Thank you so much for sharing as I was about to request for a video (preventive) for non-seniors on the topic of balance and routine so that when they get old, balance issues are minimised.
Sir please Make a video on How to Heal Rib Muscle tear Faster and Better so it never hurts again.. my mom had and accident and now She can't Get Up from bed because of The pain. Please Sir😭.
I was a fairly active person until I was 75. I was tap dancing for 11 years and our multi generational group competed in Canada and internationally! I felt great! But then something slowly happened and my muscles got progressively weaker. I wasn’t exercising nearly as much and when you don’t use your muscles, they simply get weaker and weaker! I would say that it is SARCOPENIA, which means “muscle wasting”. I never thought this would happen to me! I then needed right hip replacement which really prevented me from exercising which meant more muscle loss! I turned 80 a few months ago and had my hip replaced, and have found that your videos are so good! I have been to physiotherapists but get more help from your videos! I can watch them over and over again, and you have exercises for every problem, and I love the way you present them. Most importantly, you have some excellent videos on BALANCE! I cannot walk without a cane because I will lose my balance, and then I saw the one you did with trekking poles. Great video! I had bought some at Costco but really didn’t know how to use them, or the right height they should be. You explained it all. So now I am going to start using them as well as my cane, along with all your “balance advice.” Love you guys!!!
Many senior centers have free or low cost balance and fall prevention classes. I recently finished a course call “Matter of Balance” through my local senior center and the class featured the exercises that you just showed and extra information on overcoming fear of falling, adopting assertive tactics and replacing negative thoughts with positive ones regarding issues of balance and exercise. Love you guys! ❤
It's funny how much of these sort of movements I find in tai chi. I practice a few styles but shibashi does some toe extensions and curls, Yang style has the side stepping (wave hands like clouds) and such like. I recommend tai chi to anyone who's interested but the more exercises I see, the more I see how tai chi covers so much of them, an easy way to get in some stretches during the day in a way that doesn't necessarily feel like making time for exercise :)
Im 73 and walk 3 or 4 miles a day 3 times a week.I fell on a walking trail where the cement was lifted by tree roots.I live in a 55+ community(Sun City) and if i report it they will pull out the tree.I dont want that too happen.I caught my fall with my hands...nothing broke but my fingers felt sprained for a week and a bit purple.
That’s pretty selfish and irresponsible. If you know that there is a tree root that could cause someone else to fall, then you really should report it. Not always will they tear down the tree. Where I live, they put in a short railing to hold onto as removing the tree was not possible. In other instances, they may even move the path!
I’m in an over 55 community, too. It took over 6 months for the association to fix the uneven sidewalk where my tennis shoe got caught. I was walking home from line dancing and I’m pretty active. Others had fallen in that area, too, but nothing was done until I was vocal. Always report these things….I broke my wrist. A hip, shoulder, arm, etc, would have been worse!
Thank you Brad for being clear and straight to the point and answering questions without wasting time. I really enjoy even though English is my second language. I have benefited a lot from the information you share.
I am working with my 98 ye old aunt who is presently at a nursing home after a stroke and breaking her leg. Its been 2 months since the leg break. So these exercises seem to be just what she needs. Thanks.
I teach balance and chair yoga senior fitness classes at a local senior center, many of these videos posted on my channel. Most of these centers have great has fitness classes that are extremely cheap. Our center just started to allow silver sneakers or renew active as a membership where you can essentially go to the gym for free (from the government assisted programs) assuming your insurance covers it. Something to look into for your local area!
After bilateral Mitchell’s bunionectomy, I was unable to put one foot directly in front of the other. I walked like Frankenstein! I was fortunate to be accepted into a specialized physiotherapy group to achieve a proper gait. As I went through the 6 week program I couldn’t but think how many falls could be prevented if the elderly had such help available. Thanks guys. You’re videos are so helpful.
😅I just heard about Bob than saw the update but couldn’t find how to comment so came back here to to comment. In the first place Bob i Dont see a problem when you talk 😊you just sound like you’re thinking very hard for the right words to convey your advice to us in a way we non- therapists can understand and follow. Unless talking a lot is exhausting and/or painful to you any videos you feel like making would be welcome by all I’m sure. You and Brad will always be in my heart and prayers just like my family are. GOD Bless
Watched this balance video today and it’s so helpful. Seniors just aren’t aware of what their bodies are doing. You nailed it. Thank you. Also wondering how Bob is doing. Hope he’s doing well.
QUESTION - I just turned 77 and am in good to excellent physical heath about 51/2 months ago broke my right leg about 2 or 3 inches below the hip joint and had a titanium rod inserted. I think I have recovered well and can do most things that i could before. The problem is that now my right leg seems much stronger than my left, both visually and functionally, especially in regard to my balance. If I keep doing exercises such as these, will my left leg eventually catch up to my right? Should I be doing more reps on the left side than the right to help the process along? I've been relying on you and your videos for the last several years and credit your team often when ask how I stay so fit for my age. I thank you both Bob and Brad for that and now Mike.
Great video as always guys! These are great exercises. Though I've been a coach for decades and still active in martial arts, i'm getting older and the body isn't what it use to be. My parents ask for advice to stay fluid, this is great for getting a different perspective to help them too. Thank you!!
we don't have anything specific for diabetic neuropathy, but I have added this to our to do list. Here is a link to our neuropathy videos though: www.youtube.com/@BobandBrad/search?query=neuropathy
I told my Mom: “that is why the things are called; ‘throw rugs’!” She did not ever fall; however, a sliding door in a store knocked her down and broke her femur just below her hip ( her first and only broken bone! ) A pin was placed in the appropriate spot and after a month of PT at home off she went back to running her antique store and all things within her view❤!
Dear Bob, just read up on have wt I have ATAxia also I have POLYNUROPOTHY ANd when I fall I can no longer get up. I hurt my knees as a result of falling and I’m seeing my ORTHOPEDIC DOCTOR for it. Also I’m on oxygen. Therefore I’m a disabled person. But I’m also a fighter at 73
So good! Thank you! I got up and did the sideways ones right away hanging in to a counter and wow, I was shocked how little I lift my feet. Gotta make a new brain divot so it remembers to lift them. You’re the best!
I fell and fractured my left femur and had a titanium replacement 🙃 It was in the same leg 🦵 I had polio in that shortened it an inch Net result is that now my legs are the same length! My right leg is having issues adjusting and your videos are awesome! I am doing what I did in physical therapy (aka Pain and Torture. ) I told me therapist I would use you and she likes you!
Love you guys . mikes has shrill voice do you have any audio help.?move his mike away from his mouth. I am not a audio person just trying to help. Sharon Tucker
Hi from the UK. Brad's comment at 7:36 cracked me up...." ...a big thing that makes falls"!😅😅😅. Makes sense, somewhat! Question. Can anyone explain why after having broken my ankle in 3 places in 2017, I STILL suffer what I can only explain as a painful jabbing from the metal plate work whenever I lay the ankle on its outside edge? It really hurts and is extremely uncomfortable. Any ideas please? Thank you
Sir please Make a video on How to Heal Rib Muscle tear Faster and Better so it never hurts again.. my mom had and accident and now She can't Get Up from bed because of The pain. Please Sir😭.
I walk briskly for 30 minutes or more everyday without issues except for occasional knee pain. I do suffer bad leg cramps which is how I found your chanel. I should do more exercises and am watching all of your videos now. Any advice related to exercising with very flat feet?
I suffer from bad knees resulting in the need for knee replacement. To complicate things more is that I have suffered from two Ischemic strokes that has left me with paralysis on my left side. Can this video help me???
My ankles are so painful. I had an ultrasound on them and my tendons are super inflamed. One is 2.36 and the other is 2.38. The pain keeps me from walking properly.
I have, more than once, fallen and not been able to regain my feet. For 2 days this last time. My muscles turn to jelly. I Lay on the floor for most of two days The women could not get me up even onto the bed I was next to. I f9und a word for this but I can not now find it. Astart.
For going down a steeper than normal stairs ( which also has a shorter front to back) I have learned to bump my heel into the upright board at my heel for each step before putting down my weight on that step, that way I know my balance is actually over the flat of the step and not on the edge where my toes can tilt down triggering a fall.
Somewhere a video on tight tfl and how it affects balance. Seems weak g. Medius contributes as well. Someone pushed a person before and after loosening the tfl and a big dif but I'm not an expert
My friend fell while sitting at work, she was moving her office paperwork and fell while sitting which broke her hip, she's now been diagnosed with osteoporosis! She's doing well but her hump has progressed!
We are very sorry to hear that! Here is a link to a bunch of videos that might be helpful for her if she wants to check them out: www.youtube.com/@BobandBrad/search?query=osteporosis
I have sent your videos to all . Thank you for what you do for us and have videos to help appreciate you so much I been working with you since 19 and 20 so keep it up.
Thank you so much wonderful guys. In the year of 20 eleven I fell on the floor too much I wish that I had known those things to do we elderly really need to know. Now as a hair stylist don't wear caps. It will cause your hair to come out in the crown area. Wear them if you need to as less as possible
Brad - PLEASE HAVE MIKE GO TO A SHEECH THERAPIST OR SOMEONE WHO COULD HELP HIM LOWER HIS VOICE! ALSO. He needs to smile because he has such a DEADPAN look. If I now want to watch your exercise videos, I now have to click the CC button!!!
