I just wanted to make a quick update on the Camaro 2.8 duramax swap. I'm looking for compatible transmission parts so I can get the motor set into the chassis. If you have any questions please drop a comment below.

Thanks Rob. Once I get this transmission figured out I'll get the whole thing set in the car and start working on the motor. More to come.

Confirmed that the 6L45/50 bellhousing does NOT fit the 6L80/90 case. One has 8 bolts and the other has 9. Also, the bellhousing I purchased is for a C7 Corvette and not a C6. The C6 is no longer in production though. Looks like I'll have to track down a reman unit.

This is very exciting. I am working on a LWM swap on my 2008 Hummer H2. I purchased a 6l90 from a 2012 Silverado. This'll give me the option of 4 high/low and 2wd. You are giving me so much hope. any update on the bellhousing issue. I saw in the earlier comment that the 6l50 doesn't fit. Good luck and keep up the great job!

@@breoll86 I actually purchased the same housing, and I am working them to see what can actually work. The housing was $125. Retrofitting the mounts from the chevy express van. They are very close. Just some clearance issues.

I know you’re not going the manual route, but would have been interesting to see how the T56 lined up to that cadi QuickTime bell housing.. and if a manual could even be possible.

It's possible. And I did decide to go with the t56. Its a long road to get there but I'm still making progress.

Has anyone confirmed that the Jeep VM Motori 2.8 block is the same on the backend? Jeep put the NV3550 behind the 2.8 VM in some markets. Wonder if the bellhousing plate would work...

I don't have any personal experience with the Jeep stuff, but I hear that its very different. I do know that you can put a T56 or TR6060 behind a 2.8 if you are looking for a manual. The Cadillac V6 comes with a bellhousing that will bolt the Tremec to the 2.8. I actually have one if you're looking for it. The problem is the flywheel. The crankshaft bolt pattern is unique to these motors. But very close to the V6. There is a company out there that makes a transfer case adapter for the Tremec as well, if you're looking to use 4wd.

@@ClinkenbeardStrong Sorry, I have not. I do know that it does NOT match the V6 or V8 crank pattern. It is very close to the V6 size (not exactly the same) but the ring gear is a different size too (you may be able to use a V6 starter though). I have been away from home for a while now and haven't had the opportunity to make any progress on the project. Hense the lack of videos lately. I will get back to it as soon as I return.

The Chevy Express/GMC Savana that got the 2.8L Duramax had the 8L90 trans. Also the vans have a different FEAD with power steering pump mount...and the vans also have higher output alternators. Did you get that engine from Cleveland Power & Performance? I couldn't see the yellow tag on the engine in your video clearly but it looked like a CPAP tag. I'm curious what your plans are for ECM tuning and trans control??? I'm working on a 2.8L swap now and have collected a ton of info. Exciting to see someone else working on one of these that's not just another Colorado.

I have considered the 8L90 swap but in my opinion that trans has some reliability issues. Plus, the TCU would be challenging. The 6l90 is cheaper, has more support, and uses the same T43 TCU as the stock 6L50. But I actually have had a new GM H.O. alternator for a while now. It's still in the box. I will be putting it into my truck and swapping the low amp unit into the car. This engine did come from CPAP, and it will be getting a full rebuild. But for engine control I plan on using the E98 to start with, only because I'm familiar with the tuning and it won't take much to get it started. Once the stock ECU becomes a limitation I'll upgrade.

@@breoll86 I have the same feeling about the 8L90 but it's another option with the goofy bellhousing of the 2.8L. If you got that from CPAP, that engine was supposed to be for my turn-key pallet. Turned out to have too much damage to get running (cheaply). It took months for them to find a rig to part out for me then when they found that one, it was damaged. Ended up waiting a total of 9 months for everything. Not any knock on CPAP...just difficult to find good 2.8L donors. If I had it to do over again, I would have sourced an engine from the van since I'm now switching out virtually everything up front for the van FEAD. I have TONS of parts from the turn-key pallet that I'm not going to need (2016 Colorado). If you have anything specific that you might want, let me know. I'd like to speak offline about tuning files.

@@mgmetalworks CPAP made it clear that this engine would require a rebuild. Not knocking them at all. With the power goals I have in mind a rebuild is required anyway. Good used long blocks are still expensive. And to be honest, that's not what I was looking for. I just need a good core. The only accessory I plan on running is the alternator though. A simple bracket should be easy enough make just for that. As for tuning files, I'm not an expert by any means. I don't recommend using my numbers for anything. I just wanted to show people that its not hard to make small changes yourself. And the knowledge gained is worth the time invested.

@@breoll86 I have a tuned ECM for a swap application already but the file is locked. I’m just looking for an editable file without the emissions stuff that I can learn with on my spare ECM.

@@mgmetalworks Unfortunately I don't have any delete files. You should be able to read your spare ECM though. A delete file should look the same as a non delete file, because there is no tuning or tables for the DPF/SCR. It just gets turned off with a custom OS I believe. But I've never seen one and cant really provide much incite. Not sure you'll get anyone to share that info to be honest. lol

If the trans bolt pattern for the 2.8 is the same as the high feature V6 family then the crank bolt pattern may be the same, it is also an 8 bolt on the V6's

Unfortunately I have found out that it is not the same. I have purchased quite a few flexplates and I have acquired a nice collection now. But I have yet to find one that matches. A custom flexplate would not be difficult to make though. Especially if you already have the machined ring gear off of a good core.

No. But it's completely possible for someone who has the need and finances to complete the install. Unfortunately I have neither one of those at the moment.
