Fantastic! Well done. I am almost 85, did my second entry into the Spring Sprints this morning, may do a third on Sunday. Today 3-45.1 a split of 1-52.5. Strategy, 10/12 fast strokes, then settle back onto the race pace until last 250, then go for it. Last year exactly the same times, but 2018 a 3.37.8 @ 1-48.9 My weakest muscle now is the mind!
Also, I figured I'd do my first 1k attempt on the 4th and that would give me a second shot on the 7th or 8th in case I wanted to try for a better time.
Similar to what I talked about about deadlifts and feeling stronger today than at Paris. Means instead of rating high to keep speed because I was fit enough but not strong enough, I could rate slightly lower and power along. Also, like I also said, this was my first rate piece really since Paris so would expect to be higher if I actually prepped for it! #yamsquad
The pain you were in after your piece looked just like myself after my 1k two days ago, but the results were not that equal 😆great stuff Cameron, you are leading so far, but there might be a couple throwing down times a couple seconds faster, we will see!
Idk if this means anything but your 1k to 2k ratio of of 2:45 to 5:50 is around .47 which is the exact same as my ratio (albeit mine is much slower). I wonder if that's a coincidence or if its common
@@CameronBuchan I think Pauls law states, for ever time your time/distance doubles your splits increases by 5sec. newSplit = split + (5 * log2(distance_to_predit_for / known_distance)) in other words 1:27.5 = 1:22.5 + (5 * log2(2000m / 1000m))
Great row - just 6 seconds off the world record! Have you thought about doing a vlog with Heidi Richards? A member of your new club who won a silver medal in Paris at the World Indoors who only took the sport up in 2016!!! Talk about inspirational. And she loves dogs!
Nice Work Cam. My favorite part was that grimace of pain when it was over. I can identify with it. I got a PB for the 1k yesterday with 3:03.6 I’m 44 and just started training my rowing in November with Dark Horse Rowing. Amazing to me how three minutes of work can leave me so wiped out for the rest of the day.
Amazing how you can keep that stroke rate at your height. I'm a hair above 5'11 and my previous 1k was at a 36spm. My last 2k was at 32spm but I'm really trying to get that to above 35spm. When I'm doing for example rate 31 the rate feels a lot like faster than it actually is, like how your rate 37/38 looks, but when I look back on my recordings it's actually super slow in comparison 😂.
What amazes me is your ability to accelerate. I am a fairly strong fella and identify as a sprinter on the erg, but am still amazed by the absurd accelaration you can produce!
Bro i just took a 2k today and finally broke 8 minutes. Im so happy :D. Keep in mind Im 14 lmao. These videos inspire me so much to keep trying to get better. Thankyou
I had to smile at how torched you were at the end; it was exactly how I felt at the end of my workout yesterday, on my back on the floor, chest heaving. It was the closest I've ever been to thinking 'I'm going to die.' LOL Well done, you.
Here's a workout for you (good for 2k prep)...... 6X1k rate 28 with 5 mins rest in between, 3 splits slower than target 2k pace. A nasty but really good workout to sting the legs
Cam, I also noticed you were powering off your heels, as in dead lifting if you will. Also not pulling your toes up on the return. I believe it is because you are now engaging your glutes more. So, all your new hard leg work for bringing those big muscles into play is working here, and that bigger power results, result in a lower stroke rate as well. IMHO Great work!
Fab time! Congrats bro! Did the virtual rowing indoor sprints as well for the first time, I got 4.11.1 at average stroke rate of 29 which I was happy about! I've been rowing for a few months now, (since October!) It's mainly been indoor training cause of the weather. I would like to get my time below 4 at some stage! Any tips?
Love watching your videos Cam! I look and think "that's what youth, proper training and nutrition and long levers can do! 💪👊😁. I tried a rower for the first time in Oct 18 when I joined cross fit as part of my weight loss plan (19st down to 15.5st so far 😁).... I'm a 5ft 10 inch 51 year old and I did 3.11.5 in this online 1k competition.... pretty pleased with that... but I guess I could have tried harder as I didn't puke lol. Keep up the good work! Steve
Fantastic effort Cam, great to see you trying these and seemingly having fun doing it! I did my 1k on Thursday and went 4 seconds quicker than my previous best, still 30 seconds behind you though. Keep up the good work. 👍
Congratulations on your fine time. Implementation was perfect with a quick start by using the free atp fuel that already in the muscles. And that you continued to push with a good "stroke/power" rate race through. Superb you did an optimal race to get out an maximum effort to a time trial
What time of day do you feel that you perform your best? Myself I like morning workouts - by the afternoon I feel too sluggish and when evening arrives I'm beat.
Great effort! Did the 1k yesterday, managed to do a 3:06.0. Mixed feelings as I was aiming for 3:05.0 or quicker. I'm pretty much the same size as you and pretty much all I'm doing is erging or OTW rowing. Definitely have to start focusing on lifting now
CB, That was great, the last 150m looked very tough. Great insight to what an elite rower goes through. Awesome time. Your time is #1 right now as of 11:30am Saturday. Hope to go sub 3:12 myself today/tomorrow.
That is absolutely massive...and more impressive given it was with neither a plan, nor power-assisted through Breaded Egg Toast. Best erg you've posted so far!
u for sure motivated me to focus more at sprinting, the main focus of our sculling four is 5k races. but i just love to produce some big watts/splits, and improve on it also
@@ilanpi not according to the training program!! 😂 Might be able to knock a second or two off but realistically it's not my focus just now! Great fun for today though
Already told you, but well done again!!! Super inspiring, Cameron! I look up to you and your hard work a lot. You're setting a great example for past, current, and future rowers. You're truly contributing to the global rowing community 🙏
Well done, great result!! For myself, I did many things different (0545, almost no warm up, no food), but ended up with similar feelings (good splits at the start, lower score than anticipated, the feeling of ‘uh-oh’ at 500). Walked away with 5 seconds off my practice piece from last weekend, so safe to say I am very happy this morning!
Hi Cameron, just completed the World indoor Virtual 1000m sprint. I dont think it was a sprint but complete hell. I achieved a time of 3.35.1 at a split of 1.47. I was gasping for breath. Any tips to improve my score and breath!!!!!
Great job Richard! Tips wise, sometimes it can be a battle of getting enough oxygen in so making sure you aren't holding your breath at any point! Other than that, practice and training your weaknesses will help!
Your 2:45.6 super fast. In fact on Concept 2 site rankings for each year, yours is the fastest by someone in GB (who choose to log their times) of any age since Feb 2006 and 2nd fastest (by 0.4 sec). I know GB team probably don't bother (or are allowed) to rank their times, but you might want to hit the 'rank' button in your Concept 2 1k piece and at least see yourself as #1 ranked time in the UK!
So many variables to consider here. Height, weight, previous experience all play a part. I've seen people go sub 3 minutes on their first 1k, I've also seen people struggle to go under 3:45. The time also doesn't automatically mean you'll struggle at the end. Pushing your max is generally when that will happen, and potentially cause you to "curl up".
What level resistance is the most optimal for the 1KM? We have been doing this challenge at my fire department for the last few weeks and I’m looking to get a better tactic on it
Well done! I have worked with a few people around your age and experience. Hopefully can break 7 minutes! Could sign up to the Yamsqaud training program to help you get there!
What a cracking effort! Huge! Well done Sir. 👏🏻 My goal for the sprints was to hit a 3:11 and I wound up sneaking in just under that with a 3:10.1 @ 1:35.0 ... at the expense of the most pain I’ve ever felt on the erg outside of a 2k. This was my first go at a 1k and it is a nasty distance!
