ship after the robot you can't get past the teleport portal because you always hit the hotbox infront of it.

at 3:48 I can almost definitely say that it's because of where you jump into the gap, since you'll hit the peak of your jump and start descending later at some points and the descent starting closer to the right probably leads to you being unable to land on the edge and jump up

honestly this was just going to like be the tradeoff either way. yeah its tragic that some levels are going to be forever broken now but like keeping the legacy physics in was going to defeat the point of patching the fps bug and all those other bugs. like i think the only other viable option was for robtop to just not patch them

Only thing I don't like is the new slope physics. Some aspects needed to be patched but, the whole turning a hold into a super late timing feels less intuitive and breaks the majority of simpler levels. I plan on making a follow-up video covering all the levels people have commented here and seeing just how widespread this issue is.

IIRC the game even keeps track of the update the level is published, so this is possible to do without any actions from players or creators. just a simple if level.update

pretty sure robtop just straight up deleted the old physics code without a trace, IIRC he wasn't using any of version control systems.

Yeah the only buggy part of old slopes was the snapping to the top of them in some instances like Sonic Wave and Bloodbath. Holding on a slope to gain extra height made intuitive sense, and now that is relegated to timing a precise input at the very end of the slope instead which just feels awful and confusing to new players.

​@@Kaiwalaslopes are so much more buggy than anyone would think even now. If when upside down you fall into a precise position on a slide that is facing upwards you die. You just straight die, this worked 2.1 and still does 2.2. You used to be able to, if you hit that position with coyote frames from switching gravity, go straight through the slope. Don't know if that's still possible but it definitely kills you now. Oh and slope clips are incredibly easy to do even now. These aren't things you would regularly encounter in a level though, with the only exception I know of being gardening map, which at a ship part at around 60-70% there is a swag route you can take that involves slope clips.

I came back to the game for 2.2 and now I can't beat a bunch of the autos. Some of them have workarounds or secret ways, but some are just impossible. Nightfall, Autosonic, First of the Year, are some Medium length ones I encountered. There's definitely a bunch more. Edit: just found the form, will be reporting all the levels I find. Hopefully they get fixed.

A trigger orb in snowfall fiesta got broken. The update somehow messed up the values of the trigger and the dual is now impossible

i found out that on limbo, the ball part on 71% is impossible to pass once you go up to the blue pad and back down to the second blue pad, then buffering the green orb and swinging to the ground, then going up, but even with buffer inputs, the ball doesn't go down fast enough to avoid the spike at the end of the ceiling

(EDIT) Sunset Sandstorm has been bugfixed, Sonic Wave has been bugfixed, Aleph 0 is actually doable, Windy Landscape is also doable just very precise timing, and even Black Blizzard is (apparently?) doable just really really hard. This video has just got hit by the algorithm and I am getting a lot of comments saying I forgot levels. Most of those levels I either didn't know about, or didn't check because I released this video only a few hours after 2.2 released. If you have any levels you know of that got affected please send them to this form forms.gle/gREg8PuuykQEwETm7 for the time being so the mod team for GD can work on fixing levels. At the rate that this whole thing is going down, I believe we're gonna see a hotfix related to these slope changes and green orb changes at some point either with 2.205 or onwards. Sunset Sandstorm has been patched, and I've gotten back to grinding it like before. Aleph 0 isn't actually impossible, you just need to let go very precisely before the slope that sends you into that yellow portal THEN start holding. Black Blizzard 19% still feels impossible but I did get a comment saying Black Blizzard feels easier now? Also I didn't cover it in my video but Windy Landscape's first slope is a precise timing now. That's probably the most famous example of the physics change.

I wanted to beat Chopstep in 2.2 because I could increase my fps, but there is 1 impossible click and a harder one because of the new physics. I hope Rob will give old levels there physics back and like you said make it so new and updated old levels can’t have old physics anymore Edit : ima report the bugs to the doc

Pretty sure the ~87% robot jump in Invader by The Goola is impossible due to it being a late slope hold click, which slope hold clicks are near impossible as is, but the one I'm talking about requires full robot jump force at the very end of a steep slope, which isn't possible due to new slope physics.

Cataclysm 48% orb before the top of the slope is a MUCH harder timing than it was. I passed it almost always consistently pre-update, but now it's like a 1/10, leading me to drop the level entirely. It was going to be my first extreme, but that click is way too inconsistent and has killed all my good runs

Subversive is now near impossible because the click at 10% where you get boosted by a yellow pad into a platform and switch gravity to roll on the platform doesn’t work anymore. This makes me sad, because Subversive was the only extreme demon that I could feasibly beat prior to 2.2.

Hurricane and Tornado are busted with slopes as well. A little concerned Bianox might not fix them with how angry he got with the community on Twitter/X a month prior to 2.2s release.

​@@newmanhiding2314 People keep telling Rob to hire a dev team like it would fix these issues. In reality, Rob could fix the problem quite quickly and I'm concerned that he hasn't bothered yet. His code is not the best, is over a decade old and very personalised to him. Rob's said that hiring a dev team would be difficult because developing for GD has a very specific workflow that only he knows, and training new developers to work with it would take an immense amount of time, but also trust. Who can he trust with not breaking the millions of levels in the game? yeah I know that's ironic considering the video title but let's be real - Its a miracle that 2.2 physics is this compatible with 2.1 levels. While many levels are broken, plenty more are actually better now and some I can even run on full detail now with 0 lag spikes. That's genuinely impressive, and we shouldn't lose sight of that. tl;dr it's gonna take years to train a dev team that can reasonably make an impact on the game and they're gonna need to be heavily monitored by RobTop as only he knows many of the weird quirks of the game. I do think he should get one, but I don't think now is the right time for it.

And windy landscape. The beginning is literally a frame perfect it's like an extreme now. Idk if the whole level is possible because I haven't gotten past the frame perfect but I think it's impossible.

The first click is very doable, I've done it many times. Rest of the level is unaffected. Doesn't warrant bumping up to Extreme, but the click does need to be fixed.

Black Blizzard's staircase isn't broken, it's fixed. On 360 FPS physics Cube's double jump is smaller than on 60 FPS physics, that's why in 2.1 the staircase is easier.

@@Kaiwala as one more note, reverie is actually really consistent regardless of what many people say. If you take time to learn strats and optimize clicking as few times as possible/how to avoid dying in the awkward parts, you can get to helpegasus almost every 5 attempts

Volume by metalface221 is one you can add aswell, after the first ball part you transition into a ship, and the invisible slope that you land on sends you up to high, but i know how to fix it: select the invisible slope that you land on, move down not with the arrow that moves a full block, and mot the arrow that moves it down half a block, but the the arrow that moves it down just alittle bit if you know what i mean, and just move it down once and your done, volume is now possible

the sunburn rng thing prolly depends on where u jump from. i imagine this might be caused by the player jumping every 2 frames instead of every 1 frame there like in 2.1? i dont know though

Hurricane is bugged as well. At 22% you don't carry your momentum through the cube portal anymore, so you fall short of the blue pad and die. (Going in at the top of the portal doesn't help either)

I thought I was crazy when I tried Windy Landscape again, already beat it but wanted to replay it because it’s a good level, but the first slope jump feels near impossible right now, my muscle memory with the level just felt inadequate and now I have a reason why

I honestly like the new physics. The slope changes feel unnecessary though, holding on a slope to be sent higher always made intuitive sense to me and removing it is the biggest reason why so many levels are now impossible or superbuffed now.
